CHAPTER 1 : SCHOOL BUIDLING

Tunku Abdul Rahman (S.T.A.R) began on January 2, 1957 but is known as
the Malay Secondary School, Ipoh (M.S.S.). At its
Son of Al Haj, inception, the school temporarily superimposed on the
Opening of the Tunku five buildings that were once used by the Malay
Abdul Rahman School Regiment as an administrative, housing and stores
located in Baeza Avenue, Ipoh. After the building was

This school began to accept students on Sunday, January FIGURE 3 :
13, 1957 a total of 200 students aged 14 and 15 years old Tunku Abdul Rahman School (Star)
and placed in five-degree level 1. They come from every Ipoh, First Principal Tan Sri Hamdan
state in the Federation of Malaya after completing his
studies at degree-level degrees in special six centers, Sheikh Tahir
namely Penang, Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lipis, Kota
Bahru, Johor Bahru. However, the Headmaster of the ACCESSION NO:
School, Mr. Hamdan Sheikh Tahir began work on 2001/0049518W
January 2, 1957, and 15 teachers started work on January
7, 1957. In the first week of March 1957, another 160 7
students aged 13 and 14 reported. They have passed the
Malay School and put in four degrees Special Rate. They
use the syllabus prescribed by the Ministry of Education.
At the Teachers' Meeting on February 20, 1957, they
agreed to use red and white as school emblems and 'Life
Sciences' as their school motto.

In addition to focusing on curriculum

development, S.T.A.R. also emphasized student

engagement in co-curriculum. In the early

stages, students were divided into four teams

using the Yellow House, Red House, Blue

House, and White House led by their home

teachers and assistants. These students are

trained in various sports activities such as

sports, gymnastics and exercise in the evening.

They were also given permission by the

Anderson School Principal to use the school

field to play football, hockey and rugby twice a

week. Sports matches between the teams were

also held. To date, STAR has not only

maintained its academic and academic

reputation, but has produced successful

professionals in various fields such as politics, FIGURE 5:

FIGURE 12 : STAR Ipoh has been awarded the first full boarding school in
STAR`s student excellent achievement in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia 1957, they also been awarded as the Cluster School of
Excellence Awarded in 2009 and the High School of the Year
(SPM) Awarded in 2011. In the same year, the school also was
awarded with the Sekolah Berprestasi Tinggi (SBP) or High

COBRATASHA RUGBY

In addition to the great achievements in education, the

students of this school also excellent in sports. Firstly is

rugby. STAR was Perak state rugby champion for many

years, culminating in winning the Mori Trophy in 1968.

Many of the players went on to don state and national

colors. The rugby's team battle cry of "Cobra tasha, Cobra

tasha, shina shina STAR" is the embodiment of the school's

spirit. In 2016, Cobratasha had become the Champion of FIGURE 13 :
Malaysia Super Six School Rugby. They are also one of the STAR`s Rugby team “COBRATASHA” win the tournament

Secondly is hockey. Anaconda is the STAR's FIGURE 14 :

excellent and strongest hockey team

AND ENGLISH DEBATE CLUB AND SOCIETY

The English Debate Club and Society which is the english

national and international debate competitions.

The Keluarga Debat Bahasa Melayu is the Malay
debating club of STAR Ipoh had won in numerous
competitions in Malaysia. The All-STAR Debating Union
is one of the most successful and excellent clubs in the
school.

STAR WIND ORCHESTRA

Surprisingly, STAR Ipoh also popular and achieve very good FIGURE 16 :
rapport in music. They have their own orchestra group which STAR`s WIND Orchestra performing their best
is won and make a show in all over the country. The first
wind orchestra competition for Star Wind
Orchestra (STARWINDS) was held in Putrajaya. These boys
are super passionate and dedicated to their craft, they juggle
their studies with band practice and training daily. Unlike
other premier boarding schools that are equipped with new
instruments and lots of funding, the wind instruments Star
Winds Orchestra use their own and self-funding instruments
and budgets for practice and competitions. Last year at the
Malaysian International Music Arts Festival (MIMAF) 2018,
they were awarded Gold with Honors (the highest award for
the competition, which they won the year before in 2017).
They also managed to get 1st Runner Up.

Islam collections succeed in defeating Sekolah Menengah Sains Johor, FIGURE 17:
Kluang in the final competition of the “Kejohanan Perbahasan 1983 Debate Competition in Auditorium Dewan Bandaraya Kuala
(Bahasa Malaysia)”. Kolej Islam Kelang as opposition represented by
Idris Haji Ahmad, Muhamed Abdul Karim bin Wahab and Haidar Haji Lumpur
Dziyauddin meanwhile, Sekolah Menengah Sains Johor as proponents,
represented by Ahmad Maslan, Mohd. Nasir Abdullah and Sharul Abdul ACCESSION NO :
Rashid. The title of the discussion is "Pembangunan Fizikal Yang 2001/0048527W
Berleluasa Membawa Lebih Keburukan Kepada Keadaan Persekitaran
Dan Kehidupan Manusia". Foe competition in English, Sekolah Tuanku
Abdul Rahman (Star), Ipoh succeed defeating Maktab Melayu Kuala
Kangsar. Minister of education, the chairman of the final debate
competition, Datuk Dr. Sulaiman Haji Daud also come to see the
competition. Gifts have been granted by Datin Hajjah Naimah Haji
Hasbi.

