DIDYOUKNOW ?

Taman Negara isa diverse nationalpark situated on the
MalaypeninsulaoreasternMalaysia,itboastseminentflora
and fauna.Itis also home to a wide variety oftigers,
macaquesand birds.Itisconsidered asoneoftheoldest
rainforestsintheworldwithanestimatedageof130million
years.Itgivesyouan insightintothetropicallifeanditis
visitedbythousandsoftouristseveryyear.
Itistheplaceforthebestjungleexperiencein Peninsular
Malaysia;perfectforthose thatdon'thave the option of
visiting the junglesofBorneo.Within the park there are
numerousresorts,ranging from basicguesthousesto nice
resorts.Therearemanyactivitiestodointhepark,likehiking,
nightwalks,rapidshootingandfishing.Becauseofitslocation
youcaneasilycombineavisittoTamanNegarawithatripto
Cameron Highlandsoreven someoftheeastcoastislands
(likePerhentianIsland).

ORIGIN

TamanNegaraoriginallywasgazettedasGunungTahanGameReserve
in 1925andin 1939itwasdeclaredasaNationalParkbytheBritish
Administratorsunderthename‘KingGeorgeV NationalPark’under
Enactment1939,tocommemoratetheinstallationofKingGeorgeVin
England.Historicallythethreepartswereenactedundertherespective
MalaystatesofKelantan,(TamanNegaraEnactment(Kelantan)1938),
Pahang (Taman Negara Enactment(Pahang)1939)and Terengganu
(TamanNegaraEnactment(Terengganu)1939),andhencecameunder
thepurview oftherespectiveSultansofthethreestatesandtheBritish
High Commissioner.However,afterIndependence in 1957“Taman
Negara”came underthe jurisdiction ofthe King (Yang Dipertuan
Agong)andtherespectiveSultansofthethreestates.Administratively
it was put under the Ministry of Natural Resources and the
Environmentandtheadministrationandmanagementcameunderthe
DepartmentofWildlifeand NationalParks,PeninsularMalaysiaor
PERHILITAN.TheNationalParkwasdeclaredasASEAN HeritagePark

intheyear1984.

ACTIVITIESWECANDO

CANOPY WALK
Seeand feeltherealdifferentexperience.Walkon the
world’slongestcanopywalkway,530m longand 40m
abovethegroundlevel.ThisisamustdoactivityinTaman
Negaraandoneofthemostmemorablememoriesforyou
tobringhome.Enjoythemagnificentpanoramicview of
floraandfaunaalongthewalkway.

JUNGLE TREKKING
TamanNegaraKualaTahanisoneofthebestplacestodo
trekkinginMalaysia.Thereareafew floorboardtrailsin
KualaTahan,andoneofthemostpopulartrailsistoBukit
Teresek. Trekking under the high density rainforest
canopyabout1.7km from WildlifeHQtoBukitTeresek.

FISHING
TamanNegaraisafishingparadiseforanglers.Thepark
authoritypermitsSungaiTembelingand SungaiKeniam
forfishing.Fish netting,poisoning,electriccurrentand
etc.arestrictlyprohibitedandillegal.Amongthepopular
catchesinTamanNegaraareKelah,Patin,Baung,Gohok,
Tenggalan,Lampam,Kraiand Tapah.The bestfishing
monthsareduringdriermonthsinFebruarytoSeptember
oftheyear.

THE NIGHT JUNGLE WALK
TheNightJungleWalkisthebestwayforyoutoobserve
anddiscover thenocturnalcreaturesinTamanNegara.
Atnight, thesideofthejunglecomesalive.Bringyour
owntouchlightthathelpyoutofindthenocturnal,and
insectsalongthetrail.Pleasebequitewhenyoutrekalong
thetrail,justtomakesureyoudonotscaredthecreatures
away.

Is there any age restrictions?
No,thereisnoagerestriction. Youcancomeeitherwith
yourbabyoryourolderparents.Howeveryou mighthave
some difficultiesto do some ofyourpark activities.For
example,trekkingto BukitTeresek requiresomephysical
fitness.You need todotrekking about1.7km from the
Wildlifeofficetothepeak.
I’mworryaboutmosquitoes,aretheyalotintheTaman
Negara?
No,youarehardlyfindthem whileyouaredoingthepark
activities.Why?Itisbecause,TamanNegaraispreservedby
an ecological balance rainforest and its environment.
Inhabitantsarecontrolbythelaw ofnature.Mosquitoesare
controlled bypredatorssuch asdragonflies,frogs,spiders
andotherinsects.
Are there a lot of leeches?
Ifyoudon’tlikeleeches,don’tworry. Itishardtofindthem
alongthepopulartrailinTamanNegara.It’sseasonal,canbe
seenmoreduringwetseason.Donotpanicifyougotthem
andseebleedingcomeoutfrom yourskin. Justremoveit
off.Itdoesnothurtorpain.
