Witticisms "Neck pain and arm pain were two things I suffered with for over 30 years. It affected my sleep
and work life and bothered me daily. I also couldn’t move my arm in certain motions. I went to
other doctors, and the pain would become manageable but never fully went away. That all
changed when I met the Experience Family Chiropractic team at a local event. After starting care,
the knots and pain in my neck were gone and have yet to come back; my range of motion in my arm
has improved as well. I wish I had started chiropractic care sooner! The Experience Family
Chiropractic staff is great and the office is beautiful; I definitely recommend chiropractic care to
others." - Kathleen

One afternoon, a lawyer was riding in
his limousine when he saw two men
along the road-side eating grass. Dis-
turbed, he ordered his driver to stop
and he got out to investigate.

He asked one man, "Why are you eat-
ing grass?" "We don't have any mon-
ey for food," the poor man replied.
"We have to eat grass."

"Well then, you can come with me to
my house and I'll feed you," the law-
yer said. "But sir, I have a wife and
two children with me. They are over
there, under that tree." "Bring them
along," the lawyer replied.

Turning to the other poor man he
stated, "You may come with us, also."
The second man, in a pitiful voice,
then said, "But sir, I also have a wife
and children with me!" "Bring them
all as well," the lawyer answered.

What’s going on in Cape Coral? Once under way, one of the poor fel-

lows turned to the lawyer and said,

How do I get 6-pack abs?

This is the biggest question I get from everyone. How do I get a 6-pack?
Or just get rid of my “beer belly” or “muffin top”?

It is going to take some work and dedication, but it can be done. It is not
too late!

1. Eat Clean! The number one thing is to cut out the sugar! It’s not fat
that makes you fat, but sugar. Sodas, sweets, juices, candy, alcohol, etc.
are some of the obvious sugars. But if you eat too many carbs, like pasta,
bread, chips, these will also be converted to sugar if they are not burned
off. 80% of the time, try and eat clean!

2. Exercise! This increases our metabolism and will help burn off the ex-
tra fat. The best form of exercise to do is high intensity workouts, which
skyrocket your metabolism and burn calories up to 48 hours after you
workout.

3. Strength Training! Try and incorporate some type of weight training,
along with your cardio workouts! This, too, will help gain lean muscle,
which in return will keep your metabolism burning that fat!

4. Do Core Exercises! Core exercises include working your abdominal area,
as well as your back muscles. One of the best core exercises is holding a
plank.

Hold the plank for at least 1 minute a total of 3-5 times. If it’s hard at first,
work up to it. Start with 30 seconds and work your way up the minute.

Home & Garden
Welcome back to your happy place! I’m
Shelbie with “Goddess Grow Ops,” a local
mobile gardening business and I’m here to
help make self sustainability a part of your
daily routine!

This month we’re going to talk about com-
posting and why it’s so beneficial for you
and your family, as well as our environment.

For starters.....Not only do we throw our use-
ful edible scraps away, but, as Americans,
we waste over 24% of organic matter in the
trash every day. That’s about 1.3 pounds
per person per day! If you’re saying WOW,
you’re right. That’s a lot of scraps!

Why That’s a lot of waste just piling up in land

fills when it could be piled in your back
yard and reused to make your plants and
vegetables extra happy and healthy. So...
why not actually use it your own back
yard? Using your compost adds micro
and macronutrients, helps pH, prevents
diseases, breaks down toxins, and im-
proves soil structure.

“I only feel angry when I see waste. When I
Compost? see people throwing away things we could

use.” —Mother Teresa

I’m going to show you 3 easy ways to
start composting inside and outside your
house. Here is a small starter list of things
you probably use daily in your house and
probably also throw away daily.

Compostable items: egg shells, vegeta-
bles scraps, used coffee and coffee filters,
fruit scraps, cooked pasta and leftover
pasta sauce, cooked rice, stale crackers,
old herbs and spices, paper plates, paper
towel rolls, toilet paper rolls. The list goes
on and on and there are lots of sources
all over the Internet to help you out if you
ever feel overwhelmed or have questions.
14 RIVERSTYLEMAG.COM

Now for different ways to get started!!

Indoor bucket: All you need is a 5 gallon
bucket, a bag of dirt and your veggie scraps.

Now, you may be thinking “stinky, dirty and
what about the bugs in my house?” The trick
is to keep the scraps fully covered with dirt,
so stuff starts to break down right away. Put
a little dirt in the bucket, add scraps, mix up,
then add a little new dirt to cover any ex-
posed veggies. Repeat the process daily un-
til the bucket is full. Feel free to add a lid,
but constantly stirring and oxygenating the
soil is very important to the decomposing of WE DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME EVERY TIME!
scraps.

