Mary's Little Lamb
Mary had a little lamb,
Its fleece was white as snow;
And everywhere that Mary went,
The lamb was sure to go.
It followed her to school one day,
It was against the rule,
And made the children laugh and play,
To see a lamb at school.
And so the teacher turned him out,
But still he lingered near,
And waited patiently about
Till Mary did appear.
And then he ran to her, and laid
His head upon her arm.
As if he said, "I'm not afraid,
You'll shield me from all harm."
"What makes the lamb love Mary so?"
The eager children cry.
"Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know,"
The teacher did reply.

Ride a Cock-Horse
to Banbury Cross
Ride a Cock-Horse to Banbury Cross,
To see an old woman ride on a white horse;
Rings on her fingers and bells on her toes,
She shall have music wherever she goes.
Humpty Dumpty
Humpty-Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty-Dumpty had a great fall;
All the King's horses, and all the King's men,
Couldn't put Humpty-Dumpty together again.

Counting Rhyme
One, two, buckle my shoe,
Three, four, open the door,
Five, six, pick up the sticks,
Seven, eight, lay them straight,
Nine, ten, a good fat hen,
Eleven, twelve, bake it well,
Thirteen, fourteen, maids a-courting,
Fifteen, sixteen, maids a-kissing,
Seventeen, eighteen, maids a-waiting,
Nineteen, twenty, my stomach's empty.

Sing a Song of Sixpence Page | 12
Sing a song o' sixpence,
A baggie full of rye,
Four-and-twenty blackbirds,
Bake it in a pie.
When the pie was opened
The birds began to sing;
And was not that a dainty dish
To set before the King?
The King was in his counting-house
Counting out his money,
The Queen was in the parlor
Eating bread and honey,
The maid was in the garden
Hanging out the clothes,
When by came a blackbird
And flew off with her nose.

Pussy Cat Baudron,
Where have ye been?
I've been to London
Seeing the Queen.
Pussy Cat Baudron,
What gat ye there?
I gat a good fat mouskie,
Running up a stair.
Pussy Cat Baudron,
What did ye do with it?
I put it in my meal-poke
To eat it with my bread.

And the dish ran away with the spoon.

To fetch a pail of water;

And broke his crown,
And Jill came tumbling after.

Mary, Mary, Contrary
Mary, Mary,
Quite contrary,
How does your garden grow?
Silver bells,
And cockle shells,
And pretty-maids all in a row.
Baa Baa Black Sheep
Baa, baa, black sheep, have you any wool?
Yes, sir, yes, sir, three bags full;
One for the master, one for the dame,
One for the little boy that lives in the lane.

My House is Red
My house is red—a little house,
A happy child am I,
I laugh and play the livelong day
I hardly ever cry.
I have a tree, a green, green tree,
To shade me from the sun;
And under it I often sit,
When all my work is done.
My little basket I will take,
And trip into the town;
When next I'm there I'll buy some cake,
And spend my bright half-crown.

Old Mother Hubbard
Old Mother Hubbard, she went to the cupboard,
To fetch her poor doggie a bone;
But when she got there, the cupboard was bare,
And so the poor doggie got none.
Three Blind Mice
Three blind mice; three blind mice;
See how they run; see how they run;
They all ran after the farmer's wife,
Who cut off their tails with a carving knife,
Did ever you see such fools in your life?
Three blind mice!

Wee Wifie
There was a wee wifie row'd up in a blanket,
Nineteen times as high as the moon;
And what she did there I cannot declare,
For in her hand she carried a broom.
Wee wifie, wee wifie, wee wifie, said I,
O what are ye doing up there so high?
I'm blowing the clouds out o' the sky.
Well done, well done, wee wifie, said I.

The clock struck one, and down the mouse ran,
Hickory, dickory, dock.
Little Boy Blue
Little Boy Blue, come, blow your horn,
The sheep's in the meadow, the cow's in the corn;
Where is the boy that looks after the sheep?
He's under the haystack, fast asleep!

