Use Your Canon Printer Regularly
to Avoid Print Head Clogging

The printheads in your printer machine are the source for supplying ink to the paper.
When these things get clogged with the bits of paper or with dried ink then you might
see uneven and streaked ink supply in the printed materials and thinks and for cleaning
clogged printheads, you will need to follow a few tips which are mentioned in this guide.
Well, it takes time and effort so we are here with the exact tips to do so.

Use Printer Regularly

To keep your printheads clear as well as proper working, you will need to use your
cannon printer regularly. Doing this will keep the ink flow proper and also prevent it
from heads drying. Therefore, you will need to use your printer every few days or once a
week so that the printheads remain moist with fresh ink. If you leave it without using it
for a long time then, the ink will be left on the heads and it gets dried and becomes the
reason for clogging.

Clean on a Regular Basis

Even after using your printer on a regular basis or every day, there might be a chance of
a few ink droplets which have dried in the tubing leading from the cartridges or on the
printheads. Use the cleaning cycle of your printer at least once a month and clear any
dried ink that is leftover in the heads. Small paper bits can get sometimes grabbed
inside the printheads and machine also, so it is advisable to blow some canned air so
that the dust or paper blows out when you clean your printhead constantly.

Storage Capacity

If you have chosen to not use your printer for a long time period then, it is
recommended to remove the ink cartridges and after that wrap them gently and
strongly in the plastic wrap to keep them fresh and new for future use. It is effective in
preventing the dripping of ink into the printheads and tubes, drying as well as causing
clogging. Based on your printer, you will be able to eliminate the printheads to clean or
for storage. You will need to check the manual of your printer or the website of the
manufacturer for detail or extended machine storage.

Turn Off the Printer

When you have turned on your printer then, it moves the printheads and then, takes to
the ink to get it ready for usages. If you don’t want to turn off the printer machine itself
then, it can return the presence to its “home” position; the printheads and ink can clog
and dry out. It is advisable to turn the printer off via a power strip or surge protector.
Use the power button so that you can turn it off for protecting the printheads and ink
from drying or damage as well.

How to Clean Print Head Manually?

Step 1: You can also clean the print head manually and for that, you will need to
remove the ink tanks and the printer heads. After that, remove the ink tanks and seal
them in a zip lock or other plastic bag. It is advisable to set them apart and it is
recommended to propped upright. Now, you will need to remove the printer head.

Step 2: Soak the printer head and there are various recommendations to clean the
printer head

Choose a shallow and small pan and then, lay down a layer or two of paper towels in the
container bottom so that the printer head circuitry protected from damaged contacts.
Heat that up enough bottled/purified water for the paper covering towels. You also can
use a 50/50 combination of distilled water and ammonia. Heat the microwave
combination for about a minute or more. Slowly dispense the combination or mixture
over the paper towels and make sure that you have at least 1/2” of liquid in the pan
bottom.

You can set the printer head into the container on the top of the towel and you should
see the ink ‘bleeding’ out and move the print head to different spots and shake it firmly.
It will easily dissolve the ink clogs. If the printer head is clogged roughly then, let it soak
for at least 3 to 4 hours or leave it overnight. You can move it firmly to another spot
every hour or more.

Step 3: Use water for flushing Printer Head

You will need to hold the unit under a gently running tap (warm water tap) and place
your finger over the tap and generate backpressure so that it allowed you to squeeze
water into all the crevices of the printer head. Conduct this step unless the water goes
clearly

Step 4: Replace the Printerhead by drying it out

It is recommended to remove the printhead and use distilled water to wash it carefully.
Now, shake it dry and then, again set it on folded paper towels to air dry. Now, insert
the printer head and ink tanks again. The printer will then automatically conduct a
“Printer Head Configuration”. If it fails to do so then, conduct the “Printer Head
Alignment” manually via the utility of the printer. In the end, clean the printer head cycle
that is followed by printing a nozzle pattern so that you can see your progress. Repeat
the same if required.