Outdoor bin or pile: (this may attract wild-
life, so think about your setup area.) This
is a fun time to experiment with what you
FTD Master Florist
want to use. Maybe wood or even a plastic
dram? Build your own compost bin off the 1545 DEL PRADO BOULEVARD S., CAPE CORAL, FL 33990
ground? (also a good way to keep away
wildlife.) Compost exposed to the Sun and (239) 574-4000
heat breaks down much faster. Do some re-
search online and find the DIY setup that’s
right for you.

Purchase a composting bin: You can find
them at the store or online. They are pretty
cheap, too! They cost anywhere from $50-
$100, all the way up to crazy expensive, but
they are super easy and worth every penny!
I highly recommend them.

Balor to get donation of body armor

Fort Myers Police Department’s K9 Balor will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks
to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.
K9 Balor’s vest is sponsored by Kimberly Shader of Orlando, and will be embroidered with
the sentiment “Born to Love - Trained to Serve - Loyal Always”. Delivery is expected within
eight to ten weeks.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c (3) charity located in East Taunton, MA. Their mission is
to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement
and related agencies throughout the United States. The non-profit was established in 2009
to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially lifesaving body armor for their
four-legged K9 officers. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provided over 3,300
protective vests, in 50 states, through private and corporate donations, at a value of $5.7
million dollars.
The program is open to dogs actively employed in the U.S. with law enforcement or related
agencies who are certified and at least 20 months of age. New K9 graduates, as well as K9s
with expired vests, are eligible to participate.
The donation to provide one protective vest for a law enforcement K9 is $950.00. Each vest
has a value between $1,744 – $2,283 and a five-year warranty, and an average weight of 4-5

National Police Week was observed in our Nation’s Capital in May. In atten-
dance were members of the Fort Myers Police Department and families of
the officers the department has lost.

Attending on behalf of the department and themselves were Deputy Chief
Randall Pepitone, Lt. Roger Valdivia, Sgt. Domonic Zammit, K-9 Officer Ezra
Padgham, Marine Officer Keith Curr, Detective Nicholas Toma, and Officer
Kristin Capuzzi.

In addition, family of Officers Daniel M. Starks, Andrew Widman and Adam
Jobbers-Miller were also in attendance.

In 1962 President John F Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as Police Officer’s Me-
morial Day and the week it falls in as National Police Week.
Every year, fallen officers’ names are inscribed on a memorial wall; this year
Officer Adam Jobbers-Miller’s name was added. Officer Jobbers-Miller was
killed in the line of duty on July 28, 2018. National Police Week ran from May
12 – May 18, 2019.

The members of the Fort Myers Police Department hope that all Americans
take a moment to remember those Law Enforcement professionals who paid
the ultimate sacrifice.

‘healthy not hungry KIds’ camPaIgn

The Cape Coral Caring Center has kicked off the second annual ‘Healthy Not Hungry Kids’ campaign to help replenish its
food supply as season ends and the school year draws to a close.

A 501(c)(3), the nonprofit organization assists residents who do not have sufficient resources to maintain a suitable lifestyle,
including food and shelter.

According to Feeding America, one in five children go to bed hungry. The campaign, aimed at helping Cape Coral children
not become a statistic, provides kids with a ‘Healthy Not Hungry‘ bag containing a variety of prepared and unprepared
foods. The kids bags hold approximately $30 of food, which feeds a child for about one week.

Items needed for the campaign include:
• Peanut butter
• Jelly
• Product
• Yogurt
• Shelf stable milk
• Macaroni
• Canned pasta
• Soup
• Juice boxes
• Cereal and oatmeal packets
• Crackers
• Granola bars
• Pop-Tarts®
• Fruit cups
• Raisins
• Pudding cups

Established in 1990, support of the Caring Center comes in the form of food and monetary donations. The organization turns
every dollar pledged into $8 worth of food. Last year, the campaign served over 1,200 children throughout the community.

Helping to get the campaign started off right, the Cape Coral Community Foundation’s Giving Alliance of Women gave a
$5,000 grant to use toward the purchase of the Healthy Not Hungry Kids Bags. The Cape Coral Caring Center hopes to raise
$25,000 in monetary donations and collect 25,000 pounds of food.

Four Cape Coral locations have been established to accept food donations:
• Cape Coral Caring Center
• Frank and Sons Moving & Storage
• Modern Woodmen of America
• Quality Automotive Center

For monetary donations, send a check or money order to: Cape Coral Caring Center, 4645 SE 15th Avenue, Cape Coral, FL
33904. Donations can be made online at CapeCoralCaringCenter.org.

The campaign will run through June. For more information, call (239) 945-1927.
