REPORT TEXT

Report text adalah sebuah teks yang
menghadirkan informasi tentang suatu hal secara apa
adanya.

Genre atau jenis text ini memang ada kesamaan
dengan descriptive text yaitu, baik descriptive text dan
report text sama sama memberikan gambaran secara
langsung tentang seseorang atau suatu benda.

Perbedaannya adalah jika kita berbicara tentang
benda atau seseorang secara spesifik seperti warna,
style, nama, dsb, itu disebut descriptive.
Dan apabila kita berbicara tentang benda atau
seseorang secara umum yang meliputi bagian-
bagiannya, kekuatannya, fungsinya, atau sifat umum
lain dari benda atau seseorang seseorang itu disebut
report.

1.Definition of Report text

“Report is a text which presents information about
something, as it is. It is as a result of systematic
observation and analyses.”
(Report adalah sebuah teks yang menghadirkan
informasi tentang suatu hal secara apa adanya. Teks
ini adalah sebagai hasil dari observasi dan analisa
secara sistematis.)

2. Struktur Umum/ Generic Structure
 General Clasification ; Stating classificationof

general aspect of thing; animal, public place, plant,
etc which will be discussed in general (Menyatakan
klasifikasi aspek umum hal; hewan, tempat umum,
tanaman, dll yang akan dibahas secara umum).
 Description : tells what the phenomenon under
discussion in terms of parts, qualities, habits or
behaviors. (Pada bagian ini biasanya memberikan
gambaran fenomena-fenomena yang terjadi; baik
bagian-bagiannya, sifat-sifatnya, kebiasaannya,
ataupun tingkah lakunya. Intinya adalah penjabaran
dari klasifikasi yang disajikan dengan ilmiah.)

3.Purpose of Report Text.

Setiap tulisan pasti memiliki tujuan mengapa tulisan
itu ditulis. Begitu juga dengan report text. Beberapa
pakar menyebutkan bahwa tujuan teks report adalah :

Its sicial purpose is presenting information about
something.They generally describe an entire class of
things,whether natural or made : mammals,the
planets,rocks,plants,countries of region, culture,
transportation and so on

Jika disimpulkan, tujuan report text adalah untuk
menyampaikan informasi hasil pengamatan dan
analisa yang sistematis. Informasi yang dijelaskan
dalam report text biasanya bersifat umum, baik itu
alamiah ataupun buata seperti binatang mamalia,

planet, bebatuan, tumbuh-tumbuhan, negara bagian,
budaya, transportasi, dan lain sebagainya.

4. Unsur Kebahasaan/ Language Feature

- Use of general nouns,example : hunting dogs, rather
than particular,examples: our dog.

- Use of relating verbs to describe features,example :
Molecules are tiny particles:

- Some use of action verbs when describing behavior,
example Panda cannot fly.

- Use of timeless present tense to indicate
usualness,example : Tropical Cyclones always begin
over the sea.

- Use of technical terms, example : Isobars are lines
drawn on weather map.

- Use of paragraph with topic sentences to oraganise
bundles of information,repeated naming of the topic
as the beginning focus of the clause.

Keterangan :

General Nouns Maksudnya suatu benda ( baik benda
hidup atau mati ) yang bersifat umum.
Coba bandingkan : Hunting dogs >< My dogs
Hunting dogs bersifat umum sedangkan My dogs
bersifat khusus.
Relating Verb disebut juga linking verb contoh To be
(is,am,are,etc),seem, look,taste,dll.
Timeless present adalah salah satu penanda waktu
dalam present tense.Contoh Often,always,usuaaly,dll

Technical terms,maksudnya adalah istilah istilah yang
meliputi teks report tsb.Contoh tentang “music” maka
istilah istilah music harus ada.

Pigeon
Pigeon refers to all birds of the family Columbidae

and order Columbiformes. They consist of 310
species. Some people may also know them as
"Doves". There is no clear distinction between the use
of the word "pigeons" and "doves" until today. But
generally, the word "Pigeons" is used to address the

species known as the Rock Dove, while the word
"Doves" is used to address a pigeon that is white

Pigeons exhibit various size and color based on
their species. The smallest species may have the size
of 15 cm and weight 30 g, while the largest species
can grow up to 75 cm with the body weight of 2 kg.
Some of their color are: pale gray, white, brown,
reddish and black. Most of them have two black bars
on their wings. They have a small head with short
beak. Their body is compact with two large and
muscular wings and two short legs on it.

Pigeons can be found almost in any region in the
world. They have been domesticated since 10.000
years ago. they have been used by humans for several
purposes such as courier to deliver short written
messages, sacred symbols in a wedding ceremony,
entertainment in a magic show and also as a racing
birds. Some species are also edible and they are
served as food in some places.

PANDA

Panda or also known as “Giant Panda” or “Panda
Bear” is a species of bear originating from central
China. The thing that can be most distinguished from
them is the black and white pattern on their bodies and
also the black fur that surrounds their eyes. They eat
bamboo as their main food, but sometimes they also
eat other grasses, wild tubers, birds, rodents, honey,
eggs, fish, and oranges and bananas.

Panda has two legs and two hands. Although they can
stand on two legs, they are often like other types of
bears that walk on their hands and feet. They have five
fingers and one thumb on his hand. This thumb is a
modified bone that helps them to hold bamboo while
eating. The fur around his stomach is white while the
hair around his chest, hands, feet and ears are black.

An adult panda can reach a length of 1.2 to 1.9 m from
nose to tail. The tail is about 10 to 15 cm in size. The
height of an adult panda can reach 60 to 90 cm and its
body weight can reach 160 kg. They can live up to 20
years in the wild and around 30 years in captivity. They
are solitary animals that have clear areas. They
communicate with each other by making sounds and
by smell marking.

