STRENGTHENING RADIATION PROTECTION AND NUCLEAR SECURITY IN HEALTHCARE ASSALAMUALAIKUM WARAHMATULLAHIWABARAKATUH AND SALAM MALAYSIA MADANI Dear distinguished guests and delegates of ICORSSIHS 2023. Welcome to the 5 International Conference on Radiation Safety and Security in Healthcare Services 2023. I am extremely delighted that once again, Persatuan Pegawai Sains Fizik (PERFEKS) has proven its impeccable capabilities to organize conference of international standards. Truly such and event of this magnitude would not have been possible without the commitment of hardworking team and months of preparation. As we may already know, ionizing radiation has played important role in radiology, nuclear medicine and radiation therapy. From their crude beginnings 100 years ago, diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine and radiation therapy have all evolved into advanced techniques, and are regarded as essentials tools across all branches and specialties of medicine. The Ministry of Health has always committed and will continue to mobilize the health sector towards a safer and effective use of radiation in health care. We have move resolutely in recent years to strengthen our legislative infrastructure. To fulfill MOH’s aspiration to continuously improve its health care services to public, this should be a platform for people who work with ionizing radiation, to update their knowledge with current practice and serve the public. I sincerely hope that this will create a stimulating intellectual environment and will further inspire all participants to pursue their activities with greater robustness. Its my sincere hope that everyone will enjoy this conference as much as the organizing committee has meticulously arranged for all of you. For our foreign delegates and also participants from outside of Kelantan, we extend our warmest welcome and truly wish that you would take some time off after the event to explore the bustling and melting port of city of Kota Bharu. YB DR ZALIHA MUSTAFA MINISTER OF HEALTH, MALAYSIA MINISTER OF HEALTH FOR EWORD th 5 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON RADIATION SAFETY AND SECURITY IN HEALTHCARE SERVICES (IC RSS HS 2023) th O i

Welcome to the 5 ICORSSIHS 2023 in Kota Bharu where a new experience awaits. We are excited to host this conference along with Kelantan State Health Department. We anticipate long and stimulating days full of intellectual excitement, interactions with colleagues, old friends, researchers, mentees and mentors. PERFEKS or PERSATUAN PEGAWAI SAINS (FIZIK) KEMENTERIAN KESIHATAN MALAYSIA was established in 2010. Since then, we have been organized to promote and initiate radiation safety and nuclear security as well as related fields in medical physics, in collaboration with experts throughout our country as well as abroad. In view of the rapidly advancing frontiers of science and technology, and the increasing importance of international collaboration, I strongly felt that we should play an important role in promoting the good practice of radiation safety and security in our field. The theme of this conference is ‘Strengthening Radiation Protection and Nuclear Security in Healthcare Services’ which will give a universal stage in the exchange to the future and present advances as well as difficulties to achieve radiation safety and security while using the various techniques specifically in radiation healthcare. Aside from that, this conference’s goal is also to bring together, a multi-disciplinary group of scientists and health professionals to exchange information and experience in the field of radiation protection and nuclear security. It promotes research and identifies areas for future improvement. This is all part of our contribution to ensure that radiation science and technology achieve their full potential for the benefit of humankind. Finally, I want to convey my deep appreciation and gratitude to the Kelantan State Health Department, organising committee and all of our distinguished plenary and invited speakers. I hope this conference will be enlightening for all of us, and I hope also that we will be able to continuously collaborate to push the frontiers of science and solve the problems of our nation. TS.
