BIOGRAPHY

Tharani Alagesan is the eldest of three children of Mr.
and Mrs. Alagesan Alagappan and Thiruchelvi
Ramasamy. Tharani was born on a breezy Saturday
afternoon on the 10th of January, 2004, in Universiti
Malaya Specialist Centre and later had a younger brother
in 2005 and was accompanied by her younger sister in
2008 to complete the family. Tharani Alagesan or most
warmly known as Tharani started her education at REAL
Kids Kajang Prima at the age of 4. Registered at SK
Convent Kajang, Tharani started her primary school in
class 1 Melur in 2011. Ever since primary school, Tharani
has enjoyed reading as both her parents encouraged her
with rewarding story books and it became her favourite
hobby. Tharani loves reading books from J.K Rowling
dan Rainbow Rowell. These books brought her to
question the amazing things that happens in life and the
world of sorcery and magic.

Besides reading. Tharani also loves playing chess and
enjoys swimming. Although she does not consider herself
to be a good chess player, playing chess has allowed her
to express her emotions and has gained a lot of
knowledge on critical thinking. Her parents noticed her
passion in playing chess and encouraged her to join
multiple chess tournaments. Ever since, she has been
actively participating in chess tournament during the
weekends. Tharani also loves spending her Sundays
swimming as it makes her feel relaxed after a hectic
week. She is not too much of an outdoor sports person so
swimming was her only sports activity.

In the year 2014, Tharani was crowned the Tokoh
Nilam in her school and gained recognition for her
love of books. She then represented her school in
2015, for the Pemilihan Tokoh Nilam Zon Kajang and
has successfully continued her journey in this
competition till Nationals and won fourth place in
2016. Tharani believes that the reason behind her
success was her books, her parents and her teacher
advisor. She believes that this competition was a
platform for her to bring out the best of her knowledge
she gained through reading, not only story books but
all reading materials which well-equipped her with
abundance of knowledge. Because of the recognition
Nilam brought her, she was then crowned Tokoh
Harapan Kanak-Kanak and Tokoh Nilam SK Convent
Kajang in 2016. Scoring straight As in her UPSR
added a feather in her cap.

She continued her secondary education at SMK
Convent Kajang. Now, Tharani spends most her time
playing chess, listening to music and not forgetting
her reading. She enjoys going to school and meeting
her friends as they always make her smile and laugh.
She considers her friends to be her pillar of strength as
they always motivate her to strive in both curricular
and co-curricular activities. In secondary school,
Tharani has been actively involved in poetry writing
and poetry recitation and was the State Champion for
poetry recital in the year 2019. Poetry allows her to
express her emotions in words. She considers herself
to have a different way of thinking and expresses her
thoughts through words. Reading has armed her with
an array of vocabulary which helps a great deal in
poetry writing. She still manages to read at least for an
hour or two in between her hectic school days. She
believes that reading helps her travel, without moving
her feet…

MY FAMILY

Tharani Alagesan was born in Kuala Lumpur and grew up in
Kajang. Her father, Alagesan Alagappan was born is Kajang,
Selangor in 1970 whereas her mother, Thiruchelvi Ramasamy
was born in 1971 in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. Tharani’s father,
Mr. Alagesan works at Splunk Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. as a regional
director. He is considered to be someone who is very familiar
with IT and technology. Besides that, Mr. Alagesan is a very
kind-hearted man and loves helping people. He often says that we
should always help people even if it means losing something that
we want. He believes that blessings comes from people who
appreciate our help. He also says that a good deed would never
be forgotten and will help us at the most needed time. During the
weekends, he spends most of his time reading the newspaper and
watching the news as he always says that one should not only be
book smart but also have knowledge about the surrounding.
Apart from that, he loves bringing his family to try out new food
and restaurants and believes that food brings the family closer.

