4 | inside firearms | show issue 2026inside the industry | first roundManaging the SHOT Show WhirlwindI’ve attended so many SHOT Shows they have all become a blur. Early on I was largely interested in the archery stuff, as that’s where most of my work came from. I now attend two shows, the ATA Trade Show for the archery and bowhunting wares, and SHOT Show a week later to peruse the gun stuff.Good thing, too. The firearms industry has become such a behemoth that SHOT Show now involves twice the space, meaning double the booths to canvas and people to meet. I can actually remember when I would come away from SHOT feeling as if I’d covered it pretty thoroughly. During the past handful of years, I usually return home feeling I’ve just scratched the surface. That has much to do with the proliferation of military and law-enforcement wares now on display—for some reason still scattered amongst the civilian firearms, ammo and general shooting and hunting stuff. Why SHOT can’t consolidate all this stuff into one area is beyond me. Don’t get me wrong, I have a great deal of respect for our military and law-enforcement personnel, but riot shields, body armor and uniforms just aren’t in my wheelhouse. Properly attacking SHOT requires a good deal of up-front preparation, daily organization and strict discipline. You must first decide what your priorities are. You just can’t physically see it all—not in any proper sense at least.I start by creating lists. What companies or people are most important to us? What product categories are we actually interested in? Are there new companies or products we need to see to better understand? In short, Las Vegas is now alarmingly expensive, so what do we need to accomplish to get our money’s worth?Part of making these lists involves setting up appointments. SHOT is a chaotic place. You just can’t count on the people who are important to you being available when you finally get around to their booth. Setting a time and place for face-toface meetings ensures you’re able to talk to those important to your business goals. If you want to take this to another level, you’ll build appointment schedules around booth numbers—so you’re not jogging from one end of those massive buildings to the other for meetings…A lot of my discovery missions are planned the night before the show, with show badge in hand and a fresh show guide to thumb through. Marking booths that you need to see and organizing a smooth route allows more efficient use of your legs, again, avoiding zig-zagging aimlessly from one end of the show to the other. The days of dragging carts of brochures around, tripping show goers in the aisles, is so 1990s. Learn to utilize your cell phone. Photograph products and placards to jog your memory, or use UPC codes to download available info. You then have all that intel at your fingertips—and more importantly, avoid irritating those disorganized showgoers jogging to their next meeting.Inside Firearmsis a publication ofApollo Creative IncPrinted in the USA.PublisherApollo Creative IncOwners • Stephen Mack | Patrick Meitin | Ed RotherExecutive EditorPatrick Meitin • [email protected] EditorMichaelean Pike • [email protected] EditorStephen Mack • [email protected] Pike • Kat StevensSales & MarketingStephen [email protected] • 719.495.9999, ext. 1Design & ProductionER Graphics / Ed Rother • [email protected] Media ManagerJason AsheVideo EditorMarc BalistreriAccount Manager Pam Ludlam • [email protected] Services & Change of Address:Inside Firearms Circulation Department Inside Firearms, PO Box 986, Levittown, PA 19055-9998 Phone: 844.862.9286 • Fax: [email protected] OfficeInside Firearms / Apollo Creative IncP.O. 6 | inside firearms | show issue 2026“Affordability” is a hot topic these days, with many consumers looking for every possible way to make the most of their budget. For Holosun, the idea of affordability is nothing new. In fact, the company was founded in 2013 to address that very issue, a focus that has continued to this day.“I would say what sets us apart from most of the competition is our commitment to delivering really good consumer-grade and professional-grade optics at a competitive price point,” Holosun Marketing Manager Josh Erikson said. “I think a lot of people are looking for that good blend of affordability with durability. That’s been our niche.”But affordability on its own doesn’t mean much. What makes Holosun’s products so popular is that they’re also packed with the kinds of features and technologies that make a real difference for shooters while still offered at an attractive price point.More Money for AmmoErikson credits the company’s manufacturing processes for its ability to offer products at wallet-friendly prices.“It comes down to our streamlined approach of the operations,” he said. “From the outside in, Holosun may seem like a big company, but there’s not a crazy amount of us that work here, and everybody that does work here is incredibly passionate about what we do. We don’t have a massive overhead that we’re trying to cover costs for.”Affordability isn’t just important for budget-conscious consumers.“One of the things that’sreally important to us iswe want to make optics asaffordable as we can whileExpanding Access,Accuracy andConfidence forEvery Shooter

show issue 2026 | insidefirearms.com | 9still leaving enough margin for all of our dealers to keep the lights on,” Erikson said. “We don’t want your local gun store to disappear. The big distributors buy so much and in so much volume that the mom-and-pop stores have a hard time competing. For us, it’s really important to give up margin so those guys can stay afloat and consumers can still go to their local gun store, talk to people in person and get the right information. “The flip side to the affordability aspect is we want people to buy optics and then buy ammo and actually go out and become more proficient with these systems. If we want to continue to grow the industry in the right direction, we need to make sure people are getting training. The easiest way to do that is to offer more affordable accessories so they can spend that money on ammo and get into a class or something. That’s a big part of what we do.”Purposeful InnovationsWhile affordability is important toHolosun, the company also strives to develop technologies that make the lives of its customers easier.Take, for example, Solar Fail-Safe technology.“It’s a pretty simplistic system,” Erikson explained. “Basically, you have the solar panel on top. If the battery ever dies for any reason, Solar Fail-Safe will allow you to continue to power the optic on a bright enough day. Even using it inside at the trade shows where the lighting may not be the best, it still works just fine.“In our SCS Series, the solar panel is actually charging up the battery and powering the reticle as well. So, there’s a couple of different ways that it works, but it’s a fail-safe. You may never need it, but if you do, it’s there.”Other innovations include Holosun’s notably long-lasting battery life, which can last up to 100,000 hours, plus its signature multi-reticle system. We asked Erikson how Holosun comes up with its new technologies.“Ideas for new technologies come through listening to what consumers are asking for and then finding creative ways to solve those problems,” he said. “A good example of this would be our SCS Series of optics. A lot of consumers were looking for guidance on how to mount their optic to their pistol, which inevitability gets into the plate situation. We looked at that and thought maybe there was a need there we could solve. That’s how we came up with the idea to do direct-mount optics. We removed the plate system altogether and made the optic fit directly to the gun. Now you don’t have to worry about all those interfaces, and you have a really clean, OEM-looking solution.