2019 School Pictures
Our school picture process was definitely entertaining this year. As most of you know the photos taken during our annual picture day are used for the Kilombo Calendar. In addition to the calendar picture packages are also for sell to our families.

We Must All Pour Into the Scholars
Our institution is blessed to have an array of talented community members, Kilombo supporters, and extended family that come in weekly to share there gifts. From drum, dance, language, art and even chess are experiences that add to the fullness of Kilombo. If you have special skills and talents that can be shared with the students, please reach out to the school staff so that we can schedule some time for you to come in.

A Word From One Of Our Alumni
My name is Noni Gibbs. I was a student a Kilombo Academic & Cultural Institute from the beginning of my educational career until I graduated from eighth grade, but the school seems to have always been apart of me. I am currently a first-year student at Spelman College, working towards an Economics major. Growing up Kilombo was a pillar of my life. It was there that I found my best friends, discovered my love of performing and developed my voice as an advocate for my community. Being that my time at Kilombo
spanned such a large chunk of my life so far, many of my happiest memories took place there. However, one experience that stands out is going to volunteer at a local radio station, answering phones and taking donations. While we had a great time learning within the classroom, one of the unique things about my experience at Kilombo was being able to learn out in the world as well as in the classroom. I am grateful to Kilombo for all of the love it has given to me, and I hope that I can continue to reciprocate it in all that I do.

Fundraising Banquet
Hey Kilombo Family, The 14th Annual Fundraising Dinner is coming up on November 16, 2019 @6:30pm. Our fundraising efforts are well underway, and we need your support! I am asking each and every one of you to sell at least 2 tickets to the dinner ($60/person). Please come out, and invite your friends and family, to support your scholars and the continuation of our beloved school! We need all hands on deck to reach our goal of raising $10,000 - $15,000 from this one event!
As a part of our fundraising strategy, Kilombo is selling ads and sponsorships. Every year, Kilombo creates a beautiful, keepsake program where readers not only learn more about the school, its mission, and the teachers and students, but can find ads featuring local businesses and services from people within and connected to this community. From handymen/handywomen to legal services, to holistic health-care providers and everything in between, our ad book is a great resource for community members interested in cooperative economics and collective work and responsibility (Kwanzaa’s next, I want to keep you on your toes!). Parents and family members can also buy ads to highlight and praise their scholars. Prices range from $40-$150.
We need sponsors too! Our sponsorship levels range from Red: $500; Black: $1,000; and Green: $1,500. Sponsors receive several benefits for their donations, including a full-page ad in the book.
I’ve attached an explanation of sponsorship levels and a template for the letter we encourage you to share with the businesses you approach for sponsorship. I’ve also attached the ad catalogue that gives prices and examples of ad sizes and configurations. Have your ad and sponsor clients send payment via CashApp to @Kilombo (make sure they press “add” for Aminata Umoja; her name pops up for folks who’ve never sent money to Kilombo) to confirm her as the recipient. Or they can visit www.kilomboschool.com and press donate. Whatever method they choose, make sure they make a note that they are buying an ad, the ad size, and the student/family they are supporting. Your family will receive fundraising credit for selling ads and sponsorships!
Most importantly, have them email their ad image to Asinia Tyehimba
at [email protected] no later than November 5, 2019 to meet the print deadline. Make sure the image is formatted, as best you can, to fit your preferred space. If you need help, reach out to Kokayi...he’s a wizard with digital media.
Thank you all again for your continued support and love, and here’s to a beautiful and successful Dinner!
Sincerely,
La’ Trishia Stallings
