The Birth of Prophet
Musa a.s
Musa a.s was born in Egypt and was born into the tribe of Israel. The King of
Egypt, known as Firaun or Pharaoh, treated the Bani Israel badly. The Bani Israel
are said to have been favoured by Allah s.w.t. Firaun was a cruel king and the
Israelites suffered under his rule.
One day, Firaun had a dream that a boy would be born into the Bani Israel, and
that boy would one day kill Firaun. Firaun became frightened, and to avoid the
dream from coming true, he ordered his soldiers to kill all the baby boys born into
the Bani Israel.
After Musa a.s was born, his mother was terrified and worried that Firaun’s
soldiers would find and kill her baby boy. Allah s.w.t had a plan for the prophet,
He ordered his mother to place him in a wooden basket and allow it to float
downstream in the Nile River. Although it was hard for his mother to watch his son
drift away, she believed that Allah s.w.t would look after him.
Musa a.s’s mother sent her daughter to follow the basket. Eventually, the basket
washed up from the Nile River right near Firaun's palace. Someone at the palace
found the baby and took him to Asiyah, Firaun’s wife.
Asiyah was a kind woman, totally the opposite of Firaun. When she saw the baby,
she fell in love with him and asked Firaun to let her adopt him. Firaun agreed.
Asiyah sent her maids out to find a woman who could breastfeed baby Musa a.s.
Musa a.s rejected all the women who came forward. Finally, Musa a.s’s sister said
to Asiyah that she knew a woman who could feed the baby, but kept it a secret
that the woman was Musa a.s’s mother.
When Musa a.s’s mother began to feed him, he accepted her milk. Through Allah’s
mercy, Musa a.s’s mother who had placed her trust in Him and watched her baby
drift away down the Nile River, was finally reunited with her child. Since that day,
Musa a.s’s mother has become his wet-nurse.
Among the Mukjizat of Prophet Musa
a.s that is mentioned in the Al-Quran
1. Stick turns into snake
It is narrated that Firaun opposed Nabi Musa to prove his
prophethood. Upon Allah’s command, Nabi Musa threw
his stick on the ground and it turned into a snake. This
miracle is mentioned in Surah Al-Qasas verse 31:
“And [he was told], “Throw down your staff." But when he
saw it writhing as if it was a snake, he turned in flight and
did not return. [Allah said], "O Moses, approach and fear
not. Indeed, you are of the secure.”
2. Shining hand
3. After Nabi Musa was ordered to throw his stick which turned
into a snake, he was then ordered to insert his hand into his
garment and upon revealing it, it was shining a bright light.
This miracle is mentioned in Surah Al-Qasas verse 32:
“Insert your hand into the opening of your garment; it will
come out white, without disease. And draw in your arm close
to you [as prevention] from fear, for those are two proofs
from your Lord to Pharaoh and his establishment. Indeed,
they have been a people defiantly disobedient.”
Splitting the red sea
Nabi Musa was given this miracle by Allah when being approached
by Firaun and his army. Nabi Musa was commanded to strike the
sea with his stick. The sea was parted, revealing a path for Nabi
Musa and his people to walk through. This incident saved them
and destroyed Firaun and his army. This miracle is mentioned in
Surah Taha verse 77-78:
“And We had inspired to Moses, “Travel by night with My servants
and strike for them a dry path through the sea; you will not fear
being overtaken [by Pharaoh] nor be afraid [of drowning].”
“So Pharaoh pursued them with his soldiers, and there covered
them from the sea that which covered them,”
Challenges Prophet Musa
a.s had been through
Nabi Musa was separated from his mother when he was
still a newborn baby. The feeling of being separated from
your mother is unexplainable. Oh! How Nabi Musa’s mother
felt compelled to put her son alone in the basket because
anything bad can happen to your child if you leave them
alone. However, Allah being the best planner, has reunited
the mother with her child.
Allah has shown many miracles to the Bani Israel so that
those who witnessed it will believe in Allah after seeing the
signs of Nabi Musa’s prophethood, but many still deny it and
refuse to believe in Allah. Despite that, Nabi Musa remained
patient and never gave up in preaching to his people.
Lessons we can learn
from Prophet Musa a.s
TRY YOUR LEVEL BEST
- Prophet Musa a.s did not wait for the miracles to happen, he
kept trying his best to get rid of Firaun in every way possible.
- The lesson to be learned is to always keep trying and not sit
idly for miracles to happen.
ALWAYS BELIEVE IN ALLAH
- When prophet Musa a.s and his people approached the sea
and Firaun was approaching them from behind, many among
his people lost hope that they would survive. However, prophet
Musa a.s kept faith in Allah and because of this, the sea
parted and made a way for prophet Musa a.s and his people.
- We might have to face difficult times in our life but we should
never lose hope in Allah, we should stay firm in believing that
Allah will help us out even in the greatest difficulty faced by us.
PROTECT OURSELVES FROM SINS
- Allah instructed prophet Musa a.s to move to another place
along with his people because they could not practice their
religion freely in Egypt.
- We should protect ourselves from things and places that put
our Iman at risk or lead us towards committing sins.