Pat-a-cake

Bake a cake as fast as you can;
Prick it, and pat it, and mark it with T,
And put it in the oven for Tommy and me.
Round, Round, Rosie
Round, round rosie, cuppie, cuppie shell,
The dog's away to Hamilton, to buy a new bell;
If you don't take it, I'll take it to myself,
Round, round rosie, cuppie, cuppie shell.

Ring the Bells
Ring the bells—ring!
Hip, hurrah for the King!
The dunce fell into the pool, oh!
The dunce was going to school, oh!
The groom and the cook,
Fished him out with a hook,
And he piped his eye like a fool, oh!

The North Wind
The North wind doth blow,
And we shall have snow,
And what will the Robin do then, poor thing?
He will sit in the barn,
And keep himself warm,
With his little head under his wing, poor thing!

The Cuckoo
The cuckoo is a bonnie bird,
He sings as he flies;
He brings us good tidings;
He tells us no lies.
He drinks the cold water
To keep his voice clear;
And he'll come again
In the Spring of the year.

Little Bo-Peep
Little Bo-peep has lost her sheep,
And doesn't know where to find them;
Let them alone, and they'll come home,
Bringing their tails behind them.
Little Bo-peep fell fast asleep.
And dreamt she heard them bleating;
But when she awoke, she found it a joke,
For still they all were fleeting.
Then up she took her little crook,
Determined to find them;
She found them indeed, but it made her heart bleed.
For they'd left their tails behind them.
It happened one day, as Bo-peep did stray
Under a meadow hard by,
That she espied their tails, side by side,
All hung on a tree to dry.
She heaved a sigh, and wiped her eye,
And over the hillocks went stump-o;
And tried as she could, as a shepherdess should,
To tack again each to its rump-o.

Little wind, blow on the hill-top,
Little wind, blow down the plain;
Little wind, blow up the sunshine,
Little wind, blow off the rain.
School is Over
School is over,
Oh, what fun!
Lessons finished,
Play begun.
Who'll run fastest,
You or I?
Who'll laugh loudest?
Let us try.

Margery Brown
"Margery Brown, on the top of the hill,
Why are you standing, idle still?"
"Oh, I'm looking over to London town;
Shall I see the horsemen if I go down?"
"Margery Brown, on the top of the hill,
Why are you standing, listening still?"
"Oh, I hear the bells of London ring,
And I hear the men and the maidens sing."
"Margery Brown, on the top of the hill,
Why are you standing, waiting still?"
"Oh, a knight is there, but I can't go down,
For the bells ring strangely in London town."

Round the Mulberry Bush
Here we go round the mulberry bush,
The mulberry bush, the mulberry bush;
Here we go round the mulberry bush,
On a cold and frosty morning.
The Lion and the Unicorn
The lion and the unicorn
Fighting for the crown;
Up jumps a wee dog
And knocks them both down.
Some got white bread,
And some got brown:
But the lion beat the unicorn
All round the town.

Simple Simon
Simple Simon met a pie-man,
Going to the fair;
Said Simple Simon to the pie-man,
"Let me taste your ware."
Says the pie-man, "Simple Simon,
Show me first your penny;"
Said Simple Simon to the pie-man,
"Indeed, I have not any."
Simple Simon went a-fishing,
For to catch a whale;
All the water he had got
Was in his mother's pail!

Old Mother Goose
Old Mother Goose, when
She wanted to wander,
Would ride through the air
On a very fine gander.
Mother Goose had a house,
'Twas built in a wood,
Where an owl at the door
For a sentinel stood.
She had a son Jack,
A plain-looking lad,
Not very good,
Nor very bad.

She sent him to market,
A live goose he bought,
"Here, mother," says he,
"It won't go for nought."
Jack's goose and the gander
Grew very fond,
They'd both eat together,
Or swim in one pond.
Jack found, one fine morning,
As I have been told,
His goose had laid him
An egg of pure gold.
Jack rode to his mother
The news for to tell;
She called him a good boy,
And said it was well.
