2 The 24 th Osaka International Music Competition Objectives of the Osaka International Music Competition: The spirit of this competition is to find a number of artists from around the world and help them to compete in an international setting. The OSAKA International Music Competition is dedicated to promoting arts and culture under the banner of world peace and mutual understanding. 3 Age Categories: Section I Age-E1: Born between April 2, 2015 and April 1, 2017 (Grade 1-2) Age-E2: Born between April 2, 2013 and April 1, 2015 (Grade 3-4) Age-E3: Born between April 2, 2011 and April 1, 2013 (Grade 5-6) Age-J: Born between April 2, 2008 and April 1, 2011 (Junior High School) Age-H: Born between April 2, 2005 and April 1, 2008 (High School) Age-U: Born on or before April 1, 2005 and either a college or a university undergraduate or graduate student. Age-G: 1) Those who graduated from university or postgraduate course, and the general public. 2) Those who wish to apply regardless of age categories. Junior: Born between April 2, 2008 and April 1, 2017 Senior: Born before April 1, 2008 Section II No age requirement. Playing by memory is not required. Section III: Youth & Amateurs Amateurs Virtuoso: For advanced learner, born before April 1, 2008, no upper limit on age Superior: Born between April 2, 2005 and April 1, 2008 Senior: Those who have begun to learn music since becoming an adult. (18 years old and over.) Youth Junior Course (Free Program Course only): Those who were born between April 2, 2008 and April 1, 2011 Infant A Course: Those who were born between April 2, 2011 and April 1, 2014 Infant B Course: Those who were born between April 2, 2014 and April 1, 2017 Infant C Course: Those who were born on or after April 2, 2017


4 Repertoire Requirements for the Regional Round: Section I Piano Category Age-E1 1. One piece by J. S. Bach or one etude 2. One piece chosen by the contestant (including movements from a sonata or suite). The length of two pieces: 4 minutes. Age-E2 Same requirements as Age-E1 Age-E3 Same requirements as Age-E1 Age-J 1. One piece of J. S. Bach or one etude 2. One piece chosen by the contestant (including movements from a sonata or suite). The length of two pieces: 5 minutes. Age-H 1. One Fugue from J. S. Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier (I, II) or one Etude by Chopin (Op. 10, Op. 25) 2. One piece chosen by the contestant (including movements from a sonata or suite). The length of two pieces: 7 minutes. Age-U 1. One Fugue from J. S. Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier (I, II) or one Etude by Chopin, Debussy, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin or Prokofiev 2. One piece piece chosen by the contestant (including movements from a sonata or suite). The length of two pieces: 10 minutes. Age-G Same requirements as Age-U


5 Notes: - The contestant must perform in the order of Item No.1 and No. 2. - For the second piece (Item No. 2), the same opus number piece as the first piece (Item No. 1) is NOT permissible. - If the contestant plays specific movement(s) or excerpt(s) from a suite or variations, these must be specified on the application from. String Category (violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar) (Harp has different requirements.) Age-E1 One piece or pieces chosen by the contestant (including movements from a sonata or suite). The length of two pieces: 10 minutes. Double bass and guitar: One piece or pieces chosen by the contestant including movements from a sonata or suite). The length of performance: 8 minutes. Age-G Same requirements as Age-U.


6 Vocal Music Category Age-J One song chosen by the contestant. The length of performance: 5 minutes. Age-H Same requirements as Age-J. Age-U Choose 1 or 2: 1. Opera Course: One aria chosen by the contestant. The length of performance: 5 minutes. 2. Art Song Course: One art song composed in or after 1765. The length of performance: 5 minutes. Age-G Same requirements as Age-U. Notes: - The Age-U/G contestants are required to choose Opera or Art Song Course. Musical Junior One musical song chosen by the contestant. The length of performance: 5 minutes. Senior One musical song chosen by the contestant. The length of performance: 5 minutes. Wind Category Age-J One piece chosen by the contestant. 19 Jury Members Korak Lertpibulchai Korak Lertpibulchai graduated from Mahidol University (BM, 2011), Illinois State University (MM, 2013), and the University of Iowa (DMA, 2017). Her primary teachers have included Dr. Ksenia Nosikova, Dr. Eri Nakagawa, Dr. Joshua Russell, Dr. Mina Ivanova, Dr. Ramasoon Sitalayan, and Supaphon Vibulpanuvej. An advocate for new music, Korak has been appointed as a pianist for the University of Iowa Center for New Music (2014-2017) and has given world premieres and performed numerous works by composers such as David Lang, Kaija Saariaho, Dimitri Papageorgiou, Augusta Read Thomas, Abrahamsen Hans, Irina Dubkova, Bruno Maderna, Robert Moran, Michael Fiday, Dan Welcher, Louis Karchin, and Adam Greene, among others. Korak has given solo and chamber performances throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia, including major music conservatories in China such as Sichuan Conservatory of Music, Shanghai Conservatory, Central Conservatory, Xi'an Conservatory, Tianjin Conservatory, etc. She has also recorded music by David Gompper and Alan Schnitz, as well as a recording project featuring works by Thai composers, showcasing the sound palette and aesthetic of Thai contemporary music for solo piano. Currently, Korak serves as the Chair of the Piano Department at the College of Music, Mahidol University.


