8 INSIDE ARCHERY MAY 2026INSIDE THE INDUSTRY INSIDE TRACKThe Next Big Thingfter 30-plus years in the archery industry, I’ve watched trends take hold, and others slowly—or quickly—fizzle. I recall LimbSaver’s first ATA Show, and the dampening revolution it set into motion. I remember when bows transitioned from steel buss cable and teardrop bowstring attachment to full synthetic string systems. These are easy examples. The enduring question in archery retail always is, “What is the next big thing?” I honestly cannot say with any degree of certainty. But I do see trends in where archery gear is heading and what customers are buying.Other than target-specific shafts, the trend in hunting arrows is definitely moving to thinner diameters. Someone must still be buying .244-inch/6.5mm diameter arrows, but I don’t see a lot of them in the field these days. Shafts with .166-/4mm to .204-inch/5mm diameters are where the industry seems to be heading. With this move is also a trend to creating higher F.O.C., usually through heavier insert/outsert systems. This has also made 125-grain broadheads popular again. In bow sights, multi-pin movers and new mounting systems are setting the pace. Three- and five-pin mover sights are all the rage now. Why anyone outside the Rocky Mountain West needs range capabilities beyond the 60 yards provided by fixed fivepin sights is a mystery, but the ability (or thought of) shooting 100-plus yards seems important to many. In treestand/blind scenarios I prefer a three-pin mover, leaving me ready for the vast majority of likely shot distances, while providing the versatility of taking longer shots if needed. That said, most of my current favorites are five-pin movers. These allow practicing at ridiculous ranges during the off-season, while providing all the pins needed in the static position for the Western hunting I do most. The newest sight-mounting systems are more consequential. Mathews started this trend with their proprietary BridgeLock system, with most dovetail extension bars now compatible. More recently, Picatinny systems have become super popular. I see this as the future of sight mounting—streamlined, better balanced, and more bow brands every year accommodate the approach. There are still die-hard static arrow-rest fans out there, who usually quote simplicity as the reason to choose such designs. That said, drop-away arrow rests are now vastly more dependable, and much easier to install and tune. The average limbdriven drop-away rest, for instance, can be installed and tuned in less than 5 minutes. Still, securing a down-buss-cable activation cord adds just 10 or 15 minutes to the operation.Arrow fletching also seems to be evolving—2.5- to 3-inch vanes with more thoughtful engineering becoming increasingly popular. Too, gold-standard 2-by-½-inch “broadhead vanes” are more frequently seen in the latest trend of four-fletched configurations today—made more practical by drop-away arrow rests.I could continue, including hybrid broadhead designs, longer stabilizers and back/V-bars (and the adoption of stabilizers in general by more bowhunters), cellular trail cams, handier bow-carrying products and integral bow-tuning systems, but I seem to have run out of space…AInside Archery®is a publication ofApollo Creative IncPrinted in the USA.Publisher Apollo Creative IncExecutive EditorPatrick Meitin • [email protected] EditorMichaelean Pike • [email protected] Costa | Michaelean PikeKurt Smith | Taylor WalstonSales & Marketing DirectorStephen Mack • [email protected](814) 341-9313Design & ProductionER Graphics / Ed Rother • [email protected] & Production ManagerAshley Byler • [email protected] Media ManagerJason AsheVideo EditorMarc BalistreriAccount Manager Pam Ludlam • [email protected] Services & Change of Address:Inside Archery® Circulation Department Inside Archery, PO Box 986, Levittown, PA 19055-9998 Phone: (844) 862-9286 • Fax: (888) [email protected] OfficeInside Archery® / Apollo Creative IncP.O. 10 INSIDE ARCHERY MAY 2026INSIDE THE INDUSTRY YOUR ATA INSIGHTSt some point almost every successful pro shop owner begins to think about what’s next.Business is steady, your customers are loyal and you find yourself wondering whether it’s time to grow. But before you commit to anything, it’s worth understanding what expansion actually means, and what it truly requires.Expansion doesn’t always mean knocking down walls or signing a new lease. Growing your business can happen one of two ways: increasing your physical footprint, or broadening what you offer within your existing space. The increase of space is relatively straightforward—add more square footage so you can carry more products within your existing categories. Expansion through added offerings might include things like adding leagues and lessons to your range or bringing in products from a complementary category such as hiking gear, camping ABY KURT SMITH, ARCHERY TRADE ASSOCIATIONequipment or outdoor cooking supplies that would be merchandised within your existing space. Each of these types of expansion comes with its own sets of opportunities and challenges. Before we talk about how to get started, let’s step back and consider the pros and cons of taking this leap. Pros ■ Expansion gives your current customers another reason to visit. Your existing customer base is your most valuable asset. When you add new products or services that align with their interests, you create additional reasons for them to walk through your door, even on days when they weren’t planning to buy a new bow or set of arrows. A customer who comes in for a league night might pick up accessories. A camper browsing your new outdoor cooking section might book a lesson for their kid. Expansion, done right, deepens the relationship you already have with the people who trust you most.Another benefit is that customers will likely spend more time in your store. There’s a direct correlation between time spent and money spent. Programming like lessons, clinics and leagues keeps customers engaged on-site for longer periods, which naturally increases the likelihood of additional purchases. A range with active programming becomes a destination, not just a stop. This also helps build