A. Definition (What is exactly Conditional Sentence)
A conditional sentence is a type of sentence that states a condition and
the outcome of that condition occurring. Conditional sentences are
made up of a dependent clause and an independent clause joined to
express said condition.
A conditional sentence is a sentence that expresses a condition. A condition
is something that can only happen IF something else occurs.
A conditional sentence contains an independent clause and a dependent
clause that almost always begins with “if.” A conditional sentence is only a
conditional sentence if it has both of these parts.
Some conditional clauses might begin with “when.”
ATTENTION!
There are four types of conditional sentences.
It’s important to use the correct structure for each of these different conditional
sentences because they express varying meanings.
Pay attention to verb tense when using different conditional modes.
Use a comma after the if-clause when the if-clause precedes the main clause.
Conditional sentences are statements discussing known factors or hypothetical
situations and their consequences. Complete conditional sentences contain a
conditional clause (often referred to as the if-clause) and the consequence.
EXAMPLES:
If I save enough, I can go on vacation.
The dependent clause is “If I save enough.”
The independent clause is “I can go on vacation.”
You can have dessert if you finish your homework.
The dependent clause is “if you finish your homework.”
The independent clause is “you can have dessert.”
B. Conditional type 1
The conditional sentences indicate us a possible condition and its probable result. It
means that the expected actions depends on a condition. If Clauses – Type 1 is
used to express a possibility in the future (It is not certain that it will happen, but it is
possible). We use this type when talking about real and possible situations in the
future.
In a Type 1 conditional sentence, the tense in the 'if' clause is the simple present, and the tense in
the main clause is the simple future OR MODALS (CAN, COULD, SHOULD, WILL, MIGHT, MAY)
If clause (condition) Main clause (result)
If + simple present simple future
If clause (condition) Main clause (result)
that thing will happen.
If this thing happens
