56 INSIDE ARCHERY APRIL 2024 2024’s Cutting-Edge Broadheads No matter what style of broadhead your customer is looking for, 2024 has them covered. BY PATRICK MEITIN

APRIL 2024 57 INSIDEARCHERY.COM T o me, no single piece of bowhunting equipment is more fascinating, or important, than the broadhead. The broadhead, after all, does the actual killing, slicing through hide, hopefully blasting through bone, and reaping destruction on vital organs for fast and humane kills while also leaving plenty of trailing blood behind for easier recovery. I am always anxious to see the latest designs, looking for something that flies just a little straighter, cuts a little wider, penetrates a little deeper, and promises ever more reliability on punishing hits. Customers seeking the ideal broadhead for the type of game and bowhunting conditions they most frequently face have more options than ever today; from ever more reliable replaceableblade designs to deeper-driving cut-on-contact models, to more efficient and deadly mechanicals. Inside Archery has assembled the examples we believe check all the boxes and ensure steady sales going into the 2024 bowhunting season. Fixed/Replaceable-Blade THORN BROADHEADS • Thorn’s single fixedblade design is the “Crown of Thorns,” a unique design that guarantees straight flight and wide blood trails. The Crown uses four sizes of blades arranged in a helix stack, starting with a conical titanium tip backed by a ⅝-inch-wide blade and working up to ¾-, ⅞- and 1-inch blades while moving toward the ferrule. The .040-inch-thick 440 stainless steel blades are secured by four steel bearings that lock each blade into place. The Crown is streamlined enough for crossbow work, and the box packaging serves as a handy storage case. Go to thornbroadheads.com to learn more. QUALITY ARCHERY DESIGNS (QAD) • Exodus broadheads from QAD are a proven fan favorite that has required no improvements for many years. They are available with Standard, Crossbow, or Deep Six ferrules, in 85-, 100-, and 125-grain weights, and with full or swept blades. All are made from tip-toferrule stainless steel and produce a 1 ¼-inch cutting diameter. The shaving-sharp .040-inch-thick blades are ultra-durable, including .70-inch-long spurs that lock inside a steel ring and into the insert interior, while the swept attack angle and Blade Over Shaft Technology produces a short profile that ensures straight flight and deep penetration. The heavy-duty SST ferrule holds up to punishing hits. Go to qadinc.com to learn more. MUZZY BROADHEADS • Muzzy’s newest refinement of the proven Trocar design, the Trocar Ti, continues to deliver deep penetration and pinpoint accuracy at any speed. Offset blade technology remains, maximizing accuracy, but new adjustable blade technology allows the spooky-sharp .039-inch-thick blades to be used either right or left offset to match a preferred fletching helical/ offset orientation. The stout titanium ferrule holds a three-point contact center blade retention system and a cutting tip. Look for them in three packs holding standard 100-grain, or 100- and 125-grain crossbow models—all including a 1.25-inch cutting diameter. Go to feradyne.com/muzzy-broadheads/ to learn more. SIK BROADHEADS • The SIK F3 holds three .035-inchthick stainless steel blades honed to a razor’s edge. A knurled/threaded rear locking collar anchors the blades solidly and the all-steel one-piece ferrule includes a sleek, bonecrushing hybrid tip. The SIK razor-sharp Winged Blade Design and offset Core Cutting Technology ensure wide blood trails. The all-steel construction and cutting tip ensure dependability on the toughest targets, while also providing field-point accuracy. Go to beararchery.com to learn more. TRIFECTA BROADHEADS • Trifecta is the result of months of exhaustive R&D and an additional six years of development and testing for flight, penetration, and big-game success. Trifecta Broadheads include a tank-tough 420 stainless steel ferrule and a .040-inch-thick single-bevel tip insert that is ⅜-inch wide and cuts 90 degrees to the main blade.

58 INSIDE ARCHERY APRIL 2024 Trifecta’s most popular fixed-/replaceable model is the 100-grain Fixed Blade. This design includes a 1.25-inch-wide cutting diameter made of a one-piece blade that slides through the ferrule center and is anchored by steel screws. All these one-piece broadhead designs (ferrules are separate pieces) are constructed from high-grade stainless steel, engineered to provide optimum penetration on game and split bone. One hundred fifty-grain heads come by using the heads as a glue-on option, sans screw-in adaptors. These broadheads also come with three sets of inserts and three like-weight field points to match the created broadhead weight. The magnesium creates a 175-grain head, the aluminum insert a 200-grain and the stainless-steel insert a 250-grain head—all inserts compatible with standard aluminum or carbon inserts/outserts. Two-blade options include the buyer’s choice of double- or single-bevel cutting edges. Go to beararchery.com to learn more. VANTAGE POINT ARCHERY (VPA) • The Omega from VPA is a nail-tough single-bevel broadhead that is easy to sharpen, accurate and deep driving. The single-bevel edges split bone and create nasty spiral wound channels with 56-58 Rockwell hardness. The Omega successfully combines the desirable features of a single bevel head with the edge strength of a double bevel head through patent-pending LAYFLAT sharpening technology that promotes easy sharpening, as the ferrule acts as a guide rather than a hindrance during the process. These heads are machined from S7 tool steel treated with a black oxide coating for durability and include a smoothly integrated ferrule, sharp Tanto tip for bone breaching, and a diamond cross-section blade for superior cutting performance. The Omega sports a 1 1∕16-inch cutting diameter and are offered in 125-, 150-, 175-, 200-, 250-, 300- and 350-grain right- and left-bevel options. Go to vparchery.com to learn more.

The FJ4 is based on the brand’s standard single-bevel blade and includes two 15∕16-inch-thick bleeder blades inserted directly into the ferrule. The stepped-contour, cut-on-contact design flies true and slices through game like butter. The 100- and 175-grain models provide 2 1 ∕16 inches of total cutting edges, the 125- and 200-grain versions 2 ⅛ inches of cutting edges, and the 150- and 225-grain models 2 ¼ inches. ANNIHILATOR BROADHEADS • Annihilator’s Katana is a 100 percent steel, onepiece cut-on-contact design including 12 total cutting edges—six forward and six rear. The broadhead’s Crosscut Technology shoves mass through the ramp/scoop, creating a “non-rotating” wound channel that locks the head on its original path, which means it doesn’t bleed energy like a traditional two-blade design can. Annihilator’s patented technology also covers the entire arrow shaft for impressive penetration with little to zero drag on the arrow shaft. Also, traditional two-blades are designed to twist or rotate to help with penetration and crack bone and make way for the arrow. Annihilator’s technology simply blows a hole through the bone and allows the arrow to keep doing what it is supposed to—drive forward with no friction. The Katana is available in three sizes, 100-grain/1-inch cut, 125-grain/1-inch cut, and 200-grain/1.25-inch cut. Go to annihilatorbroadheads.com to learn more. TOULOU BROADHEADS • New Toulou Broadheads provide a classic look with a modern and lethal twist. Toulou heads are engineered to provide 180 degrees of rotation every 12 to 14 inches of penetration, while also imparting gyroscopic 2024 Broadheads REX FX4 .30-06 Little Giant Wasp HAVALON HV
