I have to admit that when I pulled the

got a look at that hea ily-re e ed riser

that the bow would be a rough-drawing,
unstable and touchy speed demon. I was
proven pleasantly wrong during setup and
tuning. The Evolution 6 is well behaved,
vibration and shock free, and quite pleasant

unduly tax stiff muscles after several

It is deadly quiet. It is everything a serious

This article has become an annual tradition for Inside
Archery. At the end of every year, we go back and review
each one of our in-depth cover stories, which always
feature highly successful individuals and
companies in the archery industry.

Each of these articles has its own story-
line, its own essence. The industry leaders
we speak with come from varying back-
grounds, and each of their careers took its
own unique path. But something interest-
ing happens when you look at these stories
as a whole. Reoccurring themes and ideas
emerge. Despite different backgrounds and
life experiences, many of the industry’s
leaders seem to share a similar philosophy and business
outlook. In other words, it would appear that the archery
industry has a certain formula for success, which all
great businesses follow in one way or another.

Collected here are some of those reoccurring themes
and ideas. We learned a lot from some of the indus-
try’s brightest minds in 2019, and we hope these in-
sights will help inspire you for 2020 and beyond.

Being the Best

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that
the industry’s most successful com-
panies all strive to be the very best.
Industry leaders have a strong sense
of ambition, and they want to prove that they are
second to none.
“Simply put, our long-term goal is to be num-
ber one,” said Anthony Steil, CEO of The Outdoor
Group. “We’re going to get there with one product
at a time and one dealer at a time. Our goal is to be the best, and
that’s what guides us. We’re going to keep working harder than
the competition and moving the ball forward. Ultimately, that will

allow us to improve the industry
and make it better for our deal-
ers and consumers.”

Being the best also requires
having the best products.

“I don’t want to have 30 dif-
ferent bow models,” said Mark