Moving on, Tharani’s mother, Mdm. Thiruchelvi Ramasamy
works as an English Language teacher at SMK Jalan Bukit. She
teaches the upper secondary students and adores her career. She
believes that teaching is the most noble profession as it the
mother to all other profession. Mdm. Thiru considers all her
students to be her very own child and has an emotional
attachment with them all. She always gives her best while
teaching as she would want her own children to have dedicated
teachers too because what goes around comes around. Mdm.
Thiru loves housekeeping during her free time as she always
wants everything to be spik and span. She believes good aura
comes from a clean surrounding. Besides that, she loves cooking
and feeding her family. She always wakes up in the morning to
prepare lunch before going to school and makes breakfast for
Tharani and her siblings.

Tharani’s brother, Ishwaar Alagesan is a
fifteen-year-old boy who studies at SMK
Jalan Empat, Bandar Baru Bangi. Ishwaar
is considered to be a very brilliant boy as
he always aces in his exams and makes his
parents proud. Besides that, he is actively
involved in STEM based co-curricular
activities and has travelled aboard to
present his findings. He too like the sister,
writes poetry and is a good Public
Speaker. Tharani shares a very close
relationship with her brother as they have
a very close age gap. On the other hand,
Tharani’s sister, Harini Alagesan is a
twelve-year-old girl who is completing her
last year in primary school at SK Convent
Kajang. She is the head prefect and is
considered to be someone very responsible
and an excellent leader. She shines in her
very own way and is very outspoken too.
Her parents are always proud of her and
she never fails to make us smile and laugh.
She is the clown of the house and can wipe
every frown away.

AMBITION

Tharani wants to become a lawyer in the future.
She believes being a lawyer can help many people
get the justice that they deserve. She believes that
everyone should be given equal rights, no matter if
it’s men or women. She considers herself to be a
feminist and thinks that women should be given
equal rights as they are always looked down and
not taken into account. She visions to make
improvement to the laws imposed to create a more
peaceful world. She believes that laws are the
back bone of the world and no one can disobey the
law. Thus, changes in the law should happen
following the evolution of time. People often ask
her, why does she envision to be a lawyer? After
all she’s a Science student. She confidently
answers that no knowledge would go to waste and
her knowledge in the Science field would help her
in multiple cases as the evolution in Science
effects the world in a big scale nowadays.

Her parents always encourage her to follow her
dreams as they think that she would become a
successful lawyer. Being an outspoken person that
she is, the law profession also allows her to
express her thoughts and contribute her rational
ideas for the betterment of the country or the
world someday in the future. They encourage her
to read on interesting cases that is happening or
has happened in the country and often ask her for
her opinion and how she thinks the particular case
should be handled.

Tharani has followed her auntie, who is a lawyer,
multiples times to court to experience a real-life
prosecution and her dream of becoming a lawyer
deepens. She always has serious conversations
with her auntie about the law field and told her
that she was always ready to help Tharani dreams
to become a successful lawyer one day. To start
off, she often handles the court room dramas at
home; solving the feud between her younger
brother and sister. “If there were no bad people
there would be no good lawyers,” she believes.

HOBBY

Reading has always been Tharani’s favourite past-time,
ever since she was in primary school. Being a thoughtful
and inquisitive girl, reading has always accompanied her.
Whenever she has a doubt or question that bothers her,
she finds books related to the topic and reads them. She
often shares her opinion on things with her mother. Her
mother says that Tharani has a very different way of
thinking and she’s one of a kind. Tharani always wants to
act differently and says that we don’t live to please people
around us. She says that life as an experiment ground and
we’re allowed to experiment as we wish. Reading has
made Tharani a very intellectual person and has
developed critical thinking. Her parents encourage her
passion in reading by buying her all the books that she
wants and listen and accepts her opinions though it may
differ from the perspective of the society sometimes.

Besides reading, Tharani loves playing chess and spends
most of her time practicing it. She started off by playing
with her father and brother at home. Chess does not
require as much physical strength but it demands more
brain power. Tharani attends chess class every Saturday to
improve her chess skills and to plan better strategies while
playing. She also represents her school in district level
chess competitions and other chess competitions during
the weekends. Through chess, she has gained a great
sense of critical thinking and problem solving as chess
requires one to make important decisions in a short
amount of time. She has many friends who share the same
interest and they often play together to brush up their
chess skills.