a broader community around your business. One of the most powerful things a local pro shop can do is become a gathering place. Expanding your offerings—whether through events, new product categories or structured programming—attracts new faces and creates shared experiences. That sense of community is something online retailers simply cannot replicate, and it becomes one of your strongest competitive advantages. From a profitability standpoint, expansion can reduce the impact of seasonal markets. Archery sales can be cyclical. Bowhunting drives fall revenue, but spring and summer can feel slow in many regions. Expanding into complementary categories or year-round programming helps smooth out those seasonal dips and creates more consistent cash flow throughout the year.Cons ■ Expansion requires a real investment of time and resources. There is no such thing as a low-effort expansion. Whether you’re launching a new product category or starting up a league program, success demands dedicated attention to planning, promotion, staffing and follow-through. Half-committed expansions often do more harm Pros & Cons of Expanding Your Archery Pro Shop

MAY 2026 INSIDE ARCHERYthan good, sending customers a message that the new offering isn’t a priority.Your current staff may be excellent at what they do today, but expansion often requires new skills, additional capacity or specialized knowledge. Before moving forward, honestly assess whether your team is ready, and factor in the time and cost of hiring or training if they’re not. A new service offering or product category is only as good as the people delivering it.Maybe the most important reality check for any expansion plan is remembering that more revenue doesn’t automatically mean a better bottom line. New products and services bring new overhead like inventory costs, equipment, marketing, staff time and more. If the revenue generated doesn’t meaningfully exceed those added costs, the expansion may look busy without actually improving your financial position.Tips for Exanding Wisely ■ First, make sure to do your research before starting an expansion. The most important question to contemplate is, what problem am I solving for my customers? Is there a genuine, demonstrated need for what you’re considering, or is this something that just seems appealing? Talk to your customers. Look at what similar shops are doing and validate the demand before you invest. You should also determine if this expansion will primarily serve the people already walking through your door or will it require significant marketing investment to reach an entirely new audience? The answer has major implications for your timeline and budget. Expansions that deepen relationships with existing customers tend to be lower risk than those that depend on finding a new customer base from scratch. One of the most practical steps you can take when expanding is to treat the addition as a business within a business. In other words, track the revenue, expenses and overhead of your expansion separately from your core operations. Doing so gives you a clear, honest picture of whether the new venture is contributing to your overall business goals—or quietly draining resources from the parts of your business that are already working.Growth is one of the most exciting chapters in a shop owner’s journey. Approach it with the same care and expertise you bring to serving your customers, and it can take your business to an entirely new level. 20 INSIDE ARCHERY MAY 2026Most archers probably don’t spend a lot of time thinking about securing targets to backers, especially given everyone’s schedule and time commitments these days. Sure, that can sometimes be frustrating, and the solutions haven’t been great or effective. But it’s one of those small frustrations that indeed wastes time, money and focus. But the funny thing about small frustrations is that, over time, they often become big frustrations and time wasters—exactly the kind of thing that might discourage a beginner from shooting their bow in their backyard or throw a seasoned archer off their game. What appears to be a little thing at first glance can so often snowball into a big thing. And that’s exactly what Ben Berry of TargetTack® set out to fix. He and his wife Julie, along with some family and friends, are focused on solving those seemingly small problems that frustrate shooters and ranges, saving them time, money and easing the friction that might make target practice feel like it’s not worth it that day. And while they’re focused on ensuring those little problems don’t become big problems, they’re also committed to doing business their way—manufacturing in the United States and forging win-win partnerships with both their customers and the businesses they work with, all while promoting the shooting sports and encouraging families to spend more time together.A Family of InnovatorsWith his parents’ permission, Ben got his first rifle when he was 14. A year later, after seeing how much he enjoyed shooting, his father purchased him a Bear Whitetail Hunter compound bow. His love for the shooting sports only grew when he, like his father before him, joined the military, enlisting in the Army at 19.A natural leader, Ben was soon drawn to the officer corps. Once he became an officer, he served in a number of roles, learning new skills and building important friendships. Eventually, he transitioned out of the Army and got into the technology field. Once again, he worked his way into management and leadership roles. His wife Julie was also in the technology field. She has earned a degree in computer information systems and has worked in IT her entire career. She was inspired to serve our country in the defense industry as an IT executive, building on a legacy of combined family military service to our country. The two moved to Maine. They started a number of companies, learning the ins and outs of running an effective business. Ben also credits his father with teaching him valuable lessons on how business works and developing a critical thinking mindset.“I had a paper route when I was eight,” he said. “Sunday papers were huge. I rode my bike to deliver the papers, and I had to make multiple trips. My dad asked why it took so long. I explained that I couldn’t carry many on my bike. I asked if I could use his truck—back then, a kid could sit on the tailgate and nobody cared. He said I could, but I had to hire him. I had to pay for his time and for the wear and tear on his vehicle. He was teaching me business principles, even though I didn’t know it at the time.”Although the Berrys were a family of enBY MICHAELEAN PIKEWhen Little ThingsBecome Big ThingsWhen Little ThingsBecome Big ThingsWhen Little Things Become Big Things

