Parish Council News
The March meeting of Barby & Onley Parish Council will take place on Monday
14th March at 7:30pm in Barby Village Hall. Members of the Parish are welcome
to attend, and the first 20 minutes of the meeting will be open for public
participation, so if you have a concern which you would like to make the Parish
Councillors aware of, then come along and let them know about it.
1
The Annual Parish Meeting will be held on Monday 25th April in Barby Village
Hall at 7.30pm. More Details next month.
Refuse & Recycling - In June 2018, Daventry District Council’s current waste and
recycling contract with Amey/Enterprise will end. When this happens, the cost the
Council will need to pay to deliver the service will be considerably higher. This is
partly due to the considerable drop in prices received for recycling materials.
Currently the service costs about £750,000 a year to run and if DDC carries on
with the same service, the cost is likely to be at least £1.25million per year higher.
With local authorities needing to meet higher recycling targets in the future, DDC
is also trying to ensure that a minimum 45% of waste is recycled. DDC is now
seeking the public’s views on the option for the service which seems to best meet
future requirements. Called a ‘1-2-3’ service, it proposes (1) a weekly food waste
collection, (2) a two-weekly recycling collection and (3) a three-weekly general
waste collection. How to give your views:
The consultation runs until 5pm on Thursday, 31 March, 2016 and all
residents and local businesses are encouraged to get involved.
For more details and to complete the consultation survey and view FAQs
about the proposals, visit the Council’s website at
www.daventrydc.gov.uk/wasteoptions2018. Alternatively, residents can
request a paper copy by calling 01327 871100.
View a video quick guide to the proposals at https://youtu.be/4Mphyruj9qY
Dog Fouling - Please clear up after your dog, even if it is dark… keep the village
free of dog mess. Thank you.
Clean up for the Queen - A “Clean up for the Queen” will take place on Sunday
17th April at 2.00pm in honour of the Queens 90th birthday. We cannot guarantee
that she will come and help, but we hope that many village residents will do so.
Please meet at Barby Village Hall at 2.00pm.
Onley Park Youth Club - Onley Park Youth Club Leader Claire Griffin would very
much like to see more young people coming to the youth club and joining in the
fun! Youth Club night is Thursday from 6.30 – 8.30pm in Onley Park Village
Hall during term time and is open to any child aged 8 years + from Barby or Onley.
Planning Matters - R15/2039 110 Houses off Barby Road. Gladman. This
application falls within Warwickshire and Barby & Onley Parish Council are not
consultees. The Parish Council have nevertheless lodged an objection to an
application to build 110 houses at the end of Barby Lane on the left hand side just
as you reach Hillmorton. The Parish Council is very concerned that an additional
houses will increase the amount of traffic in the area. Traffic will use Barby Lane
as a rat-run through Barby and this road is unsuitable for extra traffic. It is already
almost impossible to turn right at the end of Barby Lane into Hillmorton village.
The development would overlook the Rainsbrook valley and have a negative
impact on the rural setting of the Rainsbrook valley and the Oxford canal corridor.
If you are also concerned, then please make your views known to Rugby Borough
Council planning department.

WI - Late in January, 24 members went along to the Bell in Hillmorton and enjoyed
a lovely meal with good company. At our February meeting we were pleased to
welcome 2 visitors and hope they enjoyed their evening with us. Barry Watson
told us about "Life on the Cut" (canal) in days gone by. It was interesting to hear
the railways were not responsible for the demise of the canals but the road
network. Two members had been on a trip to London for a tour of the Houses of
Parliament. Sunday lunch time Jazz comes to Barby in September, more details
in future newsletters. Both our skittles teams are doing well and matches will be
finished by the end of February. At our next meeting on Tuesday March 8th Ruth
Orpen will tell us about "Birthstones". If you would like to know more about the W.I
give Chris a call on 890963 or come along to a meeting. Our programme can be
seen on the Village Hall notice board and on the W.I page of the village website.

Barby Church Trust – Thanks you to all who supported the Coffee Morning on
17th February. £156.50 was raised for Barby Church Trust.
Thanks from Catherine Lomax & Family - It is now 3 months since Brian died. I
wanted first to thank all of you who, during Brian’s short illness and in the time
since his death, have given us support and showed us such kindness, care and
concern. It has helped us through this sad and difficult time. Our heartfelt thanks
and gratitude go to you all.
I have now heard from Towers that donations totalling £785.00 were generously
given in Brian’s memory at his funeral and afterwards. This sum has been
forwarded to the Rwandan Cricket Stadium Fund, and I received a phone call
yesterday from Rwanda to say that building would begin in March. In one of the
world’s poorest countries, which has suffered devastating genocide in recent
years, this project will provide open access facilities for grassroots cricket,
particularly for youngsters, but also give the national team a better ground for the
first time. Brian would be so pleased, because he loved his visits to Africa, and
cricket was another of his sporting enthusiasms – for nearly fifty years he was a
life member of Lancashire County Cricket Club, where he spent many happy days.
What a wonderful community we have here in Barby. With our thanks Catherine,
Emily and Harvee.