20 Dr. Tharach Wuthiwan Tharach started his music studies at the Yamaha Music Academy and won prizes from Yamaha Music Festival. His university education including bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Piano Performance from Mahidol University with teaching assistantship, and studied with Dr.Eri Nakagawa, Dr.Ramasoon Sitalayan, and Azusa Hokugo. He also won a scholarship from Yamaha Music Foundation, Japan, and became an Honor Student after two years in the program. Tharach has become a piano lecturer at Mahidol University since 2011. He received a scholarship to continue his doctoral studies in Piano Performance with Professor Jack Winerock at the University of Kansas, and was in pedagogy classes taught by Professor Scott McBride Smith. Besides studies, he was a coordinator of the Pianos without Borders, an innovative long-distance learning program sponsored by Yamaha. His outstanding student records resulted in an invitation to join Pi Kappa Lambda, an American honor society. Currently, at Mahidol University, Tharach teaches private piano lessons, and serves as a program committee for both College of Music and International College. Also, he received a scholarship to participate in the online teaching workshop by Macquarie University, Australia.


21 Dr. Sornsuang Tangsinmonkong Sornsuang Tangsinmonkong joined the piano faculty of College of Music Mahidol University since May 2011. Currently, she is a piano department secretary, a coordinator of minor piano courses and an admission committee. Her responsibility includes teaching keyboard classes, small ensemble and private piano lessons. Tangsinmonkong received scholarship from Mahidol University to study Doctoral in piano performance under Prof. Dr. James Miltenberger and graduated in 2017. While she was studying at the West Virginia University, she was also awarded scholarships from the Valarie Canady Charitable Trust Foundation in three consecutive years: 2013, 2014 and 2015. She was a vice president of West Virginia University Music Teacher National Association Student Chapter in 2015. The most remarkable performance was the premiere of “Half of Me” for the piano left hand composed by Miguel del Aguila in April 2017 at Bloch Learning and Performance Hall, West Virginia University; this piece was commission by Van Cliburn Foundation for the 2000 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. During her studies, she also joined numerous masterclasses from well-known artist as follows: Miguel del Aguila (2017), Prof. Christopher Taylor (2014), Prof. Dr. Peter Amstutz (2014), Prof. Gustavo Romero (2012), Dr. Sang Woo Kang (2009), Dr. Robert Palmer (2008), Antony Peebles (2001), and Prof. Barbara HesseBukowska (2000). Tangsinmonkong focuses on building professional artistic pianists. From her teaching career, she received Best Teacher Award from the 9th Hong Kong International Youth Performance Arts Festival (HKYPAF) 2022, Teaching award from Churairat ABRSM Piano Competition 2018, the certificate of recognition of the professionalism and skill from Trinity Award Thailand from teaching her student who received the second highest marks in ATCL (Recital) in 2013.


22 Mr. Hiroshi Matsushima Flutist Hiroshi Matsushima has an active and multifaceted career as a performer and educator. He frequently performs recitals and in chamber music collaborations throughout and abroad. Besides his duty of teaching applied flute lessons, chamber music, literature and pedagogy, he currently serves as chair of the woodwind department and associate principal flute of the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra. Hiroshi has appeared and performed at numerous occasions in Thailand abroad. His performances were reviewed by the medias as “expressively poetic,” “gripping nimble flute work,” “amazing ability to speak with two voices, one alto, another soprano on flute,” and “each of his new melodic idea brought murmurs of delight.” Matsushima has been on faculty of College of Music Mahidol University for 18 years. As a challenging, encouraging and enthusiastic musician and educator, his main goal is to maximize students’ talent and foster a spirit of independence as a musician.


23 Mr. Grzegorz Grzeszczyk Grzegorz Grzeszczyk is one of the few representatives of younger generation of bass clarinet players in Europe. He devoted his musical life to specialize in bass clarinet. To achieve this he decided to study in Rotterdam under a famous bass clarinet professor and a great performer – prof. Henri Bok. He also graduated the clarinet class of prof. Bogdan Ocieszak at the Stanislaw Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdansk, Poland. Grzegorz Grzeszczyk began to play bass clarinet in secondary music school and soon he started being recognized on the Polish clarinet scene as one of the first Polish bass clarinet solo players. During his academic years he won many prizes in competitions and clarinet festivals Mr. Grzeszczyk worked with many symphonic orchestras playing the bass clarinet: Symphony Orchestra of India (Mumbai), Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra (Gdansk), Baltic Opera (Gdansk), Wojciech Rajski Chamber Orchestra, Polish Philharmonic Orchestra in Kalisz just to name a few. He also worked with a great Polish jazz trumpet player Piotr Wojtasik in his project “Circle” (concerts in Berlin, Paris, Warsaw) and also with a Polish jazz pianist and composer Nikola Kolodziejczyk in his “Chord Nation” project, and “Progressive Baroque” project. In 2015 The Chord Nation CD was awarded a prestigious Fryderyk music award for recording debut of the year in the jazz category. Since November 2012 Grzegorz Grzeszczyk is the bass clarinet instructor at the College of Music at Mahidol University in Thailand and the bass clarinetist of the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra.