22 INSIDE ARCHERY MAY 2026trepreneurs, they never started a productbased business.Until, that is, Ben found himself dealing with a frustrating situation while shooting in his backyard.“I was trying to shoot a turkey target on a bag with my compound bow,” he recalled. “I was using the staple gun—typical stuff that people have at their house to put up a target. It didn’t stick too well, and when I tried to pull my arrows out, the target came off. Now, I’ve put up a lot of targets over the years and dealt with a lot of frustrations. That day, I guess I got more upset than usual. My wife sees me throw the staple gun down and say a few choice words. She asked, ‘What’s got your goat?’ I told her even these longer staples wouldn’t hold my target to the backstop.“She said, ‘We have grandkids. You can’t be cussing, so go invent something.’”“Ben’s an entrepreneur by nature,” Julie said. “He’s always been an inventor, and he’s always wanted to fix problems. So I told him—partly tongue in cheek—he should invent something better if he was aggravated with tape and staples.”So he did. “I gave it some thought,” he said. “I started thinking through some of the issues that I’ve run into across different shooting settings and talked to some of my buddies—military, hunters, competition shooters. I realized we might have something here.”He got some help from Julie.“Ben designed the original product,” she said. “I thought of the little spiral kind of thing, which, after talking with Ben, turned into the serrated edge.”The Berrys solicited input from other family members as well.“Our son is in biomedical engineering, and he helped us with the ergonomic head, overall design physics and material options,” Julie said. “Then Ben thought of an eyelet on the ergonomic head you could hang things from.”The result was the TargetTack, a reusable target-retention fastener that allows shooters to quickly, easily and securely pin target faces to a wide variety of targets and backstops. We talk a lot about innovation when it comes to archery. Faster, smoother bows. Deadlier broadheads. Better-penetrating arrows. But, Ben thought, no one had thought to innovate in this one very frustrating area. He had seen others, including himself, waste time, money and disrupt the flow or process when shooting across different shooting sport industries.“Everybody has evolved some aspect of the shooting sports, but nobody looked at the fastener being a modular tool,” he said. “We decided it may be simple, but nobody’s done anything with it or addressed costly and bulky single-point use solutions, instead of looking at how a modular fastener could streamline operations and generate revenue opportunities. We created something that has forever changed how people hang or secure their targets.”Starting LocalWith sketches in hand, the couple looked for someone who could help them get started. It was important to them, even in the beginning, to do as much locally as possible. That’s how they came across STEAMfruit, an industrial design company in Biddeford, Maine. “We’re trying to bring productization and manufacturing back to Maine,” Julie said. “I think we need to bring manufacturing and productization capabilities to this country in general, but we’ll start in Maine. We met with Michael Vickery, founder and CEO of STEAMfruit, who partnered with us going through a few design iterations to come up with the final product.”“We believe in things being American made,” Ben added. “It’s not just about us. It’s about the community we live in and the whole shooting sports industry.”Exceptional DurabilityOne of the most important qualities Ben was looking for in his newly designed TargetTack products was durability and reusability. Part of that came from his military experience.“Anything that was put into our hands in the military had to be reliable and had to work every time,” he explained. “I have that same mentality about anything we do here. We don’t cut corners. We’d rather invest and make sure that we’re producing a very durable, reusable, American-made

We have some TargetTacks we’ve been using on my family’s farm that have been outdoors for several years. We haven’t had to replace them. They’re very durable.”“It’s a quality product,” Julie agreed. “We want to make sure it’s a product that people can use over and over again.”As some people close to Ben have pointed out, that doesn’t seem like the best business decision.“We’ve had some family members say, ‘Why are you making something so durable? People won’t need to buy more,’” Ben said. But Ben and Julie won’t skimp on quality just to make a little more money.“There are 70 million target shooters between all the shooting sports in the United States alone,” Ben said. “If we can just capture 5 percent of that market over the next five years, that’s a very viable business for us and our business partners.”More Than Just a FastenerAnother set of principles Ben followed is that whenever possible, products should be multi-purpose, low profile and lightweight.“We created the TargetTack eyelet,” he said. “You can snap in a connector and be able to extend that connector to have, for example, a placard for a lane or target identifier, or even a wind indicator.“We’ve grown into this notion that we’re the only modular fastener in the shooting sports industry. If you look at most fasteners out there, they serve one purpose and they may only put up a target on one type of backer. We span multiple backstops, multiple sports, and we continue to expand our initial investment with our flagship TargetTack fasteners. We included this modularity and versatility aspect from the start in our patent-pending design.”TargetTack’s new TargetTack Snap System™, currently in BETA field trials, will make the product exceptionally useful for clubs, ranges, training facilities and organizations. Although the TargetTack Snap System official release has not been announced, the couple anticipates releasing a limited preorder after BETA field trials later this year to those organizations, clubs and dealers who pre-register on their web-❝Two American made products, one seamless range experience. Bigshot and Delta McKenzie Targets give archers a backstop built to last while reusable TargetTack® modular pins make sure paper faces stay exactly where they need to be. Together, they eliminate the hassle and save time, so shooters can focus on what they came in the range to do.❞—Brandon Perelli, BIGshot and Delta McKenzie Sales Director

