Compus Eastern got its fifth national sorority February

Tolk Kappa Delta -national sorority. The members of Th
Pi, whose chapter house is located at 921 Sixth St.,
came charter pledges of the national group. The local
ority completed the requirements of remaining on ca
pus one year before becoming a national affiliate.

Construction of a name sign for Eastern was appr
in February by the Teachers College Board. The s
which will be located in front of Old Main, will mea
3 feet by 31hfeet. It will be placed in front of the ca
flagpole, facing north toward Sixth St. Eight-inch le
will spell out "Eastern Illinois University," with "Fo
ed in 1895" in three-inch letters. The sign will set
two polished cement posts, about five feet above gro
level. It will match other Eastern building signs in
or-black and natural aluminum.

A photo-mural of Napoleon, Eastern's renowned canine

mascot from 1946 to 1959, will hang in the east lounge

of the University Union. The mural, which measures 3
feet by 26 inches, was donated by a local clothing store.

Napoleon became a campus "fixture" in 1946 when he
came out of nowhere to make Eastern his home territory.

He died in the spring of 1960 and was buried near the
campus flower garden about halfway between Old Main
and the University Union.

One hundred seven students, or 2.9 per cent of the total

full-time university enrollment, were dropped at the end

of the winter quarter. Percentagewise, this figure is the

lowest for a winter quarter since 1957-58, when the per-

centage was 2.5. Another 139 students were placed on

probation, with an additional 151 placed on final proba-

tion. Together, these students represent 8 per cent of the

total enrollment. The comparable figure for students on

probation last year was 7.7 per cent. Two years ago, it

was 7.2 per cent. ·

Eastern's campus radio station, WELH, is now broad-
casting three hours each evening, Sunday through

Thursday. Wired so as to be received only in campus res-
idence halls, the station primarily broadcasts music.
New programs are being developed, and the student per-
sonnel operating the station hope to provide information
about campus activities, sports coverage, and interviews
in the future.

Thirty-seven members of the Eastern faculty have been
promoted by action of the Teachers College Board. The
nine associate professors promoted to the rank of full
professors are Weldon N. Baker, chemistry; Alphonso
J. DiPietro, mathematics; Leonard Durham, zoology;
Dorothy M. Hart, physical education for women ; Martin
M. Miess, foreign languages; Louise Murray, Laboratory
School; Harlan Riebe, health education; George Rommel,
English; and Wayne Thurman, speech.
