ECU Health Pharmacy Services Annual Report FY22

Summary & Looking to the Future
2022 has been a very challenging, yet productive year. ECU Health Pharmacy Division has once
again risen to overcome significant obstacles in the past 12 months to insure great
pharmaceutical care to the people of Eastern North Carolina. Notable Pharmacy contributions
include: facilitating adequate staffing in the setting of acute on chronic personnel shortages,
successful provision of critical medications in an environment of brittle supply chains, initiation
of state-of-the art technologies, caring for an increasingly ill patient population and deepening
involvement in educational and scholarly endeavors. Although it has been a tough year, the
challenges and resulting efforts have further shaped our team’s character, commitment and
ability to provide exemplary care to our patients in the years to come.
What does the future hold for ECU Health Pharmacy? One of the challenges we continue to
face is how to optimize medication therapy in light of diminishing personnel and financial
resources, increased patient acuity and rapidly changing health care conditions. Aligning with
our strategic framework, ECU Health Pharmacy will focus on workforce development,
ambulatory pharmacy services expansion, growth of our 340b footprint, and pharmacy division
standardization over the next fiscal year. Pharmacy plans to leverage our new relationship with
East Carolina School of Medicine in accomplishing these goals.