MAY 2026 INSIDE ARCHERY 25site on a first-come, firstserved basis.“For nonprofits and organizations, sponsorships are important,” Ben explained. “One of the things we saw is that every target backer could become a mini billboard for a sponsor to help those nonprofits add revenue. You just snap in a connector and a placard, and now clubs have a way to attach sponsorship to traditional backstops and 3-D targets. Every 3-D target can have its own sponsor now, driving revenue to help offset operating costs and create fundraising opportunities. The placards are currently being planned for two different sizes, with one being 5 by 7 inches and the other a smaller business-card size. It doesn’t distract from the target you’re shooting at, but when you go up to grab your arrows or bolts, you’ll see the sponsor’s branding and lane or target number identification.” At ATA and the Vegas Shoot this year, Ben and the family heard from multiple organizations, clubs and competitive archers that the TargetTack Snap System is a game changer, with one organization ready to buy 500 placards on the spot. The TargetTack Snap System can also be used for wind indicators for training and for other uses.“Although we’re not a replacement for any kind of safety device or your existing safety rules, policies and training, we can help streamline communication for different operational needs,” Ben said. “You can use the Snap System to put up a notice that a lane or a particular target backstop is closed. We’re all about enhancing operations and communication for your range, club or tournament. We also know understanding shot placement and the effects of wind is important, so we decided to include a simple snap-in wind indicator that gives archers and marksmen alike an easy way to train wind direction without needing to carry bulky wind flags.”Focused on AffordabilityAnother major issue Ben and Julie are concerned with is affordability. If they can help consumers, businesses and organizations save money, that’s what they want to do.“Everything has gotten so expensive,” Ben said. “We saw that we could potentially help promote the shooting sports and fundraising throughthe use of TargetTack products.”The fact that TargetTacks are so durable and reusable helps a great deal with that. So does the fact that clubs and nonprofits can use TargetTack products to offer fundraising and sponsorship opportunities. But even though their American-made TargetTacks are already affordable, Ben and Julie remain committed to streamlining their manufacturing and business processes to provide their business partners and dealers with the best margins possible at an affordable MSRP price for consumers.“There’s a huge affordability challenge for small businesses,” Ben said. “We want to make sure the margins are there for the retailers so everybody is getting a win from how we operate our business. One of the things we’re looking at is how we can lower prices while maintaining good margins. The only way to do that is to improve our manufacturing and business processes and cut costs in terms of how we bring our products to market and operate our business day to day.”Currently, TargetTacks are manufactured through a family-owned business partner, Cornucopia Tool & Plastic in California. Ben and Julie have also been looking for additional manufacturers on the East Coast to produce TargetTacks and other planned inventions for the eastern part of the country. Increased shipping costs are one area the couple is looking to address.“Shipping from the West Coast has gotten expensive,” Ben said. “It’s great if we’re shipping to the West or the Midwest, but shipping from California to Maine, especially for our packaging, adds real costs to the bottom line, making it very challenging for small businesses like ours. 26 INSIDE ARCHERY MAY 2026ing to add manufacturing capability and redundancy on the East Coast, preferably Maine or New Hampshire, to reduce costs and establish business continuity.”Introducing TargetTacksBen and Julie funded the company themselves, continuing to work their day jobs while getting the new business off the ground. They registered the business in June 2022, with product initially available for sale that October.Retired U.S. Army Colonel Kevin Butler served with Ben and has remained a close friend and brother ever since. A current advisor to the company, he recalled his first experience with TargetTacks.“I thought, ‘Okay. It’s a target tack,’” Kevin said. “But then he sent it to me and I held it in my hand, and it all made sense. I shoot a lot. And with the TargetTacks, I don’t carry tape anymore. I don’t carry staples. I don’t carry a staple gun. I’ve got more room for other gear in my bag. It solved a lot of problems that I didn’t know I had.”The product’s first major test in proving market fit came when Ben and Julie attended a local gun show with their daughter Lauren and son-in-law Jordan, who met and served together in the Navy.“We sold to about 5 percent of the people coming through, people who had never seen or heard of TargetTack,” Ben said. “That’s where we started getting real customer feedback. And it was incredibly well received. I’d hoped to get the word out about the product and maybe make a sale or two. We ended up selling far more than I expected, and close to half of the show attendees now know about a new product made by a local couple in Maine.”At that point, Lauren asked if they’d heard about SHOT Show. “We need to be there,” she told them. It was expensive and felt like a risk, but it seemed like the next step. Luckily, Ben didn’t need to do it alone. In addition to their four children—Lauren, Eben, Ethan and Cortney—assisting with the business, Ben and Julie had help from their son-in-law Jordan, who is a a firearm enthusiast; Ben’s two sisters and their husbands, Lisa and Craig Bolla and Kim and Scott Parsonage, who live in California; and Kevin Butler and his wife Jennifer, all of whom enthusiastically support the com-

