GIRL’S SOCCER

Last year’s 2016 Livingston High School Girls Soccer team will go down in the history books as one
of the most successful and accomplished teams in girls soccer and LHS sports history. The team nished
with a 19-1-1 record, suffering it’s only loss in the last game of the season against Ridge HS in the Group
IV seminal. Along the way, the 2016 team won the SEC – American division title and the Essex County
Tournament title without yielding a single goal! The team capped off its historic season with its third win over
rival Montclair HS when it captured the North I, Group IV sectional championship. The Lady Lancers nished
the 2016 season ranked 11th in the state by NJ.com (1st in Essex County) and ranked #7 in NJ and #50 in the
USA by topdrawersoccer.com.

This season, the 2017 seniors understand that the bar has been set VERY high, but they are excited
to create their own legacy with a new group of players who also possess tremendous talent to bring home
championships. During their four years at LHS, these nine young women have had a major impact on the
girls’ soccer program, both on and off the eld. These individuals bleed green and white and would love to
add even more championship hardware to their already impressive resumes and the trophy case at LHS.
Leading the way for the Lancers are seniors: Tori Belcuore (tri-captain), Christine Craitar, Nikki Eisen,
Ally Levitt, Jocelyn McCauley, Tara McCormack, Hannah Oliveira, Ashley Reuter (tri-captain), and Nikki
Schreiber. As team captains, Belcuore and Reuter lead by example with their skill, knowledge, and passion
for the game. Craitar, Levitt, McCauley, and Oliveira will lead a new look defense that will limit opponents’
chances will also starting the team’s attack. McCormack and Reuter make up the mideld and will look to
both support the defense and start the offense. Belcuore, Eisen, and Schreiber will help to power the team’s
high-powered offense and nd the back of the net early and often. The Lancers always pride themselves on
their defense, but this year it might be a potent offense that leads them to victory.

Supporting this year’s senior class is a group of highly skilled and talented juniors and sophomores.
Leading the way for the junior class is Nicole Kwoczka (tri-captain) – who was a 1st team All-Conference
and All-County keeper as a sophomore in 2016 (and is noted as a “player to watch” on NJ.com). Kwoczka,
along with fellow juniors Jenna Cappuccino, Morgan Darrow, and Sarah Miller will bolster the “spine” of the
formation and help to transition from defense to offense. 2016 all-conference midelder Kayla Parsons, now
a sophomore, will be asked ll many different niches based upon the needs of the team (score…add depth
to the mideld…and be a shutdown defender). These talented players, along with a number of their fellow
classmates and some highly skilled incoming freshmen, will compete mightily with the upperclassmen for key
varsity spots in 2017.

Head coach Paul Raiz is entering his fteenth season leading the Lady Lancers. Coach Raiz is
very fortunate to have a group of very knowledgeable and dedicated assistant coaches at his side. Coach
Brian Carr, now in his seventh year with the program, has completely immersed himself in all aspects of the
program and again help to guide the varsity squad. In her fth season, Coach Natalie Natale continues to
help grow the freshmen team and assist with the program. Entering her rst season back with the program,
Kate Schwindel will lead the junior varsity team. Kate, the 2010 Star Ledger NJ player of the year, guided
the soccer program to its rst ever state sectional title (ultimately nishing as Group IV runners-up) - also
winning ECT and conference titles that same season. Rounding out the coaching staff is second year
assistant Steven Brooks, who will provide an immense knowledge and love of the game to assist all levels of
the program.

As is tradition with the girls soccer program, the 2017 varsity squad has its sights set on some very
simple, yet lofty goals …winning championships! It should be another exciting year for our Lady Lancers,
so be sure to keep an eye out for them. The girl’s soccer program would like to wish the best of luck to all
the other sports programs. As always, the Lady Lancers appreciate all of your support and look forward to
seeing you at their games.

Joe Falcone was the fabric of the Township of Livingston. Wherever
he would go – the pool, Seymour’s, the Post Ofce, ShopRite, LHS

games – he was always warmly welcomed by all.
The Big L Club honored Joe with the Lancer #1 Fan Award for his life-

time support of the Lancer athletes in 2012.
However, The Big L Club and the Livingston Community was awarded

the bigger honor of having a resident named Joe Falcone.

LANCER GIRLS’ TENNIS

The 2017 Livingston Girls Tennis Team looks to be a factor in Super Essex Conference, Essex County
Tournament, Sectional and State Tournament competition. Senior Captains Abbie Bekov, Vivian Lin, and Pujan
Neopane lead a veteran team with the addition of two talented freshmen.

For the second consecutive season the singles lineup consists of junior Nicole Bazhenov, and
sophomores Emma Conforti and Brielle Schwartz. Bazhenov, Conforti, and Schwartz earned Super Essex All-
Conference honors along with senior Vivian Lin and junior Alicia Li.
Lin and Li were joined in the doubles lineup with Bekov, Neopane, and junior Komal Misra. Also seeing varsity
action in 2016 were juniors Winnie Zhu and Harley Scherago. Juniors Nanki Ahluwalia and Samantha Klein
have moved up to the varsity. Freshmen Emily Sze and Selena Zhu bring U.S. Tennis Association Tournament
experience, they will make an immediate contribution to the varsity.

The team once again will play in the Super Essex Conference with state powers and defending State
Champions Millburn and Newark Academy.
The Lancers are anxious to win the North I, Group IV Sectional Championship for the rst time since 2012 and
the annual “September Smash” which has alluded the team since 2013.
Coaches Elliot Lovi and Amanda Buyes have high expectations with a very dedicated, hard working group of
players.

Perhaps the biggest highlight of the season is the unveiling of the new Memorial Park Tennis Courts.
The original courts were built in 1950 with two additions, the last being 1961.

The Livingston Tennis Teams would like to thank the Livingston Town Council and the Livingston Board
of Education for joining together to make this one of the premier tennis facilities in New Jersey in its beautiful,
natural setting.

GIRL’S VOLLEYBALL

The 2017 Girls Varsity Volleyball is off to a good start during preseason and looking forward to
competing in the regular season. Last year, the varsity team had a 22-6 record with a split conference
title in the SEC American Division. This years team is made of 11 student athletes who are looking to
repeat as conference champions, as well as get back to the Essex County nals.
