Academic Success Workshops are offered each semester on topics such as Time
Management, Test-Anxiety, Note-Taking Skills, and Communication Skills. Online
workshops are also available.
Success Coaching is available in first-year Residence Halls, the Tutoring Center,
and in Old Main 102. Peer success coaches assist with study strategies, time-
management, and other academic skills.
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an academic assistance program that utilizes
regularly-scheduled, informal review sessions in which students compare notes,
discuss readings, and predict test items. Available in Biology 1400, CHEM 1402
and PSYC 1300.
Student Success Challenge is available for first-time entering Freshmen who are Pell
Grant eligible. Those who complete 5 events are eligible for a scholarship.
The UCAN Program (“Unlocking College Academics Now”) provides students on
first academic suspension the opportunity to continue their enrollment while
engaging in workshops and small groups sessions.
First 2 Go Awareness Week raises awareness of the challenges faced by first-
generation college students, and promotes resources available to first gen
students. Faculty and staff are invited to show their support by wearing their First 2
Go button, and sharing their own success stories.

Center for Writing and Communication
The Center for Writing and Communication (CWC) guides students through the composing process for any
writing or communication project or presentation, for any class, at any stage of the process. If it has to do with
writing and communication they can help. Appointments must be made online.

Tutoring
UCA offers centralized, free peer tutoring for all Core courses and most upper-level math and science
courses through the Tutoring Services Center. The Center also offers online tutoring, as well as
computers and laptops for individual study, printing, and treadmill desks. Information on additional
departmental tutoring services can also be found at uca.edu/success.
University College
University College assists returning students and students with academic need in making a successful transition
into college life. University College offers transitional courses in math, reading, and writing, and hosts the First-

First-Year Seminars (FYS)
All first-year students are required to complete a First-Year Seminar course as part of their Core requirements.
These courses fulfill a specific Core area requirement, and emphasize written and oral communication
skills. Some sections of FYS also include an FYS Peer
Mentor, who assists new students in making a
successful transition to UCA.

Mapworks
Skyfactor Mapworks™ is a tool where students can
evaluate their transition to college and identify campus
resources, including specific faculty and staff, to improve their overall experience.

Service-Learning & Volunteerism
Service-learning courses are offered across the university and connect course
content with meaningful community service. Outside of your academic curriculum,
you have the opportunity to serve with dozens of community partners in central
Arkansas. Students who log service-learning and volunteer hours are eligible for
recognition such as monthly giveaways, the Bears Serve Challenge (logging 30+
hours in a year), and the community service graduation cord (logging 100+ hours

Library
Torreyson Library provides both research and recreational reading materials.
Research Coaches are available to help student with projects. The library provides
seating for over 1000, in a variety of settings from individual study carrels to group
study rooms, and is open 24/5. The library’s collection includes almost one million
titles in a variety of physical and electronic formats. Interlibrary loan services make it
possible to expand access to resources not available in Torreyson’s collections. In
addition to two computer labs with 101 desktop computers, 5 networked printers, 3
copiers, and 6 scanners available, the library circulates 60 laptop computers and 30
engineering calculators, and provides projection equipment where students may

Diversity
The Office of Diversity and Community provides multiple services to enhance the
academic and personal success of students from underrepresented populations,
including the Minority Mentorship Program, the Black Male Achievement
Challenge (B-MAC), the Latino/Hispanic Outreach, and PRISM Alliance. The

Academic Advising
Advisors work with students to determine their academic goals and develop a plan
of study that follows the Academic Map (AMAP) for the student's chosen major.
First-year and sophomore students are primarily advised by professional advisors in
the Academic Advising Center (AAC). Student athletes work with advisors in
Athletic Academic Advising. Juniors and seniors are assigned to faculty advisors in

Degree Works
Ellucian Degree Works™ is a comprehensive academic advising, transfer
articulation, and degree audit solution that aligns students, advisors, and institutions
to a common goal: helping students graduate on time. Through Degree Works™,
students and advisors can review and plan a student's academic progress. UCA
students access Degree Works™ through myUCA.
GradesFirst
Students use this campuswide system to schedule appointments and communicate
with advisors, peer coaches, and faculty. See link in myUCA.
Registrar’s Office
The Registrar maintains student academic files, the
Academic Calendar, FERPA waivers, schedule of
classes, final exam schedules, transcripts, and
applications for graduation.

The DRC works with students, faculty, and staff to create an accessible and inclusive
environment so all our students have full access to UCA classrooms, programs, and
events, and can maximize their college experience. Students wishing to utilize DRC

Financial Aid
The Student Financial Aid Office assists students in accessing aid programs in
order to achieve their educational goals. Programs include student and parent
loans, federal and state grants, and scholarships. Each student is assigned a
Financial Aid Counselor who is available for consultations and questions.

The UCA Student Financial Aid Office works with students to coordinate
institutional, state, and private scholarship awards. Information on each of these

Residential Colleges/Honors College
UCA’s Living/Learning Community program includes five Residential Colleges, the
Norb O. Schedler Honors College, and the Minton Commuter College. Learning
communities provide students an environment for integrating learning into daily life
through small classes (some in a student’s residence hall!), academic programming,
and on-site faculty and peer mentors.

Student Life
Student Life provides opportunities for learning, leadership, community building,
creative expression, volunteerism, mentoring, and much, much more.
UCA offers over 200 student organizations, clubs, and recreational activities to help
students engage in campus life, and to become active members of the UCA
community. Student organizations, (including the
student activities board) hold regular activities
throughout the year, including guest lecturers,
dances, comedians, concerts and novelty events.

Student Government Association
The Student Government Association (SGA) is the primary representative voice for
UCA students. SGA formulates policies and allocates student activity fees to
student organizations and university departments. SGA also works closely with
administration on issues that directly affect UCA student, giving students the chance

Health and Wellness
Health Clinic
The Student Health Clinic is staffed with a physician and 4 nurse practitioners to
help diagnose, treat and monitor your health needs. Treatment of minor illnesses
or injuries, some chronic illnesses, allergy shots ordered by a private physician,
blood pressure monitoring, crutch loan, education about diagnosis, simple
laceration repair, peak flow measurement, updrafts, and pulmonary function tests
are all provided to students free of charge.
