! !!
My name is Saya. TOMBAY is my best friend.
Tombay bought his very first pair of sandals from the Green Gecko Shop at the morning market.
After we came out from the shop Tombay suddenly started to walk away from me very fast ...

!

1. “Wait for me Tombay!”
2. “You walk too fast.”
3. “Are you sure this is the right way home?” I asked. !
4. “I don’t know Saya.” Tombay replied loudly.
5. “I just can’t stop now so please follow me, OK?” !

6. We quickly walked along this narrow path.
7. To the right, to the left, then we went straight, and then left again. 8. Then we came to a huge pond behind the temples.
!

!
9. I stopped there for a moment and just looked at the quiet pond.
10. “Ah ... happy bliss”
!
11. And, because no one was looking, I did my secret happy dance.
!

12. Then suddenly I realized Tombay was now so far ahead of me. 13. “Oh no, wait for me Tombay, I can’t catch up!” I shouted.
!
!
15. I sat down sadly at the edge of the pond and said to myself.
16. “Oh no, I will never catch him now.”
14. I saw Tombay walking faster & faster along the huge pond.
!

17. Then suddenly I heard a voice, “would you like some help?” 18. “What?... Who is talking to me?” I said.
19 “Here I am, I am just in front of you” the voice said again.
!

20. “But you are a goose, you are not supposed to talk to me.”
21. Goose said, “why not?”
22. “You see that is why humans are so boring.” 23. “Listen my girl, I know what is going on.”
24. “I will take you to the other side of the pond so you can catch up with Tombay.”
!

! ! !
! 25. “How do you know his name?” I said. !
! ! ! ! ! !
! 26. “Why not,” said goose. !
! 27. “Come on hop on my back now,
! I am about to cross the pond anyway.”
28. "I need to collect my naughty kids from
the other side of the pond before the storm comes.”
!

!
29. I slowly climbed on the goose.
30. Mmm, the mother goose was big and so soft.
31. In fact she was more comfortable than my own bed.
32. I thought to myself I wish I could sleep on her every night.
33. “Thank you mother goose” I said.
!
34. “You are welcome” she replied.
35. “By the way you can call me ... Debbie.”!

36. It was a whisper quiet ride.
37. She made slow pretty ripples in the pond.
38. I watched my face reflect on the surface of the water then . . .
39. Splash!! Eeek!!! Ahhh!!!!

40. “What was THAT?” I said.
41. Suddenly a face popped up out of the water and then disappeared again.
42. I almost fell off mother Debbie’s back.!
43. ”Honk, honk, honk“ Debbie laughed so loudly.
44. “Don’t worry, that is only my uncle Terry the turtle.”
45. “He loves to play jokes.”
46. “You see he has owned this pond for many, many years.”!

! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
47. “I am so sorry little one, ” said Turtle as he re-appeared.
!
!
48. “Ah . . . here you are uncle Terry.” Said Debbie.
49. “Now my girl, I need to go collect my naughty kids.” 50. “So can you hop on to his back now?”
51. “He will take you to the human ground.”
52. “You can trust him.”
!

! ! !
! !
53. “Why are you so kind to me Debbie?” I asked.
54. “Why not.” Said Debbie.
55. “Do you need a reason to be kind to someone?” 56. “We just help each other here, my girl.”
!
57. I carefully hopped on to the back of Terry. 58. Uncle Terry was big and hard but fun to ride.!
59. “Thank you Debbie” I said.
60. “You are so kind, I will remember your kindness.”
! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
!
!
! ! !
61. “You are welcome!” Debbie replied.
62. “Hurry home before the storm comes OK?” !

64. Terry said,
“It is not too far from here to the human ground.”
65. “Thank you Terry” I said.
!
63. Debbie winked at me and swam away.!

66. “It is my pleasure, little one” Terry replied.
67. “Can you see the 2 tallest trees in front of you?”
68. “That is the start of Brendan’s forest.”
69. “You follow the path in between those trees and walk to the end.”
70. “There you will find a little black door at the bottom of the last tree.”
71. “Just push this door with both hands and you will get home much quicker.”
72. “Remember when you push it say the magic words . . . “ALLAMBIE!!!”
!

73. “Really? Truly?” I said.
74. Terry answered, “Yes, Trust me,
I know my magic words.”!

75. I replied, “Thank you Terry, but why are you so kind to me?”
76. “Why not” said Terry.
77. “We just help each other here, little one.”
78. “Do you need a reason to be kind to someone?”
79. As we talked, we had reached the other side of the pond.
80. “Thank you Terry” I said.
81. “You are so kind I will remember your kindness.”
82. “My pleasure, little one” Terry replied.
83. “Hurry home before the storm comes OK?” !

!
84. When I hopped on the ground, I saw Tombay walking very fast towards me. 85. “WHAT? ... How did you get here before me Saya?” Tombay asked.
86. I tried to explain,
“I, um, I got on a goose.... then a giant turtle popped up and... and”
!
87. As I spoke he walked past in front of me.
!

88. Then I followed him as he walked toward between 2 tallest trees.
!
89. I soon saw the little sign that said “Brendan’s Forest.” 90. “Ah, I know this place, my friend Terry told me.”
91. “Hey, wait for me Tombay!”
!

92. We followed the path into Brendan’s forest.
93. Zuk, Zuk, Zuk, Zuk, the sound of our footsteps echoed & echoed.
94. Then I came to the middle of a lovely clearing in this beautiful forest.
!
!
96. “Ah ... happy bliss”
97. And because no one was looking, I did my secret happy dance.
!
95. I stopped there for a moment and slowly looked up at the sky.

98. Then suddenly I realized Tombay was now so far ahead of me. 99. “Oh no, wait for me Tombay, I can’t catch up!” I shouted.
100. I just ran and ran and ran so fast.
!
!
!
!
!
101. Soon I saw Tombay was getting very close to the end of the forest.
102. Then he stopped and lay down at the bottom of the last tree and said to himself.
103. “Oh no, I can’t walk any more.”
!

104. “Ah... I finally caught you Tombay” I said.
105. “Oh, look at that little black door!"
106. "Terry told me to push it with both hands then we can get home quicker." 107. "And yes, I remember something else."
108. When we push it we must say
the magic word . . . “ALLAMBIE!!!”
!
109. Tombay looked up at me and asked. 110. “Allambie? and who is Terry?”
111. “Terry is my new friend.”
112. “I can trust him.” I answered.!

113. Tombay closed his eyes quietly for a while and said, 114. “OK, that is good enough for me, let’s try it.”
115. He jumped up quickly and asked me
!
“Are you ready?”
116. We both placed our hands on the little black door
and counted together,
117. One ..Two..Three . . .
“ALLAMBIE!!!”
!

118. “Whoa !!!!!!”
and we fell through.!

!
!
119. “What happened?” said Tombay.!

120. “Look! It is our back yard” I replied.
!
121. “How can it be?” Tombay said.
122. “I don't know but we are home now so that's a good thing.!

!
123. “Whoo whoo!.. this is so cool ... but I am so thirsty now” said Tombay.
124. “Me too, Tombay, let’s go inside before the storm comes.” 125. “I will make us a nice cool drink” I said.
126. “Thank you Saya, you are so kind."
127. "But how do you know that a storm is coming?” asked Tombay. !
128. I answered proudly: “WHY NOT?”
The End!