“Holosun’s bread and butter as far as technology goes is definitely LEDs, emitters and obviously our housing has become another standout part of what we work on. A lot of our product innovation comes from just really being heavily invested in the communities, whether that be the shooting sports, law enforcement agencies or general consumers. We try to take as much feedback as we can from what the consumers are looking for.“Of course, our engineers are also incredible wizards. They often come up with some really cool concepts, and we see how those fit into the marketplace.”Changing TrendsKeeping a finger on the pulse of the industry is critical to Holosun’s success. That means closely tracking the growing popularity of micro sights, tube sights and larger framed “big window” sights.“The popularity has really shifted,” Erikson said. “The micro red dot thing started with the RMR Series, where they were looking for a very small optic on top of a magnified optic for military ap-
10 | inside firearms | show issue 2026plications. From there, people wanted it for pistols, and it’s just taken off. I would say that the pistol side of the market is definitely the most predominant dot purchasers. As the 365 Series became more prevalent, a lot of these small, compact guns necessitated smaller-windowed optics. Just as everything keeps evolving, the shooting sports keep evolving. A lot more competition has been in the limelight recently, and that’s where a lot of those bigger-windowed optics come into play.“Red dots on rifles have been around for quite some time. And in that space, it’s really been just about looking at what the consumers are asking for. They want affordability. So, we have our standard 20mm tube sights. From there, we look at how we can solve problems—make it a little bit bigger and add a few more bells and whistles.”Everyday Carry OpticsThat same attention to trends led to Holosun beefing up their EDC options.“With everything going on over the last four or five years, there are a lot more people carrying guns,” Erikson said. “It’s not just young guys who are into guns. Now it’s the 45-year-old mom of four. It’s the girl going to college. The everyday carry side of the marketplace has expanded drastically. It seems like everybody has at least one or two of the 365 Series. That’s where we come in. Nowadays, you buy one of these guns and you immediately put an optic on top of it. We’ve really shifted the marketplace with the offerings that we have at the price point, like the 407K Series and the EPS Carry.“The EPS Carry is the go-to for a lot of people in the industry with its relatively small size. We offer it in a ton of different options—
show issue 2026 | insidefirearms.com | 11regular dot, multi-reticle system, solar, no solar. You have as many options as we could possibly give for that. I see so many posts on social media where someone says, ‘Hey, I bought a 365 and put an EPS Carry on it.’ It’s just all the rage these days.”Benefitting From OpticsAs marketing manager, Erikson said part of his job is educating consumers on the benefits of optics in general.“Look at law enforcement agencies,” he said. “After the switch from shooting iron sights to shooting optics, there’s a drastic reduction in missed shots. Accuracy and volume go up. That can be a
12 | inside firearms | show issue 2026matter of life and death for those who rely on their gear.” For a company that’s all about making shooters more accurate, that’s a big deal.“People who are learning to shoot a pistol for the first time are told to focus on that front sight, overlay the front sight on the target, and then go ahead and send their shots,” Erikson said. “With a red dot, it’s almost the complete opposite of that. The whole thing is focus on the target and then overlay the dot. Just from an evolutionary standpoint, it’s very difficult to tell somebody not to look at the person who is possibly going to cause them harm. It’s just not the way that the brain works. So having a system that’s more in tune with how people naturally want to shoot means they can focus on what the other person is doing. In a law enforcement scenario, they can watch the other person’s hands, and if they go for a gun, they just have to overlay the dot and will have a much better time getting those shots exactly where they need them in a lifeand-death scenario.“For competition shooting, it’s the same concept. You need to look at this target that’s 25 yards away and put two shots in a very small area. It’s much easier to do that when you’re not overlaying a giant front sight post on there. The skill threshold required to become very proficient with a red dot is not nearly as hard as it is with iron sights.”Different Options forDifferent Eye PreferencesHolosun doesn’t just make optics accessible by making them affordable. The company also focuses on offering a variety of options to suit shooters with astigmatism and color blindness.“Unfortunately, there won’t ever be a technology that will be a onesize-fits-all for people who have astigmatisms,” Erikson said.
show issue 2026 | insidefirearms.com | 13“Everyone’s eyesight’s a little different, even from your right eye to your left eye. That’s why Holosun has as many options as we can. For some people, they prefer just a very simple small dot, so we have a 2-MOA option. Some people want a little bit of a bigger dot that’s a little faster to acquire. No problem. We have a 6-MOA option. Then there are those who are just learning to shoot a pistol and struggling to find their dot when they draw. Now they can turn on our multi-reticle system. They have an easy aiming reference that gives them a nice 32-MOA circle to draw their eye in. As they get more proficient with it, they can turn that off if they want to. That’s one of the great things about our multi-reticle system. You can just click a button and rotate through whatever reticle option you want.”About 8 percent of men and .5 percent of women are color blind. Holosun has options for them as well.“Some people are red color blind, some people are green color blind, some people are both. That’s where we start offering more options with red dots and green dots. Now we have gold dots as well. That kind of covers most of those bases for everybody.”Exceptional ReliabilityHolosun products are known for their durability. We asked Erikson how the company manages to make such reliable products.“A lot of rigorous testing,” he said. Before any product hits the market, it’s subjected to a number of qualitycontrol processes.“We do a lot of rapid prototyping,” Erikson said. “It’s not uncommon for me and a couple of other people on the team to be out on the range on a Wednesday night testing night vision devices and making sure everything holds up the way we want it to. Then it goes on the machine for recoil testing, and then water submission testing.”In addition, Holosun takes advantage of advancements in materials and machining processes.“People used to think sights had to be made out of titanium to be super tough,” Erikson said. “Nowadays, aluminum is becoming so strong and the extruding processes and CNC processes are so advanced that it’s much better. We’re seeing law enforcement take these things out and slam them against walls, and they still work. It’s a testament to the engineering side of the team that really understands how to make these products as reliable as possible.”
