Nouns

Nouns (คานาม) หมายถงึ สิ่งที่ใชเ้ รียกชอื่ คน สัตว์ ส่งิ ของ สถานที่ ได้แก่
คน : Mary, Tony, teacher, student, policeman, etc.
สัตว์ : tiger, horse, pig, lion, elephant, etc.
ส่งิ ของ : table, book, chair, computer, telephone, etc.
สถานท่ี : school, temple, market, hospital, house, etc.

คำนำมสำมำรถจำแนกได้หลำยประเภท ดังนี้

1. แบง่ ตามลกั ษณะการใช้ ไดแ้ ก่

1.1 Common Nouns (คานามทวั่ ไป) คือ คานามที่ใช้เรียกชอ่ื คน สตั ว์

สิ่งของ สถานท่ี โดยท่ัวๆ ไป ไม่ไดร้ ะบชุ ่ือช้ีเฉพาะเจาะจง เช่น

girl = เด็กผู้หญิง bird = นก

student = นักเรียน cat = แมว

animal = สตั ว์ book = หนงั สือ

1.2 Proper Nouns (คานามชีเ้ ฉพาะ) คือ ช่อื เฉพาะของคน สัตว์ ส่งิ ของ

สถานที่ มกั จะเปน็ คานามที่ขึ้นต้นด้วยตัวอกั ษรตัวใหญ่ เช่น

Thailand = ประเทศไทย Tony = โทนี่

Bangkok = กรุงเทพมหานคร America = อเมริกา

Trang = ตรงั Chao Phraya = เจ้าพระยา

2. แบ่งตามการนบั ได้แก่

2.1 Countable Nouns (คานามนับได้) แบง่ ออกเปน็ 2 รปู คอื

เอกพจน์ (Singular) ใช้เรียกคานามทสี่ ามารถนับได้ 1 จานวน เชน่

a girl = เด็กผ้หู ญิง 1 คน

an egg = ไข่ 1 ฟอง
a book = หนงั สือ 1 เล่ม
พหูพจน์ (Plural) ใชเ้ รียกคานามท่ีสามารถนบั ไดม้ ากกวา่ 1 จานวน เช่น
two girls = เด็กผูห้ ญงิ 2 คน
ten eggs = ไข่ 10 ฟอง
six books = หนงั สอื 6 เลม่

หลักกำรเติม -s หรือ -es ทำ้ ยคำ

เมอื่ คานามมีรปู เปน็ พหพู จน์ คานามนั้นมักจะเติม –s หรอื –es ท้ายคา โดยมี

หลกั ดงั นี้

1. คานามนบั ได้เอกพจน์โดยท่ัวไปมกั เตมิ –s ทท่ี า้ ยคาได้เลย เชน่

boy - boys = เดก็ ผ้ชู าย

elephant - elephants = ชา้ ง

student - students = นกั เรียน

ball - balls = ลกู บอล

car - cars = รถยนต์

2. คานามนบั ไดเ้ อกพจน์ท่ีลงท้ายดว้ ย s, ss, sh, ch, x, o ใหเ้ ตมิ –es

ทท่ี า้ ยคา เชน่

bus - buses = รถประจาทาง

glass - glasses = แกว้

church - churches = โบสถ์

box - boxes = กลอ่ ง

brush - brushes = แปรง

ข้อยกเว้น : คานามเอกพจน์ท่ีลงท้ายดว้ ย o แตห่ น้า o เป็นสระ (a, e, i, o, u)
ใหเ้ ตมิ -s ท่ีท้ายคา เชน่

radio - radios = วิทยุ

photo - photos = รูป
3. คานามนับไดเ้ อกพจน์ที่ลงท้ายดว้ ย y ใหเ้ ปลย่ี น y เปน็ i แล้วเติม –es
ทที่ า้ ยคา เช่น
country - countries = ประเทศ
baby - babies = เดก็ ทารก
lady - ladies = สภุ าพสตรี

