At the Heart of the CareLink Mission...
Supporting Older Arkansans like Jimmy

Despite all the years we have to prepare for it, aging seems to sneak up on most of us. And when it does, there’s sometimes a question
of who can help. There’s where the services CareLink provides become a resource for many Central Arkansas families. Jimmy Kendrick is a
CareLink recipient and realizes the critical support the organization provides through its diverse and meaningful programs.

Jimmy never expected to be a recipient of the CareLink Meals on Wheels Program at the spry age of 78 years old - but CareLink,
Central Arkansas’s Area Agency on Aging has been his steady companion for more than ten years. In 2010, Jimmy became a family
caregiver and CareLink was there to help. Two years later, he discovered he needed a little extra help with meals. Through the years,
CareLink has continued to expand services – providing more support to those in need. “ They have more services to offer than others I
have seen,” Jimmy explains. “It’s been a positive thing, I’ve enjoyed … them. They’ve been very helpful.” Jimmy also receives daily calls
through the Telephone Reassurance Program and coordinates complimentary transportation through CareLink’s newest service.

For more than 40 years, CareLink has connected older Arkansans with resources to meet the opportunities and challenges of aging.

“I received the Chancellor’s Leadership Scholarship and decided it
was a great opportunity to receive an excellent education while being
close to family and work.

Being a part of the Chancellor’s Leadership Program created a strong
network of local professionals from various backgrounds studying a
wide range of fields. It also gave me an opportunity to be in student
government life on campus, which kept me involved in the programs
going on around campus. I still appreciate the relationships that were
built during my four years at UA Little Rock.

I received a strong educational foundation that has allowed me to
work in and explore various fields of business with confidence. The
friendships and relationships made during my college career continue
to be important in my personal and professional life today.”

Affordable and relevant, a great metropolitan university is critical to the
infrastructure of a vibrant city. It also requires a strong alumni association
that’s engaged in civic and business leadership throughout the Capital City.
UA Little Rock boasts both – with a shared vision for the future.

As UA Little Rock celebrates the success of its alumni, the university and
alumni reflect on the role the institution plays in the continued economic
development of Central Arkansas and the wealth of knowledge is offer

“Nonviolence is a Way of Life for
Courageous People” - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The World Health Organization recognizes violence among the leading causes of death. This
is a statistic that the Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, a division of the Arkansas
Department of Education, is shifting through the organization’s Nonviolence Youth Summits. It
is the legacy of Dr. King’s dream and the progression of positive change and human equity that
future generations must embrace. The summits celebrate racial and cultural diversity, inspiring
the transformative power of knowledge and the pursuit of nonviolence resolution.

Since its inception in 1993, the Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission has provided
strategic programming that cultivates an intrinsic understanding of social justice. “Our statewide
outreach is designed to be educational, with an appreciation of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and
his principles. We encourage youth to engage in positive leadership development by offering
thousands of hours of volunteer opportunities,” explains Executive Director DuShun Scarbrough.

In the face of adversity, communities are brought together with a unique opportunity to flourish
in unprecedented ways. Time passes and cultures shift, yet Dr. King’s vision of equal rights as
a human right remains steadfast. It reflects the mission fulfillment work of the Arkansas Martin
Luther King, Jr. Commission and the commissioners who devote themselves as civil servants on
behalf of the organization and the greater good.