MAY 2026 27 INSIDE ARCHERYpany at trade shows and other events and have had an impact on the company’s success and growth.“Although we exhibited at the SHOT Show for three years with very good success, this year we decided to do ATA, the Vegas Shoot, NASP Eastern Conference and the NECS NorthEast Championship Series instead,” Ben said. “I’m so glad we made the decision to invest in the archery industry and its wonderful communities, families and archers. My brother-in-law Craig said we needed to attend archery shows. I felt like there was more competition in terms of target pins in archery initially, whereas in firearms there isn’t. But I found the ATA Show and Vegas Shoot to be more aligned with our overall company values and see more multi-sport members who cross over to firearm categories than from the firearm industry crossing over to archery categories. We’re so focused on family, and archery really is more of a true family sport than what is currently available in firearms shooting sports.”Consumers, dealers and business partners are seeing the advantages of using the TargetTack products. “We’re expanding into Canada and beyond,” Ben said. “We inked a deal with North American Hunting Supplies in Canada. Our farthest archery shop selling TargetTacks is in Australia, through Lancaster Archery. We recently signed on with Three Rivers Archery to expand other U.S. and international opportunities. We now have over 120 retailers and thousands of marksmen and archers worldwide who bought and are using our TargetTacks. At the Vegas Shoot with our son Ethan, we had U.S. and several different countries’ competitive and pro-level archers come by our booth to buy and share positive feedback on our products, including the TargetTack Snap System and our new Gamified Practice Targets. We had several Vegas Shoot competition professionals run with our TargetTacks, and they all said these were the best pins they have used to date. One pro mentioned our TargetTacks improved their overall flow during the tournament.”Despite the fact that TargetTacks last a long time, some clubs and organizations are finding an unexpected reason to buy more.“One of our training facility customers said they needed to reorder a bunch more,” Julie said. “I was surprised as the pins shouldn’t need to be replaced so soon. But our contact explained that people loved them so much, they were asking to take them home for their own personal use.”The Biggest ChallengeJulie told us that the company’s biggest hurdle now is simply getting the word out about TargetTack.“As soon as people hear about us, they find it cool and ingenious,” she said. “As soon as they try it, they buy.”Ben agreed.“Our TargetTack has so many advantages across the entire shooting sport industry,” he said. “The serrated edge, which many say is a game changer, holds better to several different backstops without the frustrations. If you hit a metal nail or washer, you can damage your arrow or bolt. But we’ve designed the TargetTack to ensure that as long as it’s not a direct hit, your arrow or bolt should glance off the ergonomic head and won’t be damaged. Another frustration at firearm ranges and training facilities is that metal clips cause ricochets and finger injuries when shot at. With our TargetTacks, these frustrations are minimized and, in most cases, eliminated. It’s easy. A lot of people say, ‘Why didn’t I think of that?’”“When we show them exactly what it does, they look at it and realize what it means,” Kim’s husband Scott said. “They’re like, ‘Why would I need tape, staples or spray glue anymore?’ And when they realize TargetTacks can be used in all weather conditions and saves them a significant space and weight in their range bag, you can see it in their face.”Ben’s other sister Lisa said people also appreciate the company as a whole.“People say it’s a great story and a great product after they hear how it all began,” she said.Adding Complementary ProductsBen and Julie have turned their innovative energy to paper targets.“We recently launched some paper targets manufactured in New Hampshire,” Ben said. “We hadn’t really found any humidity-resistant targets we liked that worked for both archery and firearms, so we created our own. We came up with targets that had a little bit of science, a little bit of skill building and a lot more fun. We saw an opportunity to do a gamified target series that could be customized, which we call the Shot Showdown Challenge™. We also sell matching 12x12 practice targets for each of the Shot Showdown Challenge Target Series Zones. Archers and marksmen can test their setup with our Warm-Up Targets, verify accuracy with our Bullzone Targets, ensure precision with our Call Your Shot Targets and finally add some fun while building skills with our Trick-Shot Targets.”In addition, TargetTack is working on another new idea that will launch in 2026.“It’s a twist on the design of the Tar-❝At our inaugural S3DA Open, held in conjunction with the 2026 ATA Show and NFAA Rushmore Rumble, TargetTack contributed to a very smooth and successful event. They have trusted business partners.“When we look at business partners, we want people that are more strategic than transactional, who look for mutual business opportunities,” Ben explained. “We want to have a win-win relationship with the people we work with, creating reciprocal business benefits.”Cornucopia Tool & Plastic does the company’s manufacturing and helps with its product packaging.