ขอ้ ยกเว้น : คานามเอกพจน์ท่ีลงท้ายดว้ ย y แตห่ น้า y เปน็ สระ (a, e, i, o ,u)

ใหเ้ ตมิ -s ท่ที า้ ยคา เชน่

key - keys = กุญแจ

toy - toys = ของเลน่

day - days = วนั

4. คานามนับได้เอกพจน์ที่ลงท้ายด้วย f, fe ใหเ้ ปลี่ยน f, fe เปน็ v แล้วเติม
–es เช่น

leaf - leaves = ใบไม้
knife - knives = มีด
wife - wives = ภรรยา

ข้อยกเวน้ : คานามเอกพจน์บางคาทีล่ งท้ายดว้ ย f, fe แต่สามารถเตมิ –s

ไดเ้ ลย เช่น

handkerchief - handkerchiefs = ผ้าเชด็ หนา้

roof - roofs = หลงั คา

5. คานามนบั ไดเ้ อกพจน์บางตัวเม่อื เปลีย่ นเปน็ พหูพจน์จะเปลย่ี นรปู ไปเลย เช่น
man - men = ผชู้ าย
woman - women = ผู้หญงิ

child - children = เด็ก
goose - geese = ห่าน
mouse - mice = หนู
foot - feet = เทา้
ox - oxen = วัวตัวผู้
louse - lice = เหา

6. คานามนับได้เอกพจน์บางตัวมรี ูปเหมือนกนั ท้งั เอกพจน์และพหพู จน์ เช่น

fish = ปลา salmon = ปลาแซลมอน

sheep = แกะ deer = กวาง

7. คานามต่อไปน้มี ีรปู เป็นเอกพจน์เสมอ

news = ข่าว furniture = เคร่ืองเรือน

baggage = กระเปา๋ เดนิ ทาง information = ขอ้ มลู

knowledge = ความรู้ mathematics = คณิตศาสตร์

8. คานามต่อไปนมี้ ีรปู เป็นพหพู จนเ์ สมอ trousers = กางเกง
scissors = กรรไกร clothes = เสื้อผา้
glasses = แว่นตา shorts = กางเกงขาสน้ั
pajamas = ชดุ นอน

2.2 Uncountable Nouns (คานามนบั ไมไ่ ด้) เป็นคานามท่ไี ม่สามารถนบั เปน็

จานวนได้ มีรปู เอกพจน์เพยี งแค่รปู เดยี ว เชน่

sugar = น้าตาล water = น้า

coffee = กาแฟ rice = ขา้ ว

milk = นม soup = ซุป

ถา้ ต้องการจะนับปริมาณ หรอื จานวนของคานามนบั ไม่ได้ จาเปน็ ตอ้ งนาภาชนะมา
บรรจุ ใช้หนว่ ย ช่งั ตวง วัด หรอื ใช้หน่วยการวดั เป็นกลุ่มก้อน เปน็ ชนิ้ มาแสดงปรมิ าณ
เช่น

นาภาชนะมาบรรจุ เช่น

a bottle of milk = นม 1 ขวด
นม 2 ขวด
two bottles of milk = ชา 1 ถว้ ย
ชา 2 ถ้วย
a cup of tea =

two cups of tea =

ใชห้ นว่ ย ชงั่ ตวง วัด เชน่

a kilo of rice = ข้าว 1 กิโลกรัม

two kilos of rice = ข้าว 2 กโิ ลกรมั

a liter of water = นา้ 1 ลติ ร

two liters of water = น้า 2 ลติ ร

ใช้หน่วยการนับเปน็ กลมุ่ ก้อนหรอื เปน็ ช้นิ เชน่

a piece of paper = กระดาษ 1 แผ่น

two pieces of paper = กระดาษ 2 แผน่

a bar of chocolate = ช็อกโกแลต 1 แท่ง

two bars of chocolate = ชอ็ กโกแลต 2 แทง่

หมายเหตุ บางคร้ังคานามนบั ไม่ได้ ใช้ some นาหน้าได้ เชน่
