INTRODUCTION

The CRC®-Ultra Communications Program can communicate with the CRC®-Ultra via RS-
232 or USB ports.

INSTALLATION

Note: Before proceeding, it is recommended that you close any applications you may be
running. Setup cannot install system files or update shared files if they are in use.

From Capintec Web Site
Click on the Download link.
If your browser gives you a choice of running or saving the file, select Save and save to your
Desktop.
Click on the downloaded icon.
Follow directions as the program is installed.

From CD
Insert the CRC®-Ultra Communications CD into your CD drive.
The CD is self-starting. If it does not start, perform the following steps:

Select Run… from the Start Menu.
Click the Browse… button.
From the Look in: drop-down list, select Communications (CD Drive).
Click on the file setup.exe to select it.
Click the Open button.
Click the OK button.
The CRC-Ultra Communications Setup window appears as shown in figure 1.

Click the OK button. Click the large setup icon (button) to begin the installation. Click the Exit
Setup button to cancel the installation.

The CRC-Ultra Communications – Choose Program Group Window appears.
Click the Continue button.

The Program begins to run through its setup procedure. Once Setup is completed
successfully, click the OK button.

After the installation is complete, click the Start Menu, Programs, right-click on the CRC-Ultra
Communications icon and select Create Shortcut.
Drag one of the shortcuts to the Desktop.
Restart the computer.

CONNECTING THE CALIBRATOR

RS-232
Connect one end of the cable to the “RS-232” port on the rear panel of the Calibrator.
Connect the other end of the cable to the Serial (Comm) port of the computer.
USB
Connect one end of the cable to the “PC” USB port on the side of the Calibrator. Connect the
other end of the cable to a USB port on the computer.

LICENSING

A valid license is needed to communicate with the CRC®-Ultra. The license is tied to your
PC’s hard drive. The activation code and form for obtaining a license are accessed via the
Setup Screen.

LOG ON

When the program is launched, the Sign In Screen will appear:

Sign In
Users must set up by the Admin prior to logging on to the CRC®-Ultra Communications
program. User Names and Passwords are case sensitive.
Input the User Name and then the Password. Asterisks (*) will appear when the Password is
entered.
The OK button will be enabled when entries have been made in both User Name and
Password.
Clicking on OK will exit the Sign In screen and the Main screen will appear.

Admin Log On
Admin is the user who has control of user management. The Admin can view and print
Logon / Logoff Reports and can add, delete or invalidate users,
For Admin to log on:

• Type Admin and press the Tab key.
• Input the Password (AlphaDrive is default) and press the Tab key.
Note: User Names and Passwords are case sensitive.
Note: It is recommended that the Admin password be changed at first log in.

When Admin logs on and Tab is pressed after password entry, the following buttons will
appear:

• Add User – this allows the Admin to add users,
• Change Password – this allows the Admin to change the Admin password and,
• Report – allows viewing and printing of the User Log On Report.

User Log On
Once the Admin sets up a user, the user may log on to the CRC®-Ultra Communications
program.

For a user to log on:
• Input the User Name and press the Tab key.
• Input the Password and press the Tab key.

Note: User Names and Passwords are case sensitive.

The Change Password button will appear. Clicking this button allows a user to change
his/her own password.

ADD USER

From Figure 5 Admin Log On Screen, click the Add User button. Figure 7 Add User Screen
will appear.

Input the new User Name and then the Password. Input the Password again in the Verify
Password text box.

When the OK button is clicked, the new user and password will be accepted and Figure 5
Admin Log On Screen will re-appear.

CHANGE PASSWORD

From Figure 5 Admin Log On Screen, the Admin may change his/her own password by
clicking the Change Password button.

Note: It is recommended that the Admin password be changed at first log in.

From Figure 6 User Log On Screen, a user may change his/her own password by clicking
the Change Password button.

When the Change Password button is clicked, Figure 8 Change Password Screen will
appear.

The current User Name is displayed and cannot be changed.
Input the New Password and then re-input it again for verification.
Click the OK button to accept the new password.