14 | inside firearms | show issue 2026A Slew of ExcitingNew ProductsCurrently, Holosun’s best-selling products include the 407K and 507K Series. On the rifle side, Erikson said the new ARO Series has been selling incredibly well. In addition, the 510C is incredibly popular.“That’s one of those optics we’ll probably still be making in 2050 because people love it so much,” he added. The 507C is also insanely popular. “It’s impossible for me to get online without seeing a picture or two of the 407K and the 507C on social media,” Erikson said. For 2026, Holosun is introducing a number of new products.“Last year we had a swing toward rifle-related products,” Erikson said. “This year the pendulum is swinging back to the pistol side of things.“The first big one is the 507C X3 Series. We have a whole new vision for that pistol series. It’s going to have a whole new housing. We’re going to offer some new reticle options, and it’s going to be available in red, green and gold. We’re offering more gold pistol dots this year.“We have some new 507 Competitions in the works, taking that same style that we’re doing for the 507 X3 and rolling that into some of the other series. We have a 407 Competition that’s going to be a standalone 6-MOA. A lot of the competitors were asking for something a little cheaper, a little more basic. They just want something that works and that’s simple, so that’s going to be a solution for them.“Then we took the 507 Competition, which is already a very large window, and increased it by another 20, 25 percent. That’s the new 507 Pro Max. I think people are going to be really excited for that one. I personally have been running it on my gun, and it is incredible.“The 509T Series is going to get two new optics. Those are going to be called the AEMS Macro and the AEMS Micro. The AEMS Macro is going to be a very large-windowed enclosed optic for duty, law enforcement, competition, whatever you want to use it for. It’s a really nice, big, enclosed optic. We took that same concept and shrank it down a little. Now you have the AEMS Micro. That one’s going to be for those smaller 365-style guns.“The EPS Series has been a great seller for us. We have the EPS Carry, which is a smaller optic for those tinier guns, and we have the EPS Full Size, which is for your 17s and bigger guns. So we’re blending those two worlds together. The new EPS Core is going to be an EPS Carry base, but now we have the window flare out on the sides and come up to become a full-sized EPS window. If you have a small gun but want a bigger window, the EPS Core is going to be the way to go.“For rifle optics this coming year, we took the AEMS Ronin Max Series—which is so big we should probably be selling a Dish Network package with it—and scaled that back to create the AEMS Evo. It’s basically the mediumsized AEMS—a little bit of a bigger window, fills most of the width of the rifle. I think people are going to be excited about that one.“A lot of people are looking at running lights and lasers for night vision use or just to have a visible daytime laser. We’ve taken basically the IR laser and the visible laser and incorporated them into the optic itself. In the bottom of the optic window, you now have a Viz laser and an IR laser built into one housing. That’s going to be called the AEMS Dual.“Then we took our ARO Evo Series, which is our bigger 26-millimeter tube sight, and did the same thing. Now we have two series of rifle optics with lasers integrated into them. I’m excited to see the reaction to those.“We have a new laser that’s coming out as well called the IRIS Arc. It’s specifically an IR illuminator that is meant specifically to do wide flood kind of applications that you can then also toggle it and push the beam forward, so you can have a really crisp IR illuminator for distance use. It’s going to be kind of a niche product, I think, for the night vision users, but a lot of people have been asking for a really wide IR illumination tool, and this is going to fit the bill for them.”Taking Care of DealersFor Holosun, the dealer network is a vital part of the industry, and the company works hard to ensure those dealers
show issue 2026 | insidefirearms.com | 15remain as profitable as possible.“Our margins are a big part of what we’re doing to support the dealer network,” Erikson said. “When the tariffs kicked in, we didn’t raise prices at all. We haven’t done a price increase in four or five years. It’s important to us to maintain that for the dealers and for the consumers as well. The cost of everything is getting more expensive, and we want to make sure that people have the ability to get these tools at the right price and, at the same time, have extra money to spend on ammo and training or to buy some other stuff from their dealer. “We also run MAP holidays throughout the year to give the dealers a different incentive for some of the discounts. We have a great MAP policy. We try to enforce it as much as possible to make sure the dealers are playing on the same level playing field.”
16 | inside firearms | show issue 2026In addition, Holosun has been working on a new website.“That should help with answering some of those questions that dealers are getting,” Erikson said. “We’re going to have a pretty big push to get out more storefront displays, POP displays, better explainer videos, things like that. We’ll have a dealer-specific letter to let dealers know what’s going on at Holosun, when you can expect new products. We’re expanding the team pretty drastically to try to tackle more consumer education, as well as keeping our dealers more in the loop about what’s going on here.”Servicing the ConsumersHolosun works equally hard ensuring that its consumers experience topnotch customer service.“We have a dedicated team to answer customer calls,” Erikson said. “You can call pretty much any time and get somebody on the phone. Everybody here is educated on firearms. If there’s any warrantyrelated issues, just go on the website and fill out the RMA form. It’s a quick label. We ship the optic back, inspect it, and if it needs to be repaired or replaced, we take care of that.”The company also spends time answering questions about both its products specifically and optics in general. Team members go to events to spend time with consumers—and sometimes save the day.“I probably spend too much time on Reddit and social media answering questions and trying to be helpful,” Erikson said. “We try to get out to events as much as we can. I was at a shooting match recently, and someone’s optic died during one of the stages. I ran over and grabbed our demo display optic so they could continue shooting the match.”The Future of HolosunToday, Holosun has about 25 employees focused on growing and improving the sport they love. In addition to Erikson, key members of the Holosun team include Sean Holloway, who manages operations; Louis Craig, who serves as the sales manager and handles much of the business side of things; and Luis Chirino, who oversees the law
show issue 2026 | insidefirearms.com | 17enforcement part of the business and works with Holosun’s manufacturers. We asked Erikson what we can expect from Holosun in the future.“I think you can expect Holosun to continue to push innovation and continue to work with more manufacturers to come up with really cool and interesting new ideas and ways to make optics simpler for the consumers,” he said. “The biggest thing for us this next year is going to be a whole new website experience, YouTube videos—a lot more product education and a lot more presence online.“We’re here to answer questions and help the consumers, as well as to push product innovation and come up with cool new stuff. We continue to find ways to add thermals, add lasers and add capabilities, all with affordability in mind. We never want to be too expensive for people to actually purchase our products and play with them.”Beyond that, Erikson stressed the commitment everyone at the company has for the industry, the 2ndAmendment and the community.“We all work a lot of hours to make sure we can continue to support the dealers and have new products that are innovative,” he said. “And that’s mainly because we really are passionate about supporting the industry as a whole. We want to build products for that 45-year-old mom of three who doesn’t have a ton of money but needs the tools that could possibly save her life one day. Or for that law enforcement officer who chose our optic for his department and is relying on it in life-or-death situations.“We’re an optics company for the people. Everybody here is deeply invested in the community we’re making products for. That makes it easy for us to take the feedback from the right places, incorporate that into our products and make the best gear we can. We just really try to foster growth and make sure people have what they need.”