Turtles are reptiles and cold blooded.They depend on
their surroundings for their body heat.

Turles are covered with a hard box like shell which
protects the soft body and organs.It is composed of an
upper section called a carapace and a lower plate
called a plaston.The head,tail and legs of turtles are
covered with scales. Turtles withdraw them inside the
shell for protection.Turtles have four paddle shaped
flippers which help them swim.Turtles do not have
teeth,they have a sharp beak instead.
Turtles can breathe on land and underwater.They
mainly eat jellyfish,sea snails and other soft
bodied,slow moving sea animals.
Female turtles lay their eggs in the sand on
beaches.Once the eggs are covered the female
returns to the sea.When the eggs hatch,the baby
turtles crawl down to the sea and take care of
themselves.

Binturongs are medium-sized mammals,which are
also known as the “bearcat” or the “Asian bearcat,”
because they look like a cross between a bear and a
cat. However, they are not related to either bears or
cats they are a civet. Binturongs live high in the trees
of forest in South –East Asia,

Binturongs have long, heavy bodies and
short,stocky legs.They have short,pointed snouth that
contain more teeth than most carnivores.They also
have many thick,conspicuous white whiskers.Their
coats are long,coarse,and shaggy,which helps keep
them dry. The main area of the coat is dark brown to
black in color,but it is tipped with gray.Their faces are
usually a paler color.Binturongs have long tufts on
small,roundedears,and reddish-brown eyes.Females
are about 20 percent larger and heavier than males.

Binturongs spend most of their time slowly and
cautiously moving in the trees,but they are not very
agile. They are generally nocturnal but occasionally
search for food during the day.Binturongs hunt small
mammals,birds,insects,fish and eggs but they also eat
fruit.

Vision is the most fundamental of human senses.
The human eye ia a very complex and truly amazing
organ.

It approximately one inch wide and deep, and 0,9
inches high. Human eyes allow us to appreciate all the
beauty of the world we live in, to read and gain
knowledge,and to communicate our thoughts and
desires to each other through visual expressions and
arts.The front of the eye includes : Iris ( the pigmented
part),cornea ( a clear dome over the Iris),pupil ( the
black circular opening in the iris,which lets light
in),sclera ( the white part) and conjunctiva ( an
insible,clear layer of tissue coverring the front of the
eye,except the cornea )

Just behind the Iris and pupil lies the lens,which
helps focus light on the back of the eye. Most of the
eye is filled with a clear gel, called the vitreous.Light
projects throughthe pupil and the lens to the back of
the eye. The inside lining of the eye is covered by
special light-sensing cells,together called the
retina.The retina converts light into electrical
impulses.Behind the eye,the optic nerve carries these
impilses to the brain.The macula is a small sensitive
area with the retina that gives central vision. It is
located in the centr of the retina and contains the
fovea.Eye color is created by the amount and the type

of pigment in the iris.Multiple genes inherited from
each parent determine a person’s eye color.

Perbedaan Report Text dan Descriptive Text dalam
Bahasa Inggris

Teks report dan descriptive memiliki struktur yang
mirip. Keduanya sama-sama memberikan penjelasan
yang rinci tentang sesuatu. Sering kali kita kesulitan
untuk membedakan teks repot dan teks deskripsi.
Teks report menggambarkan sesuatu secara umum,
bukan objek khusus.
Ketika menjelaskan binatang kucing pada umumnya,
maka tulisan tersebut termasuk teks laporan. Jika
berbicara dan menggambarkan kucing yang menjadi
binatang peliharaan kesayangan, maka tulisan itu
termasuk teks deskripsi.

Perbedaan report dan descriptive dalam bahasa
Inggris lainnya, yaitu:
1. Report: Objek yang dilaporkan bersifat umum

Descriptive: Objek yang dijelaskan bersifat spesifik
2. Report: Objektif dan sesuai fakta

Descriptive: Subjektif (terdapat opini dari penulis)
3. Report: Disertai bukti ilmiah (contoh, grafik, hasil

penelitian)
Descriptive: Disertai pendapat pribadi
4. Report: Menggunakan bahasa teknis atau istilah-
istilah khusus bidang studi tertentu
Descriptive: Menggunakan bahasa sehari-hari yang
mudah dipahami semua orang
5. Report: Tulisan bersifat ilmiah dengan adanya
penelitian khusus
Descriptive: Tulisan hanya sebatas pengamatan dan
pendapat penulis saja

Contoh Descriptive text :

The House is located in front of my house Rico. Home
of Rico has a spacious courtyard, in his home
town there’s a Cola with a fountain. There are many
fish in the kolamnya. Beside the pond there is a tree as
high as 2 meters.

Contoh report text

The House is one of the buildings that made a living

place for a certain period. Home can be a human

or enclosure. In a specific sense, the House refers

to the concepts of social–

societal entwined in residential buildings, such as the

family, live, eat, sleep, activity, and others.

Vision is one of the most fundamenta of human
senses,so am I. I capture every moment in my life and
enjoy seeing beauiful parts of the world with my eyes.

I have a pair of beautiful big eyes with black iris and
white sclera.I have thick eye lashes above my eyes. I
can move my eye balls to the right and left,upward and
downward,especially when i perform a pendet dance.
Many people are amazed by my beautiful eyes.

I always maintain my eyes health. I dont’t watch
television or stay in front of a laptop for a long time.I
also like consuming carrots to maintain my vision.I
occasionally wear glasses when riding a bicycle to
protect my eyes from dust.
