“hybrid” deer attractant. The neutralization and conversion
process targets unwanted compounds found in urine, leaving
desired compounds behind. The system also targets uric acid
and neutralizes urine pH, prohibiting ammonia generation.
When neutralized urine is combined with the proprietary scent
additives containing synthesized natural compounds, the result
is a urine-based, CWD-free deer attractant made with real hu-

As part of the Mentor system and all
Signature Series Hang-On models, TNT’s
remarkable Universal Quick Hitch “V”
Bracket System deserves more discus-
sion. Each Signature Series Hang-On is
provided with three of these revolution-
ary brackets, which include the neces-
sary heavy-duty ratchet assemblies for
anchoring. The system allows installa-
tion in mere seconds, without the need to
haul a heavy stand into the tree and bal-
ance its weight during initial setup. Once
the mounting bracket is secured, the
stand can be derricked into the tree and
dropped into the bracket nearly instant-
ly—providing a clear safety edge. The sys-
tem also allows hunters to use a single
treestand in several different locations—
that number limited only by the number
of brackets owned—to help play varying
winds or remain mobile as hunting con-
ditions and hotspots dictate. Leaving only
a mounting bracket in your favorite stand
site also lessens the likelihood of stand
theft. Mentor “V” Brackets include four
heavy-duty, 1.5-inch J-hook ratchet strap
assemblies providing a 3,000-pound load
capacity. Additional brackets are avail-
able as an accessory.

A safe and convenient way to access

CWD prion is currently unknown, but the

It has been shown that a doe can pass
CWD to her offspring, but experts are
more concerned about the transmission
of CWD from adult deer to adult deer.
There is no proven explanation for exact-
ly how the disease is spreading, but there
are a few likely culprits.

One of the leading causes is likely
nose-to-nose contact between deer. Re-
search has shown that about 1 to 1.5
ounces of salvia from an infected deer is
enough to transmit the disease to anoth-
er host. This has been proven in labora-
tory settings, and there was also a case
in Texas of two CWD-infected deer that
were separated by a fence. The only con-
tact points those deer had was through
that fence line, so this suggested that
deer can spread the disease through sa-
liva and nose-to-nose contact alone.

Another leading factor behind the
spread of CWD is the prion’s long lifespan
and ability to contaminate an environ-
ment. When a large number of animals
are infected with CWD, and they are all
shedding prions in their saliva, feces and
urine, those prions can accumulate over
time and infect the landscape for many
years. The carcasses of animals that died