18 | inside firearms | show issue 2026market trends | handgun reportHunters seeking reliable bear-country backup have traditionally looked to revolvers chambered in rounds such as the 44 Remington Magnum, 454 Casull, 480 Ruger or the monstrous 460 and 500 S&W Magnums.Problem is, not many shooters ever truly master these viciously-recoiling handguns. For those who deem getting lead on target more important than raw energy, the 10mm Auto has become a favorite. The 10mm Auto is chambered in any number of 1911 and modern semiauto handguns, but Smith & Wesson’s Model 610 revolver gives 10mm Auto fans a stout wheel-gun alternative. The 10mm Auto cartridge is quite versatile, shooting .40-cal/10mm bullets from 125 to 200 grains and providing substantially more power than common 9mm Luger or 45 ACP cartridges. While coming up about 45 percent short of the delivered energy of the 44 Mag, the 10mm is nonetheless quite capable—and considerably easier to control and shoot well than larger magnums. The Smith & Wesson Model 610 is a double-action revolver that allows making the most of modern 10mm Auto loads. Springfield, Massachusetts’, Smith & Wesson (S&W) has remained a revolver-manufacturing touchstone for going on a century, the Model 610 built on the company’s bigbore N-frame to handle stout loads. The 10mm Auto cylinder allows shooting lighter 40 S&W loads for practice or plinking by using the three provided moon clips, which are required to accommodate the rimless rounds. The Model 610 isn’t a new handgun model, but has undergone continuous upgrades and model changes since its introduction. The S&W “Gen-1” 10mm Model 610 revolver first appeared from 1990 to 1992, that run including about 4,500 firearms holding 5- or 6½-inch barrels and fluted cylinders. Smith & Wesson reintroduced the Model 610-1 in 1998, and then the Model 610-2 in 2001, the latter including an unfluted cylinder and 4-inch barrel. The 10mm Auto’s popularity begin to fade shortly afterwards, coaxing Smith & Wesson to discontinue the Model 610.Yet the 10mm Auto has experienced a sort of renaissance, a handful of hardcore fans keeping it alive until a new generation of shooters rediscovered its real merits. This recently prompted Smith & Wesson to revisit the Model 610, which brings us to the test revolver under discussion in this issue, the newest “Model 610-3.” This could be considered a hybrid of all of the previous 610 models. The newest version of the Model 610 by Smith & Wesson is a stainless steel revolver holding an ergonomic polymer grip. It can be ordered with either a 4-inch barrel for easier carry, or a 6.5-inch barrel to maximize 10mm Auto energy delivery. As a frequent Texas wild hog hunter, I chose the 6.5-inch tube version for testing. The 2025 Model 610 includes a full underlug and a fluted cylinder. The barrel is one-piece forged, and the cylinder release has been redesigned. The hammer and trigger are manufactured using MIM technology (Metal Injection Molded). The MIM process gives these parts a case-colored appearance. The trigger shoe is wide and smooth. Following the pattern of other recent Smith & Wesson revolver designs, the newest Model 610 incarnation includes a framemounted firing pin and transfer-bar safety instead of the hammer-mounted firing pin of older models. This is a much safer configuration, eliminating the possibility of an accidental discharge should the revolver be unintentionally dropped on a loaded cylinder. For those with children in the house, or anyone else who should not have access to a firearm, the newest Model 610 also includes an internal lock. Using the provided key, owners can prevent all operation of the firearm. Shot in single-action mode the Model 610 provided a clean 4-pound trigger break. While the trigger pull was closer to 10 pounds when shot as a double-action revolver, it remained impressively smooth. For customers looking to use this reBy Patrick MeitinSmith & WessonModel 610 10mm Auto Revolver
show issue 2026 | insidefirearms.com | 19volver for hunting deer or wild hogs, the 6.5-inch barrel is certainly my recommendation. The 1.5 inches of extra barrel generates extra velocity—which translates into additional energy and penetration on target. The longer sight radius should also help boost overall accuracy. The shorter barrel would obviously make a better carry gun for in-field backup, as the 6.5-inch model hits the scales at a solid 50 ounces/3.13 pounds. This heft made it steady over a rest and enabled me to assemble some sub-1-MOA groups at 25 yards.Of note, the Model 610 allows shooting 10mm Auto rounds without involving the supplied moon clips, but each case must then be plucked from the cylinder individually. Using the moon clips with the 10mm rounds allows pushing all spent cases out as a single unit using the cylinder push rod. The stainless steel moon clips were most easily loaded by laying rounds on a flat surface and pushing the spring-loaded openings over the rebated rim until they clicked into place. In general, the loaded moon clips didn’t drop into the cylinder as slickly as a speed loader, requiring some jiggling to coax all rounds into place. I attribute this to the closed system and longer barrel. Compared to my 10mm Auto 1911 with standard 5-inch barrel, the Model 610’s 1 ½ inches of additional barrel length resulted in 150 to 200 fps increases in muzzle velocity on average. 20 | inside firearms | show issue 2026market trends | focus on opticsHawke OpticsVantage HD BinocularsIspent 23 years guiding and outfitting big-game hunters in New Mexico, Arizona and Old Mexico. One thing I learned early in the game is that a quality pair of binoculars is vital to success, because without binoculars you are essentially flying blind.During my guiding days I bit the bullet and purchased a pair of high-end German-made binoculars manufactured by a renowned brand. I could justify the $1,000-plus (1990’s money) price-tag of those binos because I was guiding professionally, yet a short stint in retail sporting goods quickly showed me that the general public of largely weekend warriors does not have that justification. They needed quality glass, but also needed to stretch their outdoor budget as much as possible. That is what Hawke Optics is all about—offering quality optical products at blue-collar prices. They somehow manage to do this while providing top-quality glass, coatings and features. A prime example of this dynamic is Hawke’s Vantage HD series. The Vantage HD series are packed with