An Allen wrench is used to conduct adjustments inside the trigger guard without the need to disassemble the rifle. The bolt holds an oversized ball head, and removal for cleaning is accomplished through a push-down tab to the right-rear of the action. The unique safety is a vertical two-position plunger behind the bolt shroud—pushed down to fire, up for safe. The safety locks the bolt when engaged, a red cocked indicator protruding from the rear of the bolt shroud when ready to fire. The five-round, double-stack polymer magazine engaged and popped free slickly after deploying a knurled button at the front of the magazine. The 600 Range is bedded in a solid laminated-wood stock, the vertical grip and forearm areas heavily stippled for a good grip. The forearm also includes three large cooling vents, and the comb is height adjustable to align the eye perfectly behind any optic using the integrated, fold-down finger tab. To remove the bolt, the comb must be dropped into its cutout, though adjusting the comb to a higher position does not interfere with cycling while shooting. Two forearm sling studs are provided and a five-slot length of Pic rail is located at the lower butt to hold a rear monopod if wanted. The stock also includes a sandbag butthook, soft recoil pad and QD sockets on both side flats. The barrel was thoroughly floated. Length of pull was a longish 14.6 inches. The 600 Range would prove decidedly heavy for mountain hunting, but is ideally suited to target shooting or guarding agricultural fields or powerline cuts while occupying a stand. The rifle is certainly accurate enough for long-range shooting, and comes with CZ’s new sub-¾-inch accuracy guarantee (five shots/100 meters using match-grade factory ammo). In addition to the 308 Winchester chambering tested, the 600 Range can also be ordered in 6mm Creedmoor with a 1:7 rifling twist to handle the longest 6mm/.243-cal bullets. The 600 Range provided its best reload accuracy using Sierra’s 150-grain Sierra MatchKing seated over 41 grains of Hodgdon H-4895 and Hornady’s 168-grain Match BTHP over 41.4 grains of IMR-4064. Many of the generic factory loads struggled, though Federal Premium’s 175-grain Terminal Ascent load created a sub-½- MOA group at 2,592 fps, while showing very low extreme velocity spreads. The 600 Range is an interesting development in rifle evolution, with five models now available to suit any shooter’s preferences.
