decade of llve theatre for central I l l i n o ~ s
audiences. Long before Mr. Little opened the I
Grand Theatre back in 1957, he hoped and
planned that someday he would have a theatre . i
where musicals and plays could be presented.
H e got his first job ln professional theatre Meet Paul, the friendly operator at

Mr. Little decided to lease the movie house ARCOLA, ILLINOIS
i n his native Sullivan. Since the opening of
Brigadoon on July 3, 1957, Mr. Little has pre- Antiques difplayed in
sented 100 major productions-both plays and charming old barn atmosphere.
musicals-featuring many outstandin stars and
supporting casts from Broadway, ~ o l f y w o o d ,T V
and Opera. The first season ran nine weeks and
nad an attendance of 8,000. The Little Theatre-
On The Square was open for twenty-five weeks
. . .last year and had an attendance of 80.000
a most gratifying increase! I n addition to his
productions in Sullivan. Mr. Little managed
the Piccolo Playhouse in Joliet and has had
touring productions that have played theatres
i n Michigan. Ohio and the Chicago area. Mr.
Little is often asked to open and manage
other theatres in the midwest, but his devotion
is to The Little Theatre-On The Square and
i t s loyal audiences. Mr. Little works
around booking outstandln stars such as
Allyson, John Carradine, S e t e r Palmer, Rose-
mary Prinz, Dennis Weaver, Robert Reed, John
Payne, Margaret O'Brien Julia Meade Pat
O'Brien, Linda Darnell. ~ a r i eWilson, ' ~ d d i e
Bracken, Joe E. Brown, Marjorie Lord, Margar-
et Truman, Edward Everett Horton, Annamary
Dickey, Jack Haskell, Margaret Hamilton and
Cesar Romero.
Mr. Little has directed many of the pro-
ductions, designed and built the scenery, and
h a s appeared in many of the shows. Last season,
in addltion to supervising all the productions,
he ap eared a s Mr Snow in Carousel, Joe Tay-

Guy met his wife, Jerili, when they were
both studying theatre at the University of Mi-
aml. They have been married thirteen years and
have .two children, Vanessa age eleven, and
Sean, a e five. Both childre; have been active
in the fullivan productions.
The operation of a star theatre for ten years
in a town with a population of less than 4,000
has been called "the miracle of Sullivan" by
theatre historians. Guy S. Little, Jr. gratefully
salutes the faithful central Illinois audiences
who have patronized The Little Theatre-On
*The Square since 1957.