“It’s run by a great family we met at the SHOT Show, who have a ton of experience not only in manufacturing but also in the retail industry,” Ben said. “My sister Lisa helped connect us with the owners, Jason and Shannon. They have been one of the strategic business partners who have directly contributed to our overall success and growth.”TargetTack also works with Calathea Creative, founded by Jessica Bull, on branding, marketing and social media.“She’s been amazing,” Ben said. “If you look at our Instagram and publication ads from when we started to what it looks like now, you’ll see how much she’s helped us with our new branding and messaging.“Other great people helped us get started building our foundation and contributed hours to our early success in the market. Our daughter Lauren jumped in, helping to get everything launched and supporting our day-to-day operations. We connected with Brent Robinson, founder of Hydravideo, through the SHOT Show. He helped us at a critical point with early video content creation, connections in the industry and some initial branding concepts.”STEAMfruit helps with industrial design, product modeling and 3-D printing. “Michael’s helped us understand the productization lifecycle and manufacturing side of things,” Ben said. “And we have formed a business partnership in Maine to bring new product ideas, like VersaTack, to market, as well as other inventions we are currently working on.”Finally, Apollo Creative helps with paper supplies and products.“They have been in this direct market industry for a long time,” Ben explained. “They know the paper business. They can bring other experiences in to help us make better decisions.”Military best-Buddy Kevin Butler is not surprised by Ben’s commitment to winwin partnerships.“Ben is the most ethical person I have ever met,” Kevin said. “He is extremely loyal. He’ll give you the shirt off of his back. He’s a really, really good guy. I would fight in many a foxhole with him.”Partnering with Business Partners and DealersThat win-win approach to partnerships extends to the company’s retail partners and dealers. It’s vital to TargetTack that its products give dealers an edge.Ben pointed out that the TargetTack makes a great American-made product to plug into your existing product lines and at your checkout counter.“It’s a great sale item by itself,” he said. “It’s something new, something different, especially for those retailers selling two-season sport accessories. But you can also bundle the TargetTack with backers and other industry paper targets. We’ve recently partnered with a fantastic family who owns and operates BIGShot and Delta McKenzie Targets, and we’re looking to partner with other target companies that have the same values and customer needs. TargetTacks are a great upsell. And they’re American-made. We also offer an expanded accessory line with our recent Gamified Practice Target and our soon-to-be-released Snap System.”In addition, dealers can use TargetTacks on their own retail ranges and testing facilities, making securing target faces to targets faster and easier.“They also look better aesthetically,” Ben said. “If you have them all lined up, they

30 INSIDE ARCHERY MAY 2026look nicer. For competitions, clubs and ranges, the clean look matters.”Julie stressed that business partners and dealers can expect good margins when working with TargetTack.“They get very fair margins,” she said. “When we partner with an organization or dealer, we want them to love our product and we want to make sure there’s a fair distribution of profits we can share with them and across their channels.”The company also goes out of its way to offer exceptional customer service. “We’re constantly in tune with our customers,” Julie said. “If orders come in, we fill them immediately. If people order the wrong thing, we’ve covered shipping to send them the correct product even though it’s not our mistake. We do a lot for our customers because we know how easy it is to make a mistake in this busy world. We strive to make sure everyone knows that our name and reputation are more important than the products we sell, but also that our product is what they need.”Additional PartnershipsTargetTack has also partnered with organizations like S3DA. It’s another example of how the company approaches working with other people.“S3DA used our TargetTacks for their tournament at the ATA Show this year,” Ben said. “The organizational leaders and most importantly the youth archers love them. Recently, S3DA has joined our reseller program, and we have joined them in their mission as a bronze partner sponsor. We are all about supporting and promoting family shooting sports. I met with S3DA’s Executive Director Cody Kirby to explore additional opportunities to further promote family archery. I told him there was something else we could do for S3DA with our new Gamified Target product line: We could make an S3DA-specific Shot Showdown Challenge™ target with additional practice targets to promote family fun archery and provide club coaches a new tool for fun training. We discussed putting some specific archery skill-building target zones in there, but we will make it fun so it keeps families, coaches and archers interested and engaged, especially during the breaks in the competitive seasons. We can

We’ve supported other nonprofits like the Boy Scouts, and we’ve donated to other nonprofits across the country.”Giving back is important to Ben and Julie.“There was one nonprofit in particular that we liked a lot,” Ben said. “A lot of families can’t afford to buy archery equipment for their kids, so this nonprofit fundraises to be able to purchase equipment and rent it out to families at an affordable price, the same way kids rent musical instruments at school. We donated TargetTacks to that organization for this cause.“We also recently donated a bunch of TargetTacks to a mental health challenge event for veterans, law enforcement and firefighters.”The Future of Target TackCurrently, TargetTack is available in four colors—original orange, lime green, teal and pink. (TargetTack offered a custom dark blue TargetTack for the United States Concealed Carry Association and its 850,000 members.) The pins are also available in two sizes and are currently sold in 6 and 12 packs with loose bulk options.Last year, TargetTack reached a point where Ben was able to go full-time with the company. Although Ben and Julie are still the only official employees, they get a ton of support from business partners, family and friends.Recently, the Veteran Business Outreach Center of New England nominated TargetTack for an SBA award, a meaningful moment for a company and family that strives to put its values first. That’s part of what Julie enjoys so much about the company.