advanced features, but at a price most of your customers can justify. They include Hawke’s H2 optical system, phase corrected prism coatings and fully multi-coated lenses for bright views in low-light scenarios, gin-clear detail and true-to-life color fidelity. Combining these aspects essentially equals more game spotted and more successful hunts. Hawke, again, manages to do this while keeping prices affordable. The Vantage HD Series are based on a tough polycarbonate chassis, which is armored with protective rubber. This means they are lightweight and immune to hard knocks. They include openhinge geometry, which makes them easy to handle while wearing slick gloves or when the binoculars are wet. The twistup eyecups make them compatible for customers who wear eyeglasses, and they hold a ¼-inch by 20 UNC tripod mounting tap, which is especially useful for models with higher magnification. The tripod-mounted approach is how I once found tiny desert Coues whitetails in vast Southwest habitats. The Vantage HD lineup includes an option to fit any customer’s hunting approach. The compact Vantage HD 8x26mm and 10x26mm models, for instance, would make ideal companions while sitting on a treestand or inside a blind. The midsized 8x34mm and 10x34mm would be my choice for runand-gun bugling elk during early seasons. In the full-sized realm, 8x42mm and 10x42mm are likely best for glassing large country while rifle hunting or spotand-stalk archery scenarios. Just to take the midsized The Vantage HD 8x34mm as an example, they weigh a manageable 15.2 ounces, or slightly less than 1 pound. The compacts are considerably lighter, of course, the full-sized models slightly heavier.Hawke Vantage HD series binoculars are ready to tackle the most demanding conditions, as they are nitrogen purged and sealed to be 100 percent fog- and waterproof. Each pair of Vantage HD binos comes with a neck strap, padded storage case and protective stay-on lens covers. They are covered by Hawke’s No-Fault Lifetime Warranty. 22 | inside firearms | show issue 2026market trends | rifle reportHorizon Firearms owner Derrick Ratliff and his brother Austin produce some truly unique and sexy rifles. Horizon Firearms first appeared on many serious shooters’ radar by bringing the shooting world the sizzling 22 Creedmoor, in cooperation with Hornady Manufacturing. As part of the 125-year-old conglomerate Kasper Companies, Horizon also owns Iota Outdoors (makers of the carbon fiber stocks used on their own rifles), Stiller actions (also used in Horizon Firearms rifles) and Texas Ammunition.Regarding Horizon Firearms rifles, the only parts they do not manufacture are triggers and barrel blanks. Everything else is made in house, allowing them to maintain strict quality control over the company’s finished products in combination with a rare agility to quickly adjust to changing trends—as we will see. Horizon first made a name for itself with bold paint jobs, unique fluting (including carbon fiber barrels) and personalized features and details, but has also managed to maintain an impressive degree of accuracy through it all.Horizon rifles are offered in Select Series or Core Series. The Core Series includes the Vandal Prime that is the subject of this Rifle Report. In a nut shell, Core Series rifles are pre-configured factory rifles that are custom at their core. Horizon’s ability to quickly pivot to emerging trends also leads to chambering options such as the hot new 25 Creedmoor of the rifle tested. The 25 Creedmoor cartridge was conceived by gun writer Richard Mann, and then refined by Hornady to optimize throat and chamber geometry. Hornady also pushed it through the SAAMI acceptance process, which was granted in 2025. The 25 Creedmoor created the first modern .257-caliber cartridge able to handle longfor-caliber bullets with very high ballistic coefficients (BCs). This means sleek projectiles from 128 (Hornady ELD-X) to 134 grains (Hornady ELD Match) with G1 BCs from .633 to .645 that allow it to compete head to head with cartridges like the 6.5 Creedmoor. The Vandal Prime can also be ordered in 22, 6mm and 6.5 Creedmoor (CM), 6.5 PRC, 7mm PRC, 308 Winchester, 300 Winchester Magnum and 300 PRC, with 22- or 24-inch barrels, depending on chambering. When chambered in the 25 CM, the Vandal Prime comes standard with a 22-inch barrel—a premium 416R stainless steel tube holding snazzy three-flute/two-twist fluting, 1:7.5 rifling twist and an iota SIM muzzle brake on 5/8-24 TPI threads. The action is pure Stiller and the stock an iota EKO carbon-fiber number texture-painted Midnight Grey. TriggerTech supplied the trigger. Right- and left-hand options are available. Each rifle weighs 7-pounds, 4-ounces bare, includes a ½-MOA accuracy guarantee and retails for a dollar short of three grand. The Stiller action is a 416R stainless steel, round-body design with Remington 700 footprint and two-lug push-feed bolt including a M16-style extractor and plunger ejector. The safety is a two-position Remington-style. Horizon adds a 20 MOA Picatinny rail. Horizon forges the bolt from a single piece of steel, adds spiral fluting and a threaded bolt handle holding a tactical-style knob. The recoil lug is triplepinned and anchored between the action face and barrel shank. The medium-profile 416R stainless steel barrel looks cool as all get-out and cools quickly, thanks to the aggressive Horizon fluting. That spiral fluting undoubtedly shaves some amount of weight, and both the action and barrel are finished with KG Gun Kote. The 5/8-24 muzzle threads allowed removing the iota muzzle brake and adding a Dead Air Nomad Ti XC suppressor. The Vandal Prime’s detachable magazine positions cartridges in line with the chamber to improve feeding reliability. This five-round magazine is molded polymer and held in milled-aluminum bottom metal. The ambidextrous magazine release is located on the front edge of the glove-friendly trigger guard, that guard also including a port to feed an Allen wrench through to conduct trigger adjustments. The TriggerTech design is a singleBy Patrick MeitinThe Horizon Firearms Vandal Prime, chambered in 25 Creedmoor, includes a 22-inch, 416R stainless steel barrel with 1:7.5-inch rifling twist and unique three-flute/two-twist fluting. The rifle arrived with an iota SIM muzzle brake, but was shot with a Dead Air Nomad Ti XC suppressor.A Trijicon Tenmile HX 5-25x 50mm scope set in Trijicon four-screw steel rings was added to the Horizon Vandal Prime rifle. The optic