OF PARTNERSHIP AND INNOVATION
[1888 - 2018]
From the moment that those first two stems of Canary Island bananas arrived outside our
small London office on September 20th, 1888, we’ve been passionate about bananas.
Over these past 130 years we’ve worked with growers, shippers and retailers to develop industry
leading techniques that improve efficiency, support sustainability and deliver consistent quality.

FYFFES UNDERGROUND
It’s surprising what’s hidden beneath the roads of
Basingstoke, home to our UK Head Office. Wonderful
murals depicting Fyffes trucks back in the day have been
carefully painted on under road subways and depict our
trucks from as early as the 1930’s.
Julie Mulley, Fyffes Administrator, came across the two
murals you see on her lunchtime walk. The murals have
in fact been there for sometime and were created as part
of a sponsorship deal with local museum Milestones back
in the year 2000. Other local businesses have also been
painted in various murals around Basingstoke.
It’s great to know that 130 years of Fyffes lives on under
the roads of Basingstoke.

DUBAI WORKERS A BOOST OF ENERGY
In soaring Dubai temperatures of 42° celsius, Ric
Bokx, General Manager Middle-East, Paul van Vlijmen,
Sales Executive Middle-East and the rest of the team
came up with a genius and generous plan to help local
construction company, ALEC near Marina Gate, Dubai.
With their quick thinking, they put 120 boxes (1200
bananas) of yellow bananas to good use, they were
perfectly edible but had simply gone past their best for
supermarket sale.
Nearly 2000 workers on the Marina Gate building site,
tasked with working long hours in unbelievably hot
weather enjoyed an exceptionally welcome banana
delivery by our Fyffes partner delivery team - RSA
Logistics. Hungry workers were delighted with the
banana donation and no doubt it fuelled them with
energy for the big build.
What a fantastic team effort from Fyffes Dubai!

From 10 September we will be working on
the next edition of the Fyffes Times.
To make it an even better read, we need snippets of
news and stories from as many of our locations as
possible. It can be factual news about developments
and projects, stories about a local event, an
introduction to a new member of staff, even a story
about your hobby or out of work interest. And,
whatever the subject, photos always add to the appeal.
The deadline for any material to reach us is
Monday 15 October 2018. Please e-mail your
stories to Carolyn at [email protected].
