Commemorative Trophy Among the three world’s most elite tournaments, Thailand was responsible for making the medals for the winners and
the runners-up of the YONEX Thailand Open and the TOYOTA Thailand Open. The medals incorporated the Thai patterns
159 that Master Chalermchai Kositpiphat, National Artist on Visual Arts (Painting) had particularly designed for the events.
As for the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2020, the medals and the plates for the winners and the runners-up were made
by the Badminton World Federation.
In addition, the winners and the runners-up of the three tournaments were also awarded the commemorative trophies
with logos of the three historic events made by Thailand.

HONORABLE COMMEMORATIVE MEDALS
เหรียญทรี่ ะลึกเกยี รติยศ

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) created honorable commemorative
medals especially for the Thai dignitaries in recognition of their significant
contributions to the success of the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2020
being held from 27th to 31st January 2021 amidst the critical situation of the
COVID-19 pandemic. The medals were graciously presented to the dignitaries
as follows:
1. General Prayut Chan-o-cha (Ret.), Prime Minister
2. General Prawit Wongsuwon (Ret.), Deputy Prime Minister
3. Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Tourism and Sports
4. KhunyingPatama Leeswadtrakul, President of the Badminton Association
of Thailand Under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King.

Badminton World Federation Tournaments – Asian Leg - (12 – 31 January 2021)

Your Excellency General Prayut Chan-o-cha,

The Council and membership of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) would like to express its
deepest gratitude to the Royal Thai Government for the significant opportunity given to the
sport of Badminton through the hosting of the Asian Leg tournaments in (YONEX Thailand Open,
Toyota Thailand Open and HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2020) which took place in Bangkok in
January.

Even before the signing ceremony which took place on 29 October 2020, we acknowledge the
many discussions and decisions that had to be taken within the various ministries within the
Thai Government in order to extend the very gracious offer to host these world-ranking
badminton events in Bangkok at a time when most governments would have shied away from
such a mammoth undertaking under the current global COVID-19 pandemic.

Since that announcement, we are deeply grateful for every effort that was made and detailed
attention that was given to ensure the success of the three tournaments under strict health and
safety protocols. We would also like to take this opportunity to say a heart-felt “Thank You” on
behalf of the badminton athletes who have missed playing, as well as the 600 million badminton
fans who have missed watching their favourite sport.

We wish to acknowledge and recognise the strong commitment from the different Government
ministries and authorities which have played an extremely important role and led to the success
of the Asian Leg Tournaments. These include the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration of
Thailand which granted visa exemptions and extensions for the athletes and entourage, the
Ministry of Health and Centre for Disease Control Thailand for the strict health and safety
protocols, the Airport authorities for the smooth arrival processes, the Ministry of Tourism and
Sports, the Sports Authority of Thailand and the National Sports Development Fund for their
financial support, the Royal Thai Police and the Royal Thai Army as well as the various corporate
sponsors.

The successful hosting of the Asian Leg tournaments is no doubt a message of hope in a very
bleak situation that it is possible to provide a sense of normalcy in an unpredictable world with
the collaboration of different partners working towards a common goal.