“We’ve done some things with police departments,” she said. “The feedback we got was that they don’t get a lot of range time, but now, when they do get time, they spend more time training and less time setting up, swapping targets and breaking down the range. It feels good to be part of eliminating those nuisances for them.“We’re putting good products in good people’s hands to let them have some fun, while training with purpose. We’ve helped out the military and we’ve helped out police officers. I think we’re doing a good thing here.”Ben and Julie have no plans to slow down.“We’re looking at doing a competition pin,” Ben said. “We’re working on the next wave of the Snap System, looking to create a way to bring technology to the target backer. We want to find a way to turn every target backer and backstop into a mini billboard for communication for sponsorship or advertising. We’ve seen challenges around how technology can be affixed to a target backer, and we want to be that fastener where innovative tech can be connected to our TargetTacks.”Of course, TargetTack continues to work to get the word out about the value of its products to the many shooters who rely on them every range day.“As my wife says, TargetTacks are an essential,” Ben said. “They’re a no-brainer, lightweight, low-profile, space-saving product for your range bag. You throw four to six of these in a pouch, and you’ve got a way to hang your target faces and add additional lane or target accessories. For the cost of a couple of ice cream cones, you get a six-pack of TargetTacks that will save you time, storage space and frustration. Retailers and ranges with pro shops now have a great product they can upsell, bundle with existing top sellers or have at their checkout counter.”But Ben and Julie never lose sight of the big things.“We’ve been blessed,” Ben said. “Getting to do this with our large family—even my parents known as have stuffed a product clamshell or two. Getting to work with our business partners, dealers and industry influencers. Receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from all types of target shooters, from beginners to pros. We see serving this amazing shooting sport community for generations to come.“We are committed to keeping our overhead low. We started out of our barn, and we have an area in our basement to operate from. We’re truly a small business in the early stages trying to achieve our fiveyear goal of selling to 5 percent of the 70 million target shooters in the U.S. And we do it because we value American family traditions, especially the shooting sports.“Whatever we can do to promote and support family shooting sports, that’s part of the reason we started this business.“If you had asked me that day a few years ago if I could believe putting up an archery target with a staple gun would have caused all of this to happen, I would have said you’re bonkers.” IA❝We really enjoyed welcoming the TargetTack family to NABA. TargetTack has revolutionized the ability to hold paper targets for indoor and outdoor shooting sports no matter the backstop, and they continue to bring new innovative products and improve sport. ❞—Kelly Kelly, Executive Director of NABA

MAY 2026 INSIDE ARCHERY 33Even customers prone to holding onto the same compound bow for years are open to upgrading accessories frequently to milk a few more seasons out of a bow. Two of the most consequential bow accessories are the bow sight and rest. These are the bow accessories that can make the most difference in helping an older bow shoot its best. The modern bow sight is at the center of the precision we enjoy today, stacking arrows into tight groups at unprecedented ranges, while the latest arrow rests start those shots off on the right track. Both of these accessories have never been better, offering real advancements to confident aiming and straight arrow flight, tuning small flaws in the way we aim across various terrains or tweak the very last bobble from our arrow flight. 40MARKET TRENDS GEAR REPORTINSIDE ARCHERY MAY 2026UBY PATRICK MEITINTreelimb ProductsPremium 5-Arrow Quiverreturned nearly instantly without levers or tabs to manipulate. The Premium 5-Arrow Quiver’s ruggedness stems from a machined aluminum frame and rigid contoured hood, which create one of the stoutest quivers in the business—which also protects arrows exceptionally well. Arrows are thoroughly secured through Treelimb’s patented Broadhead Capture System hood, which ensures a quiet and secure grip on fixed-blade or mechanical broadheads. This rubber hood insert includes various molded-in shapes and orifices to accept a wide variety of blade configurations and actively grip the front end of the arrow, preventing rattling or loose arrows, even after repeated shooting. Additionally, the exclusive Teardrop Gripper provides a kung-fu grip on 6.5mm to 4mm arrows, eliminating rattling or dislodging in the heat of battle. Treelimb Thumb Tabs allow effortless insertion and removal. The entire quiver can be removed and returned nearly instantly with the twist of Treelimb’s Tension Lock System (TLS). p front, as a largely Western bowhunter who does a lot of spot-and-stalk hunting, I’m not particularly fond of bow quivers. When ranges stretch or a breeze stirs, a bow-attached quiver can upset the inhand balance of the average bow. This can be mitigated considerably with a solid two-piece quiver design, but when prowling Western habitats I generally prefer my arrow quiver to ride on my daypack. That said, when I’m confined to an elevated treestand or ground blind, I find a detachable bow quiver a valuable addition to any hunting setup. Preferably something lightweight and compact that can be removed with minimal fuss and kept close at hand. One quiver including all these