LOG ON REPORT

A log is kept of when each user logs on and logs off.

When Admin is logged on (Figure 5 Admin Log On Screen), the Log On Report may be
viewed by clicking the Report button. Figure 9 Log On Report Screen will appear.

The User, Log On Date/Time and Log Off Date/Time are displayed in reverse chronological
order.
When All Users are displayed, the Delete User and Invalidate User buttons are disabled.

Displaying Selected User
The Drop Down List box contains the names of all the users. When a user is selected, the
log on data for that user is displayed and the Delete User and Invalidate User buttons are
enabled.

Note: The Delete User and Invalidate User buttons are not enabled if Admin is the
selected user, since Admin may not be deleted or invalidated.

Delete User

To delete a user and all log on data for the user, select the User Name from the drop-down
list box and click the Delete User button.

Invalidate User
Invalidating a user will remove the user from the list of users who may log onto the program
but it will not delete the user’s log on data.

To invalidate a user, select the User Name from the drop-down list box and click the
Invalidate User button.

Displaying Data By Date
Log On Data may be displayed before or after a given month and year.

To display the Log On Data by date:
• Input the month in numeric format (1 to 12).
• Input the year in 4 digit year format.
• Click the Before Month/Year or After Month/Year radio button.

The selected data will be displayed.

Printing Report
The displayed Log On Data may be printed.

To print a report of the displayed Log On Data, click the Print button.

Exiting
To exit the Log On Reports and return to Sign On Screen, click the Done button.

The Main Screen is shown in below. All functions are accessed from the Main Screen.

Data Acquisition
(Reference DATA ACQUISITION page 19 for operational instructions.)

This function reads and saves activity measured by the Chamber or Beta Detector.

The Chamber whose activity is to be read may be selected.

The Chamber to be displayed on the calibrator readout display may be selected.

The Nuclide and container type of the main chamber (the chamber that is displayed on the
calibrator readout) may be selected.

Patient Report
(Reference PATIENT REPORT page 23 for operational instructions.)

This function allows the user to view, print and manage the history of saved patient data.

Wipe Locations
(Reference WIPE TEST LOCATIONS page 26 for operational instructions.)

This function allows the user to input descriptions of each Wipe Location and is used when
Wipe Tests are saved.

Wipe Test History
(Reference WIPE TEST HISTORY page 30 for operational instructions.)

This function allows the user to view, print and manage the saved Wipe Test history.

Wipe Test
(Reference WIPE TEST page 28 for operational instructions.)

This function reads and saves Wipe Test data.

QC
(Reference QC TESTS page 33 for operational instructions.)

This function allows the user to perform Daily Tests for Chamber, Well and Beta and saves
the data.

QC History
(Reference QC HISTORY page 36 for operational instructions.)

This function allows the user to view, print and manage saved QC data history.

Archive
(Reference ARCHIVE page 38 for operational instructions.)

This function allows the user to save the current database and access previously saved
databases for viewing and printing.

Setup

(Reference SETUP page 17 for operational instructions.)

This function is used to:
• obtain the data needed to attain a license,
• generate the License Request Form,
• input the License information,
• input the Report Header information and,
• to select communications port.

Obtaining the License
The program’s license is tied to your computer’s hard drive. An example activation code is
shown in Figure 12 License Frame below:

Click the License Request Form button to print a form containing the information necessary
to obtain a license. Contact the Capintec Sales department at 1-800-631-3826 to order your
license. You will be given a License code that will work only with your computer.

Note: A printer attached to your computer is required to obtain the License Request Form.

Inputing the License
Enter the License Code making sure that you enter the License with upper case letters. If the
license is correctly entered, you will be able to obtain data from the CRC®-Ultra.

Report Header Frame
Up to 40 characters per line may be entered in these 5 fields. The report header will be
printed on all the reports.

Communications Port Frame
The CRC®-Ultra can communicate with a PC via RS-232 or USB.