proved well suited to this long-range package, allowing 50 MOA of elevation and 40 MOA of windage corrections. The Horizon Firearms Vandal Prime was shot from atop a sturdy homemade bench and MTM Case-Gard’s K-Zone Shooting Rest. show issue 2026 | insidefirearms.com | 23stage trigger that arrived from the factory providing a crisp, creep-free 2-pound, 2-ounce break. The iota carbon-fiber stock includes a vertical grip with ambidextrous palm swells and thumb ledges that proved entirely ergonomic. The wide forend was designed to sit steadily on sandbags on the bench or daypack in the field, and holds two sling studs spaced 3 inches apart (another is found at the butt) to accommodate a bipod. The textured surface provides a firm grip while wearing gloves or when wet. An AirTech recoil pad molded from LimbSaver NAVCOM material made this rifle a pussycat, while machined pillars create a rock-solid foundation. Standard length of pull (LOP) is 13 ½ inches. Adding a top-tier Trijicon Tenmile HX 5-125x50mm scope brought finished weight to 10.85 pounds.Hornady is the only source for 25 CM ammo that I’m presently aware of, with two new loads recently added (a lead-free copper and a varmint load). Hornady’s 128-grain ELD-X Precision Hunter loads, in particular, impressed by sending three shots into less than ¼-inch at 100 yards. While the newest high-BC .257-cal bullets from Hornady and Berger were designed specifically for the 25 CM, the Vandal Prime shot well with standard .25-caliber bullets intended for cartridges like the 25-’06 Remington. The long-for-weight, nontoxic copper Barnes 101-grain LRX BT, in particular, truly shined. In general, I found the new heavy-weight .257-caliber bullets to be finickier to seating depth, but that could be easily worked out given more time. I have no doubt the 25 CM would also impress as a windy-day, longrange varmint rifle.Overall, the 25 Creedmoor seems to be a pretty forgiving cartridge capable of anything the hugely popular 6.5 Creedmoor will do—in fact slightly edging it out at longer ranges. The Horizon Firearms Core Series Vandal Prime makes the ideal vehicle for wringing out this exciting new round, and true to the company’s agility, they were one of the very first to make a rifle so chambered available to the public.Horizon’s Vandal Prime would make an ideal rough-and-tumble mountain rifle topped with a more conservative optic, or a bang-up long-range PRS, pronghorn or Coues whitetail tool as tested. Now, it would be wise to stock all the new Gen 6 models—the Glock 17, Glock 19, and Glock 45—but we’re focusing on the G19 due to its popularity.Glock launched the Gen 6 G19 in the aftermath of a California ban on the brand due to what the state deemed a design that made it “too easy” to add an illegal switch for fullauto fire (illegal without the proper NFA approval and tax stamp). The VSeries came first, altered to make the switches on the market incompatible with Glocks, and then came the Gen 6. It’s been nearly a decade since Glock launched the Gen 5, so it’s past time for a new generation, anyway. TargetTacks offer a more efficient and economical way to secure printed target faces to cardboard or poly-board backers. I once used plywood backers and staple guns to secure targets—which was messy and heavy to deploy. With TargetTacks, I now utilize lighter and cheaper cardboard backers and infinitely reusable 1-inch TargetTacks. They include three tapered, serrated edges that make them strong and secure, and include a looped head to use in conjunction with the newer Snap System.TargetTacks are offered in 1- and 3-inch lengths, orange, pink, teal and lime green colors, and in six-, 12- and Variety-packs. New packaging helps TargetTacks stand out, and bulk bags can be purchased by training facilities and ranges. The Snap System has undergone material refinements to increase reliability and longevity. They allow using TargetTacks as a base for wind indicators, lane or target-number identifiers or sponsor display placards. They can also be used to make any shooting range safer, using the company’s 4-inch square, flippable indicator, which includes red and green sides. Green indicates a target is safe to shoot, while red signals shooters to hold fire. This safety measure effectively lowers any club’s liability. The all-new Shot Showdown Challenge includes game-inspired targets designed to make shooting more fun and engaging. The first series of TargetTack Targets will debut the Shot Showdown, a flagship game transforming practice sessions into fun, shareable competition. The Shot Showdown offers a structured target game, with rules, scoring and submission accessible via a printed QR code. This enables shooters to share results on social media and also tag TargetTack’s social account. Shooters can compete with friends, online communities, or clubs and ranges on TargetTack’s online leaderboard. More exciting yet, semiannual prizes will be awarded to top shooters. These targets include two options. 38 | inside firearms | show issue 2026market trends | rifle reportThe Benelli Lupo is the Italian gunmaker’s first bolt-action hunting rifle. Leave it to Benelli to not only hit the mark on its first bolt-action venture, but to hit a homerun.Benelli continues to refine the lineup, the latest iteration the Lupo HPR (High Precision Rifle). This rifle is offered in 6.5 Creedmoor, 308 Winchester, 6.5 PRC, 300 Win Mag, 300 PRC and 338 Lapua. One look tells you the HPR label is justified. The HPR maintains the features that set the original Lupo apart. The cylindrical action is milled from top-grade steel. The three-lug bolt provides a fast 60-degree throw, while the hour-glass mid-section promotes smoother cycling. The bolt design can be stripped for cleaning in the field, and includes a plunger ejector and extractor located inside the 2 o’clock-position lug. The bolt handle is doglegged and sweeps down sharply to clear the larger ocular bells of modern scopes. The bolt handle is large and bell shaped. As tested, the Lupo HPR magazine held five 308 Winchester rounds, which fed slickly. In Italian fashion the flush-fit magazine maintains the rifles elegant lines. The proprietary double-stack design also includes a forward/center alignment column to guide cartridges smoothly into the chamber. The angled trigger guard is another graceful Italian aesthetic, while allowing easy operation while wearing gloves. The crisp trigger is user adjustable from 2.2 to 4.4 pounds, arriving set at a satisfactory 