WELCOME TO

GERMANY

Germany is a fairly large country. To the north lies
the Baltic Sea and, in the south, the Alps.
Located in the heart of Europe, it is surrounded by
nine neighboring countries: Denmark to the north,
the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and France
to the west. Switzerland and Austria are in the south.
It has a population of about 83 million people.
Germany is a parliamentary democracy with a prime
minister as the head of the executive branch.
The president is the head of state named

Oktoberfest began as the marriage ceremony between Prince Ludwig and Princess
Therese on October 12, 1810. All of the townspeople were invited to attend
the festival, which took place in the fields outside of the city gates. Following
the wedding, the fields were named Theresienwiese after the Princess, and
the party was such a hit that the townspeople asked King Ludwig to continue
the celebration the following year.
The original Oktoberfest takes place in Munich, Germany. It will be held from
September to October every year. This area hosts a space of 420,000 sq. ft.
and is easy to get to from central Munich.
They are divided into 3 main categories: beer tents, food stalls and souvenir shops.
And you always have to make reservations in groups of 8-10 people. The big tents
(holding 7,000 - 10,000 people at a time) are the most difficult to get into and often
close their doors by noon on Saturdays simply because they’re already full.
It’s nearly impossible to get into a big tent without a reservation on a busy day.
However, you can sometimes squeeze in with someone at a table outside and order
a beer to be served to the table where you sit.
In which people over the age of 16 will be able to drink beer or wine. If you want to
buy beer, you must be 18 years or older.

เทศกาลเบียร์แห่งชาติ (Oktoberfest) มีจุดเร่ิมต้นมาจากพิ ธีอภิเษกสมรสระหว่างเจ้าชายลุดวิกและ
เจ้าหญิงเทเรซาเมื่อวันที่ 12 เดือนตุลาคม พ.ศ. 2353 ชาวเมืองทุกคนได้รับเชิญให้เข้าร่วมงานเทศกาล
ซึ่งจัดขึ้น ที่ลานนอกประตูเมือง หลังจากพิ ธีอภิเษกสมรสแล้ว ลานนี้ก็ได้รับการตั้งช่ือว่า เทเรซา

when Germans are allowed to lose

music, and beer during this time.
In some cities, celebration is the biggest of the year. Carnival which starts the festival on
the 11th day of the 11th month of every year. It trumps Halloween, Christmas, or New
Year’s. Germans love rules, so it does not come as a surprise to find that there is also a
rule which allows Germans to go wild? Depending on the region you are in, you might not
notice anyone celebrating Carnival at all.
In Berlin, for example, you need to look hard for carnival celebrations, as they are not
known to many. In other regions, like in the Rheinland, carnival plays a significant role in
the culture, so you would have to be living under a rock to not notice this season. Every
region in Germany celebrates carnival in one way or another. Depending on the area you
live in, you might hear different names for this season. The common names for carnival in
Germany are Karneval, Fastnacht, and Fasching.
The celebrations in these big cities and all over the Rheinland are full of colorful
costumes, a lot of alcohol, joyful songs, and crazy parties. Not all of Germany, however,
celebrates carnival with ‘out of control parties. For example, in the south, the towns close
to the Black Forest celebrate carnival more traditionally. They use this time to reflect on
the simple life and to keep old traditions alive.