attributes is found in Treelimb Products’ Premium 5-Arrow Quiver. The Premium 5-Arrow Quiver is nail tough, holds arrows securely and can be removed/TLS hinges on the quiver’s cleverlymilled frame, which pops onto dual rollers to twist into position and lock solidly. The solid-aluminum upper and rubber-dampened lower post work to minimize vibrations and post-shot noise, if a shooter chooses to leave the quiver in place while shooting.Instead of sandwiching on top of the bow sight like most single-point quiver-mounting systems, Treelimb Products uses a bow riser’s top quivermount socket. Each quiver comes with a Triangle, Mini Hex and Oval mounting stud. Triangle studs are compatible with Bear, Elite, Martin and some Bowtech bows, for instance, the Mini Hex fit for APA Archery, Hoyt and some Bowtech models, while the Oval option serves as a universal mount for most other brands.I used a triangle mounting system on a 2026 Martin Archery bow, resulting in a rock-solid connection free of vibrations or the slightest amount of play while twisting the quiver on the tight roller detach system. A horizontal post with locking bolt allows moving the quiver laterally to adjust how tight the quiver rides to the riser. A built-in Treelimb Hanger allows hanging the loaded quiver from a bow hanger or convenient limb after climbing into a stand.Check out Treelimb Products by visiting treelimbventures.com. 42 INSIDE ARCHERY MAY 2026As difficult as it might be to grasp for those of us who live, breath and eat bowhunting, not every archery customer cares to fill tags and stock freezers with organic meat. An entire world of archers live only to punch paper and skewer foam targets on ranges and in backyards around the globe. Of course, there is a lot of crossover between bowhunters and target archers, but alienating non-hunting archers is to miss out on a heap of potential business. Obviously bowhunters might happily tote their hunting bow onto the 3-D course for welcomed real-world practice, but even the die-hard bowhunter will often invest in a second set of equipment dedicated just to addressing targets. To follow is just a sampling of the gear to appeal to serious target archers this season.TargetsBIGSHOT TARGETS ● The Perelli Mat System from BIGshot allows building an archery backstop for any archery discipline or need. 50 INSIDE ARCHERY MAY 2026Five Questions with BIGshot ArcheryINSIDE THE INDUSTRY INDUSTRY 5QFor more than 20 years, BIGshot Archery has developed innovative target solutions designed around the needs of today’s archers. Inside Archery spoke with Al Perelli to learn more about the company’s new Tournament Grade Mat lineup, including the Perelli Modular Mat System and the new Round Field Mat for ranges nationwide.more economical Round Field Mat is designed for the domestic market. The BIGshot Round Mat comes with an integral core for easy replacement and matches many of the club’s current round mat inventory ensuring consistency across their range. We use the same Nano Infused foam in the core and offer an XL core for increased durability. BIGshot emphasizes “easy arrow removal” as a major selling point of the new mat systems. How does BIGshot ensure easy arrow removal without compromising stopping power and durability? ■ BIGshot has developed a unique foam system with nano particles infused in our custom designed polyol for our targets. Combined with the design (Shape and Depth) of the target, we can guarantee an easy arrow pull. Whether you are shooting crossbow, compound or recurve, we can achieve the performance required, both in durability and ease of pull. What kind of incentives or buyer programs does BIGshot extend to dealers to make your company’s target lineup more appealing than the competition? ■ We offer the best buying terms in the market, including free freight and dating which has contributed to more dealers stocking BIGshot products around the world. But ultimately it is the performance of the target and the best customer incentives that have grown the Brand over the past 20 years. Learn more at bigshottargets.comWhat are some of the most persistent issues archers and ranges experience while using current field mats on the market today, and how did BIGshot solve those problems? ■ Over the years we have continually heard field Archers, Coaches and Pro Shops express dissatisfaction with the current available solutions. The affordable mats made of scrap material are inconsistent quality, always hard to pull and leave residue on the arrows. The higher quality mats are super expensive and hard to pull. This was the driving force to introduce the Modular Perelli Field Mat and Now the Traditional Round Field Mat. Both are doing extremely well.BIGshot introduced both the Perelli Modular Mat System and the new traditional round field mat. Can you explain the differences between the two and what each product is designed for? ■ The premium Perelli Modular System solves multiple problems including durability ease of pull and cost of ownership. The Perelli Mat System is outlasting everything in the market today due to the 9-cube design. The unique system allows you to essentially rotate 9 blocks (cores) to the center which alleviates the core wear problem when every arrow is essentially hitting the center. We also designed the mat to be 12 inches deep to add durability to the equation. While the Perelli Modular System has been a big success internationally, the hat is the new BIGshot Tournament Grade Mat line all about, and what inspired the development of these new target solutions? ■ At BIGshot Archery we use a market focused development process to define current and future needs. Traditionally we have focused on crossbow users who were looking for ease of pull and durability. We developed the Ballistic Line of Bag Targets stopping arrows up to 450 FPS. As Crossbows began to exceed that speed rating we saw a need for a higher end affordable crossbow target. The IRON Man series high compression target was developed over 10 years ago, and is now the number one crossbow target brand in the crossbow market. We used the same market focused development process when looking at the Recreational and Field Tournament Market.W
