Message from
Principal of Sekolah Menengah Sains Seri Puteri
Chairperson of SESERI - UniKL International Science Innovation &
Public Speaking Competition 2021
Assalamualaikum wbt and greetings to all.
Alhamdulillah, in the name of Allah, the most gra
cious, the most merciful. In conjunction with the
SESERI-UniKL: International Science Innovation and Public Speaking Competition 2021 programme, I
would like to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude to the staff and personnel from UniKL
and SESERI in making this prestigious event successful.
This year marks the 6th time SM Sains Seri Puteri (SESERI) has organized an international
programme with participation from Thailand and Korea. I commend this year’s organization
committee which took up the task of carrying out the competition virtually. I also would like to thank
the participants from the various schools, locally and international, for their participation in the
competition. It is your participation that has ensured the success of this international programme.
Indeed, this programme is not only for the sake of competing alone, but also to build and
strengthen the relationships between existing and new network partners. I am very proud with the
existing network between SESERI and the Thailand schools - which goes back to 2012. One of the
many ways for us to strengthen the network is by organizing programmes and competitions,
creating opportunities for students to collaborate and exchange ideas via competitions at
international level.
Last but not least, I hope participants who have participated in this programme have achieved
success. The collaboration, teamwork, diligence you put in your presentation is in itself a winner -
getting an award is an added bonus.
I would like to end my speech with this quote.
“Successful and unsuccessful people do not vary greatly in their abilities.
They vary in their desires to reach their potential” - John Maxwell
With that, I thank you.

Message from
President of
University Kuala Lumpur(UniKL)
Assalamualaikum wbt and greetings to all.
I would like to take this opportunity to Sek
olah Menengah Sains Seri Puteri (SESERI) on
their success in organizing the SESERI-UniKL: International Science Innovation and Public
Speaking Competitions 2021. I also would like to thank all staff and personnel from
University Kuala Lumpur for their role in ensuring the university’s collaboration with
SESERI. The organizing committee from both institutions had a tall order this year as the
competition was held virtually. It was also a tough call as the current pandemic crisis
limited the participation of schools from different countries. Despite this setback, the ISIPc
2021 was carried out successfully. My appreciation to the organizing committee and the
others who had a hand in this success.
Innovation today has become the new global benchmark and this demands youth of today
to think critically, innovate and invent to meet the demands of the IR4 and its evolving
status. SESERI has taken a step in this direction in organizing a competition which spreads
the importance of science innovation as an economic catalyst and the ability to speak
confidently.
This competition has also taken into account the need to work collaboratively outside the
local circle of schools. With the participation of schools from Thailand and Korea, the
exchange of ideas using background knowledge and working together in support of a
shared vision will be realized, making ownership and accountability occur indirectly. I am
very confident and convinced that these important skills will continue to be cultivated
making creativity and innovation to become the norm instead of an exception.
In brief, it is my hope that this programme will continue to be used by participants as a
platform for design and innovation as well as to speak confidently competing and creating
success together in both fields. Congratulations again to all.
With that, I thank you.

Teachers face the problem of ensuring the students maintain the minimum distance required
to meet the safety standards at school among students during the COVID-19 pandemic
because students fail to estimate the accurate distance between themselves bound to physical
limitations. Spatium Cautio is an innovation that helps students in maintaining minimum
distance according to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) which has been declared by
the Health Ministry of Malaysia during the pandemic of COVID-19. The objective of this project
is mainly to increase the efficiency of students maintaining social distance and ease the
responsibility of teachers which is to ensure the students maintain social distance among
themselves during schooling hours. The ultrasonic sensor on the prototype can detect the
distance of 1 meter by emitting ultrasonic sound waves and converts the reflected sound into
an electrical signal. The signal will be sent to the buzzer to create vibration and the LED light will
lit brightly. Hence, the individual will be alert to mind their social distancing. As for advantages,
this prototype is a user-friendly product as it is in small size that will ease students to wear it.
Besides that, our project can prevent the emergence of new clusters in institutions since the
r-naught value can be reduced.Lastly, this portable innovation does prevent students from
talking closely with each other. In terms of socio environment, Spatium Cautio is an
environmentally-friendly product and does not emit greenhouse gases that will cause pollution
to the environment. In the aspect of socio economic,Spatium Cautio is affordable by people of
various economic status. This is because the components used in the product can be obtained
easily. For commercialisation potential, Spatium Cautio can be sold at RM 40 per unit and the
product targets school students to be aware and safe. Hence, Spatium Cautio may also
increase the country's economic status as commercialized distance trackers have high demand
in the market especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Spatium Cautio is a promising project
that will help the nation get through the struggle in reducing the daily Covid-19 cases.