3 pounds. Adjusting the trigger requires pulling the action from the stock/chassis. It includes a two-position, tang safety, which locks the bolt when on safe, though a separate tab allows working the bolt for unloading while still on safe. The Lupo includes a hybrid stock design with an aluminum chassis anchoring the action, and separate synthetic forearm and buttstock sections. Given a 24-inch barrel, the rifle measures 46 inches overall. This is a decidedly tactical design. The synthetic forend and butt are tan with black spiderwebbing. The forearm includes a flat base, side finger groves, M-LOK mods on the base and sides and checkered side panels. The butt includes an adjustable comb, interchangeable checkered polymer grips (thinner sloped and palm-swelled vertical), and a polymer insert can be removed to expose a bag hook. QD slingmount sockets are located on the bottom and both sides of the firearm, and on both sides of the buttstock. Spring-loaded QD sling mounts are provided. The Progressive Comfort system reduces felt recoil—just like the company’s shotguns. Spacers are provided to adjust length of pull (LOP) from 13 ¾ to 14 ¾ inches beneath the recoil pad. Drop and cast adjustments require more effort, requiring disassembling the stock and trying various options in trial-and-error fashion. The adjustable comb is spring-loaded and released with a spring-loaded push button to create optimal scope alignment. The fluted barrel is hammer-forged, freefloated barrel and a medium contour (.86-inch just behind the 5/8x24 muzzle threads). The muzzle holds a substantial three-port brake with 11-degree crown, which is easily removed to add a suppressor. Benelli’s stress-relief Crio process better aligns metallurgic grain and creates smoother bore surfaces. In 308 Win, twist rate is an odd 1:11 (instead of the standard 1:10). The barrel anchors to the receiver through a steel barrel extension, further secured to the recoil lug with dual screws. A long-range 30-MOA Picatinny rail is installed at the factory.Benelli’s BE.S.T. (Benelli Surface Treatment) protects the barrel and action from wear and corrosion, even when exposed to salt water. BE.S.T. finish is warranted for 25 years. In 308 Win the Lupo HPR weighs 9.4 pounds bare and Benelli extends a ¾-inch/5-shot/100-yard guarantee, with the usual caveats obviously.I shot the Lupo HPR using a Burris XTR III 3.3-18x 50mm scope set in Leupold fourBy Patrick MeitinThe Lupo HPR comes with two grip inserts, one smaller and thinner, the one shown here a vertical option with pronounced palm swells. They are textured and easily swapped by removing a single screw. The synthetic forearm of the Lupo HPR includes three M-LOK rails—one on the bottom flat, and one along each side—to make it easy to add preferred accessories such as bipods. The distinctive Benelli Lupo bolt includes an hourglass midsection that shaves some small amount of weight, but more importantly prevents binding for faster, smoother cycling. Shown here are the complete selection of spacers, shims and grip options that come with the Lupo HPR. Other than the smallest shooters, the HPR can be custom fitted to any adult male shooter. Benelli Lupo HPR
show issue 2026 | insidefirearms.com | 39screw steel rings. This brought finished weight to 13.63 pounds while unloaded. This is a 34mm riflescope with exposed MRAD elevation and windage turrets, fine crosshairs and gin-clear glass that has proven extremely reliable through many years of rifle testing.I was forced to shoot the Lupo HPR in nasty-cold weather while wearing gloves, yet the rifle’s controls proved easily manipulated. The Progressive Comfort system and muzzle brake made the HPR a pussycat to shoot in 308 Winchester. During sightin I found the brake a bit obnoxious, so removed it and conducted accuracy testing using a Dead Air Nomad Ti XC suppressor. The four factory loads on hand did not shoot as well as I would’ve liked—though I could blame the heavy gloves for some of this. The six handloads consisted of a mix bag of hunting and target bullets, with some better groups resulting. See the accompanying chart for details.Generally, I find accuracy guarantees a bit suspect. The loads tested were fairly random, though based on powders and charges that have worked in other 308 Win rifles—if not the exact bullets, or even rifling twist in the case of the HPR. I have no doubt I could shrink these groups with more load development, as the Lupo HPR certainly showed potential. The Benelli Lupo HPR is solidly and thoughtfully constructed, offering smooth and failsafe functioning and eye-grabbing appeal. On the later, the strict traditionalist may find the Lupo HPR a bit too modern looking, but that Italian styling is difficult to dismiss. Despite the HPR’s generous adjustability for fit, this is not a petite woman’s or youth rifle, but can be set up to fit any adult male while minimizing recoil felt through a perfect fit. Recoil was a straight-back push with no annoying muzzle rise. The bolt ran silky smooth and quick with all tested loads, with all controls straightforward and intuitive from the get-go. While the HPR model is meant for target shooting and tactical applications, its weight wouldn’t prove prohibitive in the hunting fields. The Benelli Lupo HPR offers a lot of appeal, and comes with a retail price that competes favorably with similarlyequipped rifles carrying similar MSRPs. 40 | inside firearms | show issue 2026market trends | handgun reportArmscor International/Rock Island Armory is the only company I am aware of chambering firearms in the 22 TCM cartridge. The company offers a couple bolt-action rifles, but to a larger extent 1911-style pistols. The 22 TCM has been around since 2012 and is a bottlenecked pistol cartridge based on a necked-down 223 Remington case shortened to function from 9mm Luger magazines. The 22 TCM is an Armscor International propriety cartridge, and though it has not been granted SAAMI approval, factory ammunition is readily available through Armscor USA. The cartridge was created by Martin Tuason, Armscor’s former president, and Frederick Craig, a former Armscor gunsmith and consultant. T for Tuason, C for Craig and M for MicroMag. Armscor lists muzzle velocity at 2,000 fps using a 40-grain jacketed hollow point from a 5-inch barrel. The small caliber and bottleneck design make the 22 TCM a highly unique pistol cartridge. Small-caliber handgun cartridges were attempted in the 22 Jet and 256 Winchester Magnum—both now