Welcome
from the Head Girls

In our Sixth Form you will discover
new friendships, explore and
challenge the limits of your
academic abilities, and find out
more about you are and who you
can become.
You are given far greater
independence than in the lower
school, and are encouraged to
take responsibility for your own
learning. Class sizes are smaller,
which means you and your
teachers get to know each other
really well: the staff know exactly
how you need to be stretched, and
how to get the very best out of
you. At the same time, they are
also always there for you, ready to
give you extra support when you
need it.
Newlands Sixth Form is the perfect
stepping stone between school and
university, or the world of work.

Leadership
Opportunities

Senior students are superb role
models and, as such, become
leaders as soon as they enter the
Sixth Form. We also encourage
everyone to consider applying to
become a Prefect, Sports or Music
Captain, Deputy Head Girl or
Head Girl.

Destinations

Newlands alumni go on to succeed in
a wide range of exciting careers – from
architects to zoologists and everything
in between!

Most of our Sixth Formers apply
to University, but some choose to
pursue an apprenticeship or go into
employment. Whichever route lies
ahead, we have all the expert advice
to help make dreams come true.

Extra-curricular activities

The modern Sixth Form Block has a
different feel to the rest of the school
and provides all students with:

• Small-group teaching
• A comfortable Common Room
• Kitchen facilities
• A supervised Study Area
• Easy access to the Sixth Form

Leadership Team
• Mentoring and support
• Careers Guidance and Library
• ICT facilities

Curriculum
and Admissions

Students can choose from a range
of 26 A-Levels and three BTECs.
We encourage independent learn-
ing, which sits alongside expert
teaching and support. Most Sixth
Formers study 3 subjects. Detailed
course information and entry
requirements can be found in the
Sixth Form Curriculum Booklet on
the website.

Pastoral Care

We take the well-being of our students
very seriously. Our aim is for everyone
to enjoy their time in the Sixth Form
and to develop strategies towards
keeping body and mind healthy and
happy. A comprehensive system of
support both cares for and guides
our Sixth Formers towards successful
completion of their chosen courses.

Enrichment

Senior students at Newlands
have the same entitlement to the
extensive range of extra-curricular
activities enjoyed by the whole
school, e.g. Duke of Edinburgh
Award. However, there are also
opportunities made exclusively
available to the Sixth Form, such
as the prestigious Extended Project
Qualification (EPQ).