Insufficient amount of water supply for daily uses have been a regular problem faced by
the teachers, staffs and especially the pupils of Sekolah Menengah Sains Muzaffar
Syah(MOZAC), a fully residential secondary school situated on top of the hilly-parts of Ayer
Keroh. Identified factors that are in-correlation to the problem are the unpredictable
water cuts and excessive use of clean water for minor purposes such as watering the
greeneries around the school compound. MOZAC students are also found to be not good
at practicing water conservation. Many use the water in excess unnecessarily while
making their ablution. This study aims to conserve excess water, recycle and treat used
water and repurpose it for daily use.MOZAC SMART WATER CONSERVATION & RECYCLING
SYSTEM (MOSWARS) is a simplewater managementsystem that helps us to achieve the
study’s aim. Water is collectedand harvestedfrom the ablution area and the roof of the
school’ssurau, al-Abrar, which is then treated and directed to a water reservoir to be used
for daily purposes. By recycling the harvested water, less clean water will be used for plant
watering activities. MOSWARS is marketable and has it’s own commercial values. It is a
dynamic module, with more reservoirs can be connected to the line in order to increase
the amount of water harvested. It also puts emphasis on the use of green technology in
solving a problem, a trait that is in tandem with the world’s current trend in saving the
environment. In conclusion, MOSWARS is a water management system that is smart and
reliable for the community.

The study of the efficac

bacteria on banknotes
and coins before and after the experiment. The result showed
that the distance of UVC
rays which has wavelength of 254 nm to the inclined surface of
5 cm and the slope of
the slope of 35 degrees was found to be able to reduce the
number of bacteria S
taphylococcus aureusand Escherichia colion the surface of
banknotes and coins up
to 90% and 80%, respectively. Because of the 35-degree slope
of the ground, the spee
d of banknotes and coins move slowly. Thus, it travels through
UVC rays at an optima
l range where UVC rays can destroy both types of bacteria.
Moreover, wavelengths of UVC radiation can effectively inhibit the growth of Corona
virus. (U.S. Food&Drug, 2021). Cash sterilizer machine with UVC reduces the spread of
pathogenic microorganisms and reduce the number of patients

I was wondering back
then if there is a way to outsmart this barbaric behaviour. Then,
I was thinking about a

That's how I thought
about a hand sanitiser shooter that was similar to spiderman

. It will be better than the usual boring hand sanitiser machine.
After research on th

invention.With the he

this project is achievable and cheap. It is a device wrapped on an arm, havinga button
that shoots gel when it's pressed like spiderman. The children will love it, as they can
have the opportunity to be a hero of themselves and bear the responsibility of
mankind. This device would sell well because the parents can take advantage of this

Astlet and Astbox is a
n innovation that helps busy working parents monitor their
asthmatic children from
time to time so they could take precautionary steps to prevent
unwanted incidents. A
stlet and Astbox consists of sensors that help in detecting
triggers of an asthma
attack thus notify the parents of the child, and it is also an
invention based on Inte
rnet of Things (IoT) that is beneficial for easier monitoring. Using
the Blynk App, Astlet an
d Astbox could be monitored from anywhere at any time by the
parents of the asthmati
c child. This innovation is based on the concept of preventing an
asthma attack from occ
urring by eliminating the triggers, in our case bad air quality and
unsuitable temperature and humidity rate, so the child would not be having an asthma
attack. This innovation is also introduced to reduce cost used by hospitals or
emergency retrieval unit to treat a child’s asthma attacks, and also provide easy
monitoring for parents so busy working parents have the chance to be updated on how
their asthmatic child is when they are not present there.