obsolete—which were chambered in revolvers. They failed due to a propensity for case setback locking cylinders and rendering the firearm inoperable. Chambering the 22 TCM in a semiautomatic pistol remedies that issue, the proven 1911 frame able to withstand the 38,000 to 40,000 psi pressures developed by the bottlenecked cartridges.I had the opportunity to test Rock Island Armory’s Standard FS 22TCM 10-round HC extensively with a wide variety of loads. My main takeaway was this pistol is just flat fun to shoot. It includes very little recoil, but does require quality hearing protection, as the high velocities generated—relative to handgun cartridges—creates a sharp crack. This handgun is also reasonably priced, which is the case with all Rock Island Armory handguns, rifles and shotguns. The 22TCM is a 1911-style pistol, as mentioned, which means despite the micro nature of the cartridge, the shooter gets a handful of pistol for better control and accuracy. The frame and slide are constructed from 4140 ordnance steel, with all final fitting conducted by hand to ensure flawless functioning. It’s steel makeup gives it a solid and steady feel in the hand. The 22TCM includes a 5-inch barrel, essentially standard for a 1911. Rounds feeds from a steel, 10-round double-stack 9mm Luger magazine, a quality design made in Italy. The double-stack mag makes the grip somewhat chunky, measuring about 1.45 inches wide side plate edge to side plate edge, compared to the 1.16 inches of my Springfield 1911 A1 single-stack 45 Auto. I have large hands, so this presented no problems, but could become an issue for women or those with small hands. The hammer and trigger are skeletonized. The trigger system includes an adjustable over-travel stop and broke at a pleasant 4.5 pounds. The iron sights include a dovetail-cut-mounted fiber optic front bead and TRT1 adjustable rear sight with no alignment dots. There is no provision to add a red dot sight on this model, and I found the irons a bit coarse for my tastes. I felt throughout testing that I could assemble tighter groups given a finer sighting system. A combination of checkered polymer grips and a knurled grip backstrap made the pistol easy to control under live fire. The pistol includes a durable Parkerized coating to deter rust. Standard-issue 1911 thumb and grip safeties (ribbed), left-side magazine release button and slide release and beavertail grip were also part of the package. The rear-ribbed slide serrations proved sufficient for the light-cycling slide.I once owned and loaded for an Armscor/Rock Island Armory M22 TCM BA rifle, but my experiences with the pistol version were previously limited to a couple magazines fired during a SHOT Show Industry Day at the Range in Boulder City, Nevada. The TCM’s gentle recoil is offset by obnoxious muzzle report, and the TCM struggled to flip 8-inch duelingtree steel plates that 9mm Luger handgun rounds slammed with authority.Armscor factory ammunition is available and pretty affordable, but I found greater accuracy came through reloading, By Patrick MeitinArmscor International / Rock Island Armory1911.22 TCM Pistol
show issue 2026 | insidefirearms.com | 41if that is something that is important to you. Pressure tested load data is available in Western Powders Handloading Guide Edition 1 (Wolfe Publishing, 2017), but the 22 Hornet includes a case capacity about a grain lower (adding a degree of safety), so is a good starting point. Suitable powders include Accurate TCM, Ramshot Enforcer, Accurate 4100, Accurate No. 11 FS, Alliant Power Pro 300-MP, Vihtavuori N110, H-110 and Winchester 296. Armscor brass, to the best of my knowledge, is the only option available to handloaders. Due to the confines of the 9mm Luger magazine, squatty 34- to 45-grain bullets are required, with overall loaded lengths kept to less than about 1.31 inches.Shooting was conducted off a bench using an MTM Case-Guard Predator Shooting Rest with its incorporated wrist rest. I ran five handloaded bullets and Armscor’s 40-grain hollow point factory load. The factory ammo averaged 1,987 fps, with accuracy running more than 3.25 inches at 25 yards. Honestly, accuracy was a bit disappointing, which I blame mostly on the sights, which left the front fiber-optic bead floating inside the rear notch. Many good starts to tight groups were ruined by a single flier—which is all on me. One thing I can say, even with handloads the pistol fed flawlessly throughout testing. Overall group averages ranged from 2.74 to 3.44 inches, with select reloads measuring less than 1-MOA. Cherrypicked highlights can be found in the load chart.A fair question would be, “Why would I buy this pistol?” With some gunsmithing intervention to introduce finer sights or even a dot optic, the 22TCM would make Rock Island Armory 1911.22 TCM Pistol Specifications–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––Model: TCM Series StandardFS 22TCM 10-round HC –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––Manufacturer:Rock Island Armory–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––Country of Origin: Philippines –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––Caliber Tested: 22 TCM–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––Action: Semi-automatic,single action–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––Frame: 4140 ordinance steel,Parkerized finish–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––Slide: 4140 ordinance steel, hand fitted, Parkerized finish–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––Barrel: Stainless steel ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––Barrel Length: 5 inches–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––Capacity: Double stack 10 + 1,two magazines included–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––Trigger Pull As Tested:4.5 pounds–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––Safety: Left-side 1911-stylethumb-operated, ribbedgrip safety –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––Grips: Checkered polymer–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––Sights: Adjustable TRT1 rear, dovetailed red fiber optic front–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––Overall Length: 8.75 inches–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––Weight: 2.5 pound –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––MSRP: $749–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––For more information, visit www.armscor.coma fine small game handgun.