Comm 1 is set as the default. If you want to use the USB port or another RS-232 port for
communications with the CRC®-Ultra, select that port. The port will be set up when the Done
button is pressed.
Printer On PC Frame
Reports may be printed from this program if a printer is connected to your PC. On first
startup, it is assumed that there is no printer.

Click the Yes radio button if a printer is connected to the PC. This will enable the Print
buttons throughout the program.

Exiting Setup
To exit Setup and save the entries, click the Done button.
To exit Setup without saving entries, click the Cancel button.

DATA ACQUISITION

From Figure 10 Main Screen, click the Data Acquisition button. Figure 15 Data Acquisition
Screen will appear.
The activity and isotope are automatically acquired every second. Data Acquisition begins
when the Data Acquisition screen is displayed. The current calibrator reading is displayed.

Change Nuclide / Type
The nuclide may be changed by highlighting the name of the desired nuclide from the list
shown in Figure 16 Nuclide List.

The container type may be changed by selecting a container type radio button from Figure
17 Container Type Selection.

When the nuclide and container type have been selected, click the Change Nuclide / Type
button.

• If there is no correction factor for the selected container type, the container type will
be changed to Reference.

• If there is no calibration number for the selected nuclide, no change will be made.

Select Chamber Frame
The program obtains the configuration from the calibrator and only activates those chambers
which are attached to the system. The chamber type is indicated.

The Beta option will only be activated if there is a Beta Detector attached to the system.

In the example, there are 2 chambers in the system and a Beta Detector. Chamber #1 is a
PET chamber and chamber #2 is an R chamber.

To read data from another chamber, click the corresponding radio button. The chamber
being read is displayed above the activity as shown in Figure 15 Data Acquisition Screen.

To read data from the Beta Detector, you must be on the Beta measurement screen. Click
the Beta radio button to read the data.

Saving Data
To save the measurement, along with patient data to the database, click the SAVE button.

The Patient Data form will appear with the nuclide name, activity and date/time of
measurement displayed as shown in Figure 19 Patient Data Screen.

Only the Last Name and First Name are required. When these fields are filled in, the SAVE
button will be active.
Click the SAVE button when all desired fields have been entered. Figure 15 Data Acquisition
Screen will re-appear.
Click the CANCEL button to exit the Patient Data form without saving the measurement.

Exiting Data Acquisition
Click the DONE button or press the Esc key to exit the Data Acquisition screen and return to
Figure 10 Main Screen.

PATIENT REPORT

The Patient Report can be accessed from Figure 10 Main Screen by clicking the Patient
Report button or from Figure 15 Data Acquisition Screen by clicking the PATIENT REPORT
button.

Selection

The entire History or only Today’s Measurements (the default) can be displayed.
To change the selection, click on the desired radio button as shown in Figure 21 Display
Selection.

Sorting
The display can be sorted by Date or Last Name. To change the selection, click on the
desired radio button as shown in Figure 22 Sorting.

• Date – sorts the data in reverse chronological order.
• Last Name – sorts the data by patient last name.

Printing
The displayed Patient Report data may be printed. To print a report of the displayed data,
click the Print button.

Save to File
The displayed Patient Report data may be saved to a file. To save the report to a file, click
the Save to File button.

Delete HistoryError! Bookmark not defined.
This button is only active when the History radio button is selected (Figure 21 Display
Selection).
To delete the entire patient history, click Delete History button.
Note: Before deleting the entire history, the database should be archived.

Selecting Part of the Display
To select one measurement, place the mouse over the desired part of the display and left
click. The entire display for that measurement will be highlighted.
To select more than one measurement:

• Place the mouse over the desired part of the display and left click.

• Press and hold the Shift key.
• Press and hold the left mouse button and drag it until all the desired items are

highlighted
• Release the Shift key and the left mouse button.

After a selection is made, the Print Selection and Delete Selection buttons will be enabled.

Print Selection
To print the selected item(s), click the Print Selection button.

Delete Selection
To delete the selected item(s), click the Delete Selection button.

Exiting Patient Report
Click the Done button or press the Esc key to exit the Patient Report Screen.

