About the Book

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Davao
Region recognizes the role of the youth in this digital era.
According to Republic Act no. 8044 also known as the “Youth in the Nation
-Building Act”, the youth comprises the considerable sector of the population
from age fifteen (15) to thirty (30) years. Today, they are the social media
natives and leading influencers.
This Environmental Activity Book: Ang Kinaiyahan, a Visayan word for
Nature, aims to educate students and the youth about the agency’s mandate
and stress to them of their role in our society and environment. It also aims
to capacitate them to become the next environmental warriors, who are not
only knowledgeable but also responsible in terms of environmental
protection, preservation and management.
Ang Kinaiyahan features a word search, word puzzle, maze and coloring
activities that highlight forestry, biodiversity, solid waste management and
mining.

Forest Management Bureau (FMB)

FMB provides technical guidance to the central and field offices for the
effective protection, development, and conservation of forestlands and
watersheds. Through the Technical Services, FMB has implemented
programs and projects such as the Enhanced National Greening
Program (eNGP); Community-Based Forest Management Program;
Davao River Basin and Watershed Development Project; Forest
Boundary and Delineation; Soil Conservation and Watershed
Management; and Forest Protection and Law Enforcement in Region
11, these programs are being implemented within the five (5)
provinces: Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Compostela Valley, Davao
Oriental and Davao Occidental.

Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB)

DENR’s Biodiversity Management Bureau aims to conserve and
sustainably manage the country’s biodiversity by strengthening the
implementation of National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS)
and fostering other effective area-based conservation measures;
promote biodiversity-friendly livelihoods; and mainstreaming across all
sectors of government and society. In Region 11, there are 11
Protected Areas namely Mt. Apo Natural Park, Baganga Protected
Landscape/Seascape, Mabini Protected Landscape/Seascape, Mainit
Hot Springs Protected Landscape, Samal Island Protected Landscape/
Seascape, Malagos Protected Landscape, Pujada Protected Landscape/
Seascape, and Mt. Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary.

Environmental Management Bureau (EMB)

The Bureau ensures to attain an Environmental Quality that is
conducive for present and future generations through air, water,
and toxic and hazardous chemicals management. It aims to
pursue cooperation and partnership through Environmental
Impact Assessment System Implementation, Solid Waste
Management, and Secretariat assistance to the Pollution
Adjudication Board.

Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB)

MGB is the steward of the country’s mineral resources. They are
committed to the promotion of sustainable mineral resources
development, aware of its contribution to national economic
growth and countryside community development. MGB aims to
be the leading geoscience and georesources Bureau serving the
public and nation with scientific reliability.