irregular schedule of executing grease trap maintenance will
lower the efficiency of rem

Grease Trap maintenance system based on the Internet of Things (IoT) as
countermeasures for the growing problem.
The testing from the turbidity sensor testing and ultrasonic sensor testing is used to
collect the output data from the sensors to ensure the water quality and quantity. As the

Maskcrete will lead to the reduction of mask waste as well as reducing the world
dependability towards cement and promoting eco-friendly constructions. Polypropylene
fabrics will be mixed with sand, aggregate stone, eggshell and water to create Maskcrete
that can be used as concrete based but only at a fraction of the normal costs. We have
tested Maskcrete for its strength, inflammability and hardness by comparing it to the
normal cement-based concrete. The result has proved the uses of polypropylene have

comes an acid salt and causes eutrophication causing water to

nthetic detergent is a main reason of water pollution.
Objective:The main reason
that causeswater pollution is phosphorus that is one of the
ingredients of synthetic deter
gent. To solve it, natural detergent is solution. But it has one big
issue, weak cleaning power. S
olving this problem, I used lined that makes cleaning power up
even though it is eco-friendly.
Dissolvent: The main solutio
n of synthetic detergent is not containing chemical surfactant
which can kill aquatic life. Also
, sodium Laureth Sulfate, peige and sodium Lauryl Sulfate in the
chemical surfactant cause side
effect like cancer, atopy, contact dermatitis stunted growth and
cataract. To remove impuriti
es and cleans the dishes with natural detergent, we can mix
potassium, sodium and magnesium. To make natural detergent, high-concentration alkaline
ionized water concentrated in an ionic state lined, is a wonderful ingredient. It is e to clean
polluted materials more easily and have nice cleaning power.
Effect: By using this natural detergent, people that have sensitive skin don’t have to worry
about inflammation and some side effects that chemical detergent has. So people that have
those kinds of skin would buy this so if this natural detergent is commercialized it can result in
lots of profits. Thus, it is easily washed out by water and, different from synthetic detergent that
is important characteristic because it doesn’t cause water pollution. Eunjoo Kim, a CEO of
brand EGenbio that sell natural detergent, said the company now slowly gains attention and
money. If we use synthetic detergent, we don’t harm the river, lake or ocean. Therefore, it will
be the key of saving the Earth from water pollution.

problems, one of the
most
serious being oil spillage into water sources. It is therefore
no surprise that this
issue is still a focal point for researchers all over the world. As a
result of the effects fr

it was found that it
also disrupted the scenery and that the oil slick blocked gas
exchanges and photo
synthesis of phytoplankton, algae and aquatic plants affected by
the decreased oxygen
in the water. This reduction of oxygen has detrimental effects on
many forms of aquati
c life. In the past, researchers found that carbon has properties to
effectively absorb
oil and examining information on the website,
https://www.scienced
irect.com, we discovered that when popcorn is roasted until it
becomes carbonized,
its surface area expands and its porosity is enhanced and as a
consequence, it main
tains a good oil absorbent efficiency. Moreover, if it stays in a
shape with a large en

will more effectively w

over-consumption of
oil are oil absorbent booms that control the spread of oil made
from popcorn-derived porous carbon flakes. Apart from its absorbent properties, the
material's manufacturing costs are cheaper, easy to come by and convenient for expand
production capacity in the future.
In comparing the amount of oil absorbency from popcorn carbon flake booms with
other carbon material booms in the same amount of water found that less of the
popcorn carbon flake booms could absorb more than others. Alternately, the booms
made from popcorn-derived porous carbon flakes can also be dried out and utilized as
fuel, which further highlights their economical benefits,

