Movie Review

By Mansi Singh

A wild and wacky road trip could be life

changing! This can only be understood in this movie
that has it all. Featuring the ever charming actress
Catherine Deneuv, Emmanuelle Bercot has come up
with this poignant French Film which is truly episodic.
On my way is about an aimless journey of Bettie
(Catherine Deneuv) who has been thrown to perils
of life. Her tedious life as a restaurant owner and
memories of a doomed romance makes her head

over to a full-fledged road trip.

This road trip is not just a road trip but a journey
that starts with nothing and ends up making Bettie’s
life worthy like never before. From a frenzied drive
past the bucolic fields of Brittany to halting just
for few puffs of a cigarette, from stumbling over a
young man at a bar to renewing ties with alienated
daughter and grandson, her life seems to change

totally.

Featuring a deep connect, this movie is a mixed bag
of emotions that are amazing to relate. On my way
is extremely narrative and at the same time dramatic.
This movie sets in with melancholy that further drifts
to a bizarre comedy and by the end, it becomes

playful and romantic.

Catherine Deneuv, the legendary actress looks
natural and totally charismatic all through the film.
Rest of the characters have done justice to the roles
they have played and have come out beautifully in
the film. Writer and director Emmanuelle Bercot have
effortlessly painted varied scenarios throughout. The
story ends up in a picturesque country house amidst
a lot of merriment and there possesses a distinct
freshness even when it ends. It’s a light movie which
has a right balance of all the significant elements,

and an exhilarating tale truly worth watching.

have seen or heard of this structure
that speaks the fables of an illustrious
past. Set few meters away from The
Doon School, you will have to ask
the surrounding locals to find the
way. Eidgah or Idgah, also Eid Gah
or Id Gah is a term used in South
Asian Islamic culture for the open-
air enclosure usually outside the city
reserved for Eid Salah, Islamic prayer
offered in the morning of Eid al-Fitr and
Eid al-Adha. This one monument must
have existed since 1955. Back then,
there was nothing around except for
this structure which was surrounded
by Sheesham trees. This spot usually
remained empty with no one visiting
it. This was one reason it had become
a favorite haunt for kids living nearby.
They were seen playing and flying kites
in its premises. Only at the time of
Eid, Idgah was frequented by people
from places far and wide. Cycles and
bullock carts were seen crowding the
area, as they were the only mediums
of travel. People used to gather in this
open space to offer Namaz. Taabeez
sellers, balloonwalas, and hawkers
were spotted selling varied stuff at the
entrance of this scared space. Soon
after the Namaz got over the pavilions
would again become vacant. This
monument on the inside is a forgotten
gem to discover. Its whimsical charm
can only be realized once you visit this
place. Idgahs are very little in number in
the city and this one boasts of its mystic
architectural beauty. Towering minarets
and a lustrous mausoleum at Idgah,
stand evidence to the magnificent past
of the city that is worth comprehending.

Kali Temple - Set away from the hustle and bustle, this monument is tucked in the outskirts of the city. Travel

past the Old Mussoorie Road and cut to the one that takes you to the Shahanshahi Ashram. On reaching take a meandering
lane that takes you further in towards the trekking route to Mussoorie. Slowly and steadily as you make your way towards the
sprawling mountains, the temple comes into picture. Upon witnessing it, you are sure to fall short of words. You will get to see
this temple standing in the middle of nowhere with the lush green mountains in the background. And a crooked road going
way up and disappearing into the wilderness. It’s one of the oldest temples in the city dedicated to goddess Kali. Don’t know
if travelers come to this spot as it is a lot secluded. One can find meager settlements around the temple. There is one thing that
makes this temple bizarre, if you go closer to it, you will realize that its structure is tilted. Well, even this adds to its strange
beauty that is sure to grow on you. It’s one and only one primeval tilted temple that you will get to view in the city of Dehradun.

point, we must realize that two things emerge - change
that we make happen and the one that happens to us
irrespective. It becomes important that we understand
it.

But change for some can be a lot to absorb. Sometimes
we just cannot assimilate one more thing when we are
distressed or perturbed. It is as if in this whole evolution

of change our circuits are jammed and
we need to stay with the familiar and
comforting parts. At that trying time,
meditation is a good alternative to quiet
the mind.

Our lives can sometimes be so
mundane. We go through them like
nomads. Expectations are like that as
well, since we grow up with inherited
ideas from our peers. Like we expect
that marriages last forever, perfect jobs
and vacations exist, children would
behave, and retirement and friends
would happen timely. And that, at some
time we would inherit the keys of the
kingdom and live happily ever after.
We now know better in this age and
century that everything changes with
time and circumstance.