24 Mr. Alongkorn Laosaichuea Alongkorn Laosaichuea is lecturer of trumpet and chair of the brass and percussion department at the College of Music, Mahidol University, where he teaches applied trumpet, trumpet and brass literature, and brass chamber music. A former member of the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra from 2007-2017 and returning in 2021. Laosaichuea began formal studies at the Pre-College Program, followed by Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Music Performance from the College of Music, Mahidol University. Laosaichuea’s major trumpet teacher was Joseph Bowman. Hedid additional studies with Sompop Puengpreeda, James Sherry, and David Hart. He hosts the Mahidol Trumpet Summer Camp and Mahidol Brass and Percussion Camp. Alongkorn is the Adams International Artist. Philharmonic Orchestra from 2005-2007. Later she joined the Miami Symphony Orchestra from 2012-2014. After returning to Thailand in 2014, Phuttaraksa was appointed harpist for the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra and joined as a full time faculty at the College of Music, Mahidol University where she now teaches harp and serves as assistant dean of academic affairs.

Prof. Dr. Nachaya Natchanawakul Nachaya Natchanawakul joined as the fulltime faculty of College of Music, Mahidol University since 2016, where she serves as the chair of the Ph.D. program and Department Chai of Thai and Oriental Music Division. She teaches courses in Thai Music Theory, Thai Music history, Introduction to Music Research and also teach Thai music performance. She received scholarship; 2005 Indonesian Arts And Culture Scholarship from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Indonesia (at Bandung for 3 months in Sundanese Music and Dance program), 2009 Thai Music Workshop and Music Symposium cooperative project of Mahidol University, Thailand and the Institute für Musikwissenschaft der Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar and University of Jena at Weimar, Germany,2019 Global Mobility Erasmus Plus Teacher Exchange 2017-2019 by University of Agder, Kristiansand, Norway and 2020 Global-VU TIPs Initiative Workshops “At the Borders of Art and Power: Western Classical Music in the Global Marketplace.”, Blair School of Music. 26 Captain Somnuek Saeng-arun Captain Somnuek Saeng-arun is a Thai musician, loves playing both Thai and Contemporary International music, and having good skills in blowing instruments for both Thai and international style. He graduated from Royal Thai Army Band School, and graduated with a bachelor's and master's degree in music education, Faculty of Education from Chulalongkorn University. Capt. Somnuek Saeng-arun studied Thai and international music with many professional instructors, namely LT.COL. Sanoh Luangsoontorn (National Artist), Jamnian Srithaiphan (National Artist), LT.COL. WICHIT HO-THAI (National Artist), Asst. Prof. Col. Chuchart Pitaksakorn (National Artist), Ajarn Manrat Srikanon (National Artist), Col. Prasit Jinda-in, SM1 Tawee Thaipayak, SM1 Somchai Duriyapranit, Asst. Prof. Sangobsuek Thamviharn, Ajarn Paithoon Aunhaka, Ajarn Anant Narkkong, Assoc. Prof. Narut Suttajit, Ajarn Damrih Banawitayakit, Prof. Dr. Narongrit Dhamabutra, Prof. Dr. Weerachat Premananda, and many staff of music teachers. In addition to being famous as a Thai musician, Capt. Somnuek Saeng-arun has been known as a composer, music arranger, conductor, founder of Jongkraben band in "Kun Pra Chuay" program; be as an advisor for designing music in the program from 2004 to 2008, and founder of Sabai band. Presently, he works as a staff of music in the support foundation of prem tinsulanonda at Royal Thai Army Band Department, working as a Music director at Satukan Music School, the leader of Jongkraben Thai contemporary music band and also the guest lecturer in Divosion of Thai and Oriental Music, College of Music, MahidolUniversity.


27 Mr. Saharat Chanchaleum He started studying Sor Oo with Master Prapat Uankwan when he was 12 years old until 13 years old. He could perform “Pleng Khaek Morn Sam Chan” as a Sor Oo soloist. When he was in a secondary school, he studied Sor Duang with Master Wan Onchan, Master Prayoon Fakpoo, Master Samnieng Fakpoo and studied Sor Oo with Master Chaluay Jiyachan. When he was 14 years old, he started playing Jakae instructed by Master Prayoon and Samnieng. When he was 15 years old, he could perform “Pleng Krao Nai” as a Jakae soloist. In the meantime he started studying Sor Sam Sai and Khim. He could perform advanced “Pleng Diew” songs as a soloist. When he was 16 years old, he studied Jakae solo for “Pleng Krao Nai”, Thang Piset with Master Siri Nakdontri. When he was in the Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University, he studied Jakae with Master Thongdee Sucharitkul and studied all “Pleng Diew” songs from the Master. He also studied piano with Master Choochat Pitaksakorn. He studied violin and joined with Faculty of Education Symphony. He achieved a master degree from Music Performance, College of Music, Mahidol University.