Conduct an experiment by mixing 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 300 ml of water,
then adding 1 tablespoon of ammonia and 1 tablespoon of vinegar. Then mix it
together. Do it the same way as any other starches. After that, it was tested for
effectiveness by spraying on glass and leaving it for a specified period of time. Then
clean and measure the humidity of the air compared to the humidity on the glass. The
results showed that cornstarch glass cleaner was as effective in cleaning as other
common glass cleaners in the market. But it can storb moisture better than other
starches. It was found that the moisture on the glass decreased. The adhesion of dust
on the glass after using the cornstarch glass cleaner took longer to cling to the dust

problems. Firstly, the knot
design requires the wearer to tie their tie. This burns a lot of time considering
that the wearer has to tie
it all over again if the tie is knotted unwell or has been untied. Secondly,
traditional ties tend to caus
e suffocation or discomfort due to the tie looping around the neck tightly. The
neck is a soft and sensitive part of the human body that is needed for wearers to breathe. TYNET’s
objective is to pursue a convenient, comfortable ,safe and easy solution corresponding to the problems
that occur while using a traditional tie such as discomfort occurring from suffocation or even the time
taken for a person to wear a tie. The methodology of TYNET’s design; the neck part of the tie is cut from
the bottom part, making TVNET a two-piece design. The neck part is then equipped with magnets on
each side. A clip-on concept is applied into TYNET. Why magnets? It is due to its convenience to wear and
to take off the tie. It is also easily adjustable. To counter the inconsistent and imperfect knot when tying a
traditional tie, the knot is sewed so that it maintains a perfect shape. There are plenty of advantages that
one can acquire by simply choosing to wear TYNET such as being time-efficient with its clip-on design
which ensures a time-efficient solution when wearing it in a rush situations like in the morning, in the
toilet or even for Muslims, taking it off before conducting their daily prayers. TYNET also prevents injuries
that can occur with traditional ties like suffocation and strangulation. TYNET will surely make a difference
when it has been commercialized as it will quickly change the public perspective towards traditional ties.
At the academic level, students in middle school or high school would actually be safer. A study
conducted by R.Hirschmann shows that 23 percent of Form 1 students, who were in the first year of
secondary school and around the age of 13 years old, reported to have experienced bullying, and the tie
could possibly be used to strangle them. On the other hand as the public opinion is quickly searching
towards the concept of convenient ties, the other companies surely would be inspired in finding the
concept to construct their very own easy-to-wear ties, or even other attires. The public would surely be
more comfortable and safer wearing TYNET. To put things in perspective, we, students of Sekolah Tuanku

apparatus in a laboratory. In
the extraction of essential oils from Cymbopogon nardus, the
volume of the extract from a
30-minute session of steam distillation by the machine was
approximately 99.33 ± 10.07
cm3. On the other hand, the essential oils extracted by the

cm3. Moreover, the purity of
the oil in water by extraction
with hexane layer through th
e essential oil. A purity of 20.7 percent was obtained from the
machine produced by recycla
ble materials while the laboratory machine produced the oil
with 10.6 percent of purity. I
t is clear that the machine product by this research can work
more efficiently than the labo
ratory machine. Besides, this machine is more durable as it is
made from long-lasting and
recyclable materials. Thus, the broad use of the machine
tested could significantly redu
ce the laboratory expenses.

