Career Research Worksheet
This worksheet is about the career field as a whole. For example, you are researching
“education” and not second grade science teacher.
Please add spacing to this document and type your answers under the questions below. Be sure to
highlight your answers in yellow so I can identify your information quickly.
1. What is your intended career? If you are not sure of a career right now, choose one of interest to
explore.Economist
2. Find a professional website for your career. You can find this on the OOH (Occupational Outlook
Handbook). Go to the “more info” tab and then click on the name of a professional website for that
career. The OOH is NOT the professional website for a specific career. What is the name of the
website? Please provide the link here. As a last resort, if you cannot find a professional website on
the OOH, you may find a professional website sometimes by using google. (Please show me first in
class if you had to use google.) https://www.bls.gov/ooh/life-physical-and-social-
science/economists.htm
3. Using the OOH (“more info” tab), a professional website specific to your career, or the library
database, find one professional/academic journal (something that comes out periodically either in
print or web form) related to your career. What is the name of the journal? https://www.aeaweb.org/
4. Field/discipline:
Economists apply both qualitative and quantitative economic analysis to topics within a variety of fields, such

healthcare, or energy, while others examine employment levels, business cycles, exchange rates, taxes,
inflation, or interest rates.
5. Knowledge /Training:

fields, but a strong background in mathematics is essential. A Ph.D. in economics may require several
years of study after earning a bachelor’s degree, including completion of detailed research in a
specialty field.
c. Analytical skills. Economists must be able to review data in detail, observe patterns,
perform advanced calculations, and draw logical conclusions. For example, labor
economists analyze the effects of labor policies on employment. Critical-thinking skills.

instance, they might identify how economic trends may affect an organization. Speaking
skills. Economists must be able to explain their work to others. They often give
presentations and explain reports to clients who may not have a background in economics.
Writing skills. Economists must be able to present their findings clearly. Many economists
prepare reports for colleagues or clients; others write for publication in journals or for news
media.

in many cases, I need the help of others to overcome factors beyond my control. In one instance last year, I
was creating a consumer event that had a lot of moving parts. It wasn’t until after the point that I realized how
almost I had pulled it off. I was trying to control everything from the strategic plan down to the tiniest details,
like table settings. I did a lot of self-reflection afterwards. Since then, I’ve been preparing myself to take a
move back before diving into problem-solving mode and recognize people or groups that can be resources to
me.

to be essential attributes or skills for the position as well as conditions that you are actively developing, such

Transferable Skills
As you begin your job search, it is important that you know your own qualifications. Over the years you
have developed many skills from coursework, extracurricular activities and your total life experiences.
If you have researched topics and written, and edited and presented papers for classes, you have used
skills which are not limited to any one academic discipline or knowledge area, but are transferable to
many occupations. A prospective employer expects you to be able to apply the skills you have learned
in college to the work environment.
Below is a list of five broad skill areas which are divided into more specific, skills. Rate the skills
indicating your ability in each area.
0 = no ability 2 = some ability
1 = enough ability to get by with help from others 3 = strong ability

Career Exploration: MBA
Since I was a little child, I was told to be ‘rich’ and ‘powerful,’ so I grow up with that
philosophy. I have always been the guy who gets anything he wants, no matter how stupid
something may looks I get the way to do it. I’ve done so many things people said were
impossible or too difficult. Or that’s what I thought until I start college,
When you raised up in a third world country, life looks like nothing depends on you,
And every time you succeed in anything, that society, make you think you crazy or stupid
So many people told me I was insane when I told them I wanted to be successful when I
said I wanted to go the USA to get a better education.
This is not easy. When you leave everything behind. When you are a new intruder
(outsider). When you can even speak their mother language.
But I’m doing my best. Somethings is not enough. But I won’t give up.
I learn from getting a punch in the face
Introduction
When the idea of money hits and starts changing the way I thought. Now I can’t decide
between doing what I want and do something that could make me wealthy and Powerful. We are
living a modern era of slavery; an economic one, where you may only be free if you get enough
money.

company, working 40 hours a week for a miserable salary
I have never work, and I am failing college when classmates work 40 hours and get only
a minimum wage. I don’t want to be part of this (slavery) system. I fail the idea of been another

I have never work, and I am failing college when classmates work 40 hours and get only
a minimum wage. But I’m sure somehow I’m going to be a successful person who is going to
achieve all my goals. I may make my own company and start doing thongs by myself.
