Smart Reading is a set of 6 graded readers designed to build readingconfidence in Year One to year Six pupils. Each book consists of 50 short, interesting passages that are followed by at least two related activities. The passages are based on the required topics for each level. The exposure to proper vocabulary and grammar further serves to boost pupils’ confidence in their ability to read. The frequent use of words from the respective level’s vocabulary lists aids in instilling an interest in reading. However, to provide challenge to more advanced readers and to encourage pupils to develop their dictionary skills, new words have been introduced in a subtle manner. The activities, besides promoting understanding of the passages, are designed to provide pupils with ample opportunity to practise their thinking and writing skills.