Other than that, Tharani likes writing poetry
whenever she’s free. Whether she’s having a good
or a bad day, she takes the effort to write a poem as
she feels poems expresses her feelings in the form
of words. Her poems have been critically acclaimed
as she has won many prizes for her poetry writing
and poetry recitations. In 2018, Tharani represented
her school in the District Level Poetry Recitation
Competition and won first place. Later on, she
bagged third place in the state level. In 2019, she
won first place in the District Level Poetry
Recitation Competition once again and this time
won first place in the State Level Poetry Recitation
Competition and represented the state to the
National Level Poetry Recitation Competition. This
year, during the MCO period, Tharani and her
brother, Ishwaar competed in “The Words for Our
World” Poetry Competition organized by Rafflesia
International School and won first place in the
group category and it was streamed live on
YouTube their achievement was published in The
Star newspaper.

Tharani’s hobbies have laid a concrete foundation
to many achievements in her co-curricular
activities in school. Reading has given her a wide
perspective of the world we live in and had armed
her with abundance of excellent vocabulary which
helps her greatly in writing, especially poems.
Chess enhances her critical thinking skills in
addition to motivating her to not to give up easily as
no one wins a game of chess by resigning. “Every
chess master was once a beginner”, she adds. Her
hobbies keep her busy, so she has no time to waste
during the weekends. Her hobbies has shaped her to
be a better person too.

but brave and desperate enough to try.

Evolution of Pros and Cons

Eleanor and Park reminds one of what’s it like to
be young and in love. This books sets at a high
school revolving around a young boy and girl who
gives their best to keep their love strong despite
their huge difference and when distance separates
them to. Rainbow Rowell impresses her readers
by explain every detail with great emotions
making them glued to the both. The book uses
good poetic references that should be taken into
account. This is personally my favourite book of
all time.

The Fault in Our Stars is award-winning
author John Green’s most ambitious and
heartbreaking work yet, brilliantly exploring
the funny, thrilling and tragic business of
being alive and in love. The story paints the
life of a terminally ill persona who wishes to
have time loving someone who she adores.
The book allows readers to be in the shoes of
someone ill. The book uses marvelous English
which is easy to understand also.

The Happy Girl revolves around a school girl
who is always cheerful and happy and paints a
life scenario of any other school student. One
can calm their mind reading this book as it is
very relatable. This book uses simple English
which can be easily understood and is suitable
to all ages as the book does not contain any
profanities or the usage of vulgar words. This
book has many moral virtues and lessons and
my personal favourite is that we should never
let go of our own happiness in order to make
others happy. This book will bring you on an
emotional roller-coaster as it revolves on family
relationships.

Book Review

Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William
Shakespeare early in his career of two star-
crossed lovers who deaths reconcile their family
feud. Romeo and Juliet is considered to be one of
the best love stories written. It portrays true love
between a man and women and their effort to
make it happen. Romeo and Juliet is now used as
a catchphrase or a figure of speech if one is
talking or writing about love. This classic is
looked up upon by many famous writers and
poets as William Shakespeare depicts the love of
both characters in a marvelous way by the use of
poetic phrases and extraordinary vocabulary.

Evolution of Pros and Cons

Shakespeare sets the scene of his story in
Verona, Italy. The setting portrays Italy in its
early days with Jews and strong believers in
Christianity. This book is a must if one would
like to know or experience Italy in its early days.
Howsoever, this book is written in olden English
which makes it a little harder for some people to
understand but regardless. This book contains
good language of poetry and should be read by
those who adore writing poetry. William
Shakespeare has used a great variety of
language that deserves great respect.

Evolution of Pros and Cons

Oliver Twist is a classic, one of Charles Dickens
most famous novel. The book is not too thick
and the language used is easy to understand.
Children ranging from eight and above are
highly encouraged to read this novel.

As the book is published is the early 1800, the
story depicts a whole different variation of
London and one can really gain experience on
the old London days just by reading this
phenomenal novel.
