MORAL THEME

Respect, also called esteem, is a positive
feeling or action shown towards someone or
something considered important, or held in
high esteem or regard. It conveys a sense of
admiration for good or valuable qualities. And
it is also the process of honouring someone
by exhibiting care, concern, or consideration
for their needs or feelings. Respect can also
ignite kindness to others because it shows the

love and support for others. You can show
respect to others by doing the exact same

things you did to the others.

SOCIAL CONFLICTS

This week's topic: Teen Drug Abuse

More and more teens are getting addicted to drugs every
day. Many addictions develop from drug abuse that starts
during adolescence. It's important to know the difference

between drug abuse and addiction. Many teens
experiment with drugs but aren’t addicted. Teen drug

abuse can have long-term cognitive and behavioral
effects since the teenage brain is still developing. The
teen years are often a time to explore and learn more
about themselves as they approach adulthood. Often, this
involves experimenting and testing their boundaries. The
desire to do something new or risky is a normal part of

teen development. Teens who perceive little risk in
using drugs are more likely to use drugs. Teens may also

use drugs or alcohol to:
•Feel good

•Forget their troubles and relax
•Satisfy their curiosity
•Ease their pain
•Feel grown up

•Show their independence
•Belong to a specific group
Adolescents should avoid drugs because their body is
still developing, and intake of drugs may affect the
development of body and functioning of some other

organs.

BOOK REVIEW

MISS PEREGRINE’S HOME FOR PECULIAR
CHILDREN

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is a very
interesting book. It involves action, mystery, kids with
peculiarities (basically superpowers!), and secrets
being unveiled. It starts off with a boy named Jacob
Portman, who grows up listening to odd tales his
grandfather used to tell him, yet as he grew up, he
began to stop believing. Everything, however,
changed when he found his grandfather dead in the
forest. The story continues with him finding out how
the stories he used to be
told were true, and he teams
up with the kids whom he
used to hear about, fighting
against an evil he couldn’t
possibly imagine. The novel
is a gem, and I highly
encourage everyone to go
and read it. It’ll be a
rollercoaster of twists; left,
right and center, and you too
will follow Jacob as he
uncovers more and more
about his Grandfather’s past.

MOVIE REVIEW

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
4.5/5

Probably one of the best Jurassic World
movies ever, although I saw the big twist
coming and that's why I gave it a 4.5 score.
Overall a very good movie and one that
I highly recommend you watch with your

friends.

GAME REVIEW

Toby and Gilbert
What is this game about?
Toby tries to show his friend Gilbert a video he
enjoys, but his pc suddenly breaks before he
can see it, and then they take an adventure to
PC repair land with lots of minigames and
challenges ahead of them. Well if you were
wondering toby is the cat/dog thing and Gilbert
is the crab.

Is this game any good?
This game is extremely charming and so easy to
like! Toby and Gilbert’s adventures take them
across several areas, completing all different
types of little challenges and minigames, the
game also perfectly captures the essence of
what the jam is about.

The Galapagos Islands

• You’ll never believe what Y8 did during their half-term break!

During Year 8’s half-term break, Humanities teacher
Miss Naazneen assigned the classes the challenge to make a website
about The Galapagos Islands! We had to dive into the world of
knowledge to understand, explore, analyse, enquire, research facts
about the Galapagos island to create a website using to create this
website. We had investigated - How has the island survived in spite
of the coastal process working on it?We were told to make 5
different sections within the website, including things such as the
introduction, the Islands’ geographical location, it’s formation, rock
type, geographical processes, the biodiversity, ecosytem there, and
so much more! We stood up to the challenge and managed to create
our very own websites about the Galapagos Islands!

Going down the Memory Lane

By Ms. Nazneen Khan

• Those were the days when technology was not within a common man’s reach. We as
children did not possess any gadget to work and play with but still lived a carefree life. We
as kids had a wonderful childhood full of adventure and physical activities, unlike you
coach potatoes. After Homework completion we spent outdoors playing actual games like
football, cricket, tennis, badminton, etc.

• There was no internet to assist in learning new things, we did learn the hard way. Hard
copy books were our companions with whom we hours reading books as they were the
ultimate source of knowledge for us. We spent quality time midst nature observing,
exploring, analyzing things outside the four walls of our houses and getting hands on
experiences. We did not have Google to answer our queries or to copy paste answers to
the questions our teachers asked us. Creating a project meant digging ourselves into piles
of books in the school or the public library, or at a charity shop buying procuring
magazines and books to get the necessary information we wanted. When you got an ‘A’
Grade for the hard toil that was the joyous moment of all.

• Back in time friendship meant being in company and sharing space with actual friends in
flesh and bone and not the fake virtual friends. The friendship we shared was real and
you always had at least a shoulder to rest your head during difficult times. Blocking a
friend meant just tearing pictures of them you clicked together.

• We would actually ‘write’ letters to our friends and relatives which involved going to the
post office buying the stamps to affix on the envelope, put the letter in an envelope, seal
it, paste the stamp on it and drop it in the post box and wait for the postman to deliver
their reply back to us. Not to forget the wired telephone which sat in the corner of the
living room. How I wished I could carry that bulky, wired device wherever I go. We had to
glue ourselves in the corner just to communicate with others. The mobile phones haved
distanced the family member as each one is engaged on her/his own device whereas the
wired telephone brought used to bring all family together to be able to receive the call.

• There was rarely no concept of ‘use and throw’, if not everything but most of the things
we used back then were reusable. We would use and reuse stuff until it would turn
around and say, “have mercy on me”. How we used a single fountain pen for years
together by refilling ink once it ran out of it. I still possess one of my fountain pen. Every
time I tried to fill ink in it, I would get scolded by mum for spilling ink on myself and the
floor. We carried our own water bottles, lunch boxes, cloth bags with us. Another
interesting memory are the handkerchiefs we carried, especially those with your initials
embroidered in the corner. These are some of the memories still fresh in my mind. Hope
you enjoyed reading.