At present, the number of
transmitted diseases is increasing annually from The
se
xually
division of AIDS and STIs shortu
rl.asia/ALsG3and sexually transmitted disease screenings, we
found that there isn’t adequate
examination equipment that is convenient and easy to use ,
and so most people end up ha
ving to go to the hospital for examination. The problem is that
people may be embarrassed a
bout the prospect of getting a sexually transmitted disease
test done at the hospital and
not prepared to let others know. This may, in turn, lead to
situations where potential dise
ases are not treated until they became more severe, with the
heightened threat of infecting o
thers. Even with the current herpes tests, people still cannot
check their statuses by them
selves and the examination process is difficult and time
consuming. There are HIV and
syphilis testing kits that can be tested at home. For some
people, however, there is also
the difficulty of having to draw their own blood. In doing so,
they may cause an infection in
the wound at the puncture site if they are not careful and do
not keep it clean. The organ
izing committee has therefore invented the project. Color
Changing Stickers for Testing HIV, Syphilis and Herpes on Sanitary Napkins using menstrual
blood to reduce the procedure for drawing blood for women is a concept derived from the
working principle of the pregnancy test device from the website
http://medicaldevices.oie.go.th/box/Article/9240/Pregnancy Test Kit.pdf. The color bar
display of the test plate area is made of nitrocellulose membrane and the colloidal gold-
coated area has a disease-specific antibody coating. Using the principle of
immunochromatographic assay, the sticker has a distinctive feature that can detect 3 STIs
on one sheet -HIV, syphilis and herpes. The purple bar shows the effect of HIV infection, the
yellow bar shows the signs of herpes and the blue bar shows the signs of syphilis.
From the performance test, it was found that the sticker sticks well on the sanitary napkin
and that the sticker experiment can change color according to the type of disease.
Therefore, it can be concluded that the HIV, syphilis and herpes test color change stickers
are effective to use from the reproductive age onwards for women. They can help women
get tested for sexually transmitted diseases easily and conveniently.

What excites you more
than receiving parcels during this Movement Control Order
(MCO)? Are you aware o
f the things that come with a purchased parcel? Bubble wrap! The
pop-able plastic packag
ing has been used since 1957 and harms the environment ever
since. Bubble wrap can
take more than 500 years to decompose, depending on the size.
We hereby would like to
introduce our product, Involucro D’eco, an alternative for an eco-
friendly packaging material made of biodegradable sources and an efficient fertilizer for
plants, thus preventing excessive plastic wastes. This innovative product is able to
decompose and act like fertiliser to the soil. This is due to the combination of the bacteria
called Ideonella Sakaiensis and the fish emulsion. The process takes place by mixing
starch, vinegar, water and glycerin together. The mixture is stirred thoroughly with a whisk
and heated over medium heat. The fish emulsion and the Ideonella Sakaiensis are then
added to the mixture and mixed well over medium heat as well. In order to get the typical
bubble wrap look, the mixture is poured in a bubble wrap mould that has been spreaded
with oil to avoid the mixture from sticking to the mould and is left to dry. The advantage of
using Involucro D’eco is it takes 3 to 6 months to decompose, much faster than the plastic
bubble wrap. This newly-innovated packaging wrapper is strong enough to protect its
content and have a good heat resistance. Since it is made from renewable biomass
sources, this wrapper will be cheaper than the commercialised plastic bubble wrap. On
top of that, our product is able to decompose as a fertiliser and supply nutrients to plants,
thus reducing plastic consumption in the retail industry. Due to the pandemic, the
Movement Control Order (MCO) undoubtedly accelerated the popularity of e-commerce.
Hence, it gives us a great opportunity to market and promote our product to the world.
We will start promoting the product through e-marketplaces such as Shopee, Lazada and
Carousell. This product is prompt to be purchased by online business sellers as they need
a wrapper to secure their products.

Nowaday, a durian is a
famous fruit that is very popular in Thailand and abroad, and it is
also a one of Thai cro
ps. Therefore the demand of a durian seedling increases. But this
fruit is classified as diff
icult and takes a long time to grow. Most of the problems are in the
period that the plant i
s growing. The problem is the leaning or falling of a durian tree due
to soil not dense. Bec
ause durians should plant on the slopes and soil must be dense to
hold a durian’s roots
and trunk. A durian usually plants in a mound and hole. The
difference between th
e two kinds is, to plant in a mound grows better than to plant in
hole, but to plant in ho
le holds a durian trunk better due to in a mound that soil is not so
dense as to plant in ho
le that makes a durian tree lean and dies. The problem that occurs
causes this project. W
e use the materials which are hard, enduring, and biodegradable to
make the lowest cone
-shaped nursery pots with a wide base and put dense soil in the
pots. The pots will hold the durian tree before the mound's soil is dense and ready to hold
the durian tree. The results are the durian trees which plants in the pots exactly decrease
leaning and death, and the seedling can hold soil faster than planting in a normal hole due
to the roots getting more soil and oxygen that make the survival rate higher.