Muhammad Syahmi Syahir bin Suhaimi Syahir bin Suhaimi of the HOKI sport. Among his highest
achievements was representing the State of Perak in the National 14th

The Curriculum Star Award 2016 is an award created to
recognize the best students in the curriculum including Clubs and
Associations and Uniformed Units. The winner in 2016 was
Muhammad Afif bin Mohd Hasni Nazhan of Malay Debate Team.
Among her top achievements were the MUSLEH International Debate,
the Prime Minister's Cup and the Malaysian Schools Debate in 2016.
Congratulations to Afif from HITAM Home.

Nazhan was selected as the finalist of the final match.

STAROBA, as an association of former students of STAR FIGURE 21:

STAR plays an important role in looking after the welfare and common 25
interests of the members, collaborate with the Parent-Teachers Association and the
School Administrators in making sure that certain objectives are met.

The most important thing that has happened is the willingness of the former
students or “old boys” to “giving back to the school” in term of various contributions
to the school, whether it is for maintenance of facilities, betterment of infrastructures
or simply providing materials and moral supports to STAR and the students when
needed. STAROBA, as an association, is managed by a Committee that is elected for
two-year terms. Currently there are more than 3000 registered members of
STAROBA.

FAIZAL OTHMAN

With experience spanning almost three decades, Faizal Bin

Othman specializes in water and wastewater utilities management,

business and operations strategy for utilities management and large scale

infrastructure management.

He started his career as Civil Engineer in 1991 with SMHB Sdn

Bhd, before moving to Thames Water Malaysia Sdn Bhd as Planning

Engineer. With Thames Water Malaysia, he was involved in the

coordination planning for Technical Services to SAJH, upgrading the

billing system of Sabah Water Department and providing strategic

support to Timatch Water.

In 2003, he moved to Ranhill Group of Companies where he led

business expansion activities in Malaysia, China and India. Some of the

projects he secured include Madinah City Water and Wastewater

As the Group Chief Operating Officer, he was a key player during

subsidiary operations, maintaining a turnover of RM1billion for seven

AWANG ADEK HUSSIN

Datuk Dr. Awang Adek Bin Hussin presented his credentials to

serve as ambassador of Malaysia to the United States to the State

Department on April 11, having served as a senator in the Malaysian

Parliament since April 2009 and deputy finance minister since April

2013. Ambassador Awang Adek won the Bachok Parliamentary seat

election in 2004 and was then appointed deputy rural and regional

development minister.

He began his career as a lecturer at the Universiti Sains

IDRIS JUSOH

Idris Jusoh or popularly known as "Yeh" (Yeh is just a shortform for FIGURE 24 :
Idris, most Kelantanese call people with the name Idris as Yeh and Jertih, Idris Jusoh
at least according to some folklores, used to belong to Kelantan) attended
elite school (STAR) from 1968 to 1973. SOURCE :

Yeh was in Green House. He was a school prefect too. He was one of
the best students in STAR during his time. Those days, best students were 29
sent to Australia for matriculation even before the MCE(SPM) results were
known. And he was one of them.

He came back to Malaysia before completing his studies in Australia
because his father died. Later on he attended USM and was at one time
USM's "overall best student".

Yeh became famous when he won Terengganu for Barisan Nasional
from PAS in 2004 and he became the state MB. PAS, the incumbent party,
won only 4 seats while Idris-led BN conquered 28.
He was MARA chairman until his recent appointment as Minister of
Education II. Yeh is married to a Kelantanese lady whom he met in USM.

ANNUAR MUSA

Annuar Musa, born 18 May 1956 is FIGURE 26 :
a Malaysian politician and the member of the Parliament of Annuar Musa
Malaysia for the Ketereh constituency. He also currently
serving as Minister of Federal Territories since 10 March 2020. SOURCE :
Annuar is the former minister of Rural Development, now http://www.astroawani.com/berita-malaysia/tan-sri-annuar-musa-
known as the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, has
been a division head in United Malays National dilantik-menteri-wilayah-persekutuan-233051
Organisation (UMNO) for 20 years in addition to serving over
14 years as a member of the supreme council (MT) and as a 31
minister for almost 10 years.

He was the president of Kelantan FA (KAFA) from 2009
until his resignation on 8 November 2016 but stay as its
adviser. In 2018, he was nominated for the new FAM
presidency role by Kuala Lumpur FA, reported in a Fox Sports
Asia article. But he withdraw from the presidency race again.
He now the current Malaysian Minister of Federal Territories
since 10 March 2020..