WIPE TEST LOCATIONS

From Figure 10 Main Screen, click the Wipe Locations button. Figure 23 Wipe Locations
Screen will appear.

This module is used to input a description for each wipe location that will be used in your
facility.

Selecting a Location
To select a Wipe ID (refer to Figure 24 Wipe ID Frame and Figure 25 Wipe ID Dropdown
List):

• select the Wipe, Unrestricted or Sealed Source radio button, and
• choose a location number from the dropdown list.

When the type or location is changed, the ID and location will be displayed.

Note: If a location was previously saved, the ID, location and description will be displayed.

Adding New Location Description
To add a new location description:

• Select the Wipe, Unrestricted or Sealed Source radio button.
• Choose a location number from the dropdown list.
• Type a description for the Wipe ID and Location in the Wipe Location / Description

text box.
• Click the SAVE button.

Note: Up to 20 characters may be input per description.

Editing Existing Location Description
When the existing description is displayed:

• Click in the Wipe Location / Description text box
• Edit the existing description
• Click the SAVE button.

Note: Up to 20 characters may be input per description.

Exiting Wipe Locations
Click the DONE button or press the Esc key to exit the Wipe Locations Screen.

WIPE TEST

From Figure 10 Main Screen, click the Wipe Test button. Figure 26 Wipe Test Screen will
appear.

This module is used to read, save and print Wipe Test Data.

When the screen is first accessed, the Wipe Description text box and the main display will be
blank. The Save Wipe button will be disabled.

Read Wipe
Note: From the Calibrator Readout, a Wipe Test must first be performed, completed and

displayed before clicking the Read Wipe button; otherwise an error message will be
displayed.
After a Wipe Test is performed, click the Read Wipe button to read the data from the
Calibrator Readout and display the data on the main display.

Wipe Description
After the Wipe Test is read, the program will look for the wipe location description
corresponding to the Wipe ID in the database.
If a description is found, it will be displayed in the Wipe Description text box.
If a description is not found, the Wipe ID will be displayed in the Wipe Description text box.
The displayed description may be edited.
Note: Up to 20 characters may be input per description.
The Wipe Description will be printed on the report and saved to the database.

Printing the Wipe Test Results
To print the Wipe Test Results as displayed, click the Print Wipe button.

Saving Data
The Wipe Test Data may be saved to the database.
Click the Save Wipe button to save the data.

Exiting Wipe Test
Click the DONE button or press the Esc key to exit the Wipe Test Screen.

The Wipe Test History can be accessed from Figure 10 Main Screen by clicking the Wipe
Test History button or from Figure 26 Wipe Test Screen by clicking the Wipe History
button.

Selection

This module is used to control the Chamber Daily Tests and to read the Well and Beta Tests.

Daily Chamber Test
Selecting the Chamber

The Daily Chamber Test is performed on the selected chamber only.
The chamber must be selected before performing the test.

• Click on the correct chamber radio button in Figure 31 Selection of Chamber
for Daily Test.

• Click the Select Chamber button. The calibrator display will change to the
selected chamber before the test begins.

• After the chamber is selected, the Begin Test button will be enabled (refer to
Figure 32 Daily Chamber Test Frame).

Performing the Daily Test

Figure 32 Daily Chamber Test Frame is used to step through the Daily Test for the
selected chamber (the chamber displayed on the calibrator readout).
Note: The calibrator must be on the Chamber Measurement Screen before

beginning the test.

To start the test, click the Begin Test button.

When each section of the test is finished, the Accept button will be activated. Click
the Accept button to continue to the next part of the test.

When the test is complete, the Save Results and Print buttons will be enabled.

Click the Print button to print a report for this test.

Click the Save Results button to save the data to the database for future viewing and
printing in QC History (refer to QC HISTORY section on page 36).

Counter Test

Note: From the Calibrator Readout, a Well Counter or Beta Detector Test must first be
performed and completed before clicking the Read Test button; otherwise an error
message will be displayed.

After the test is complete, click the Read Test button. The Save Results button will be
enabled.
Click the Save Results button to save the data to the database for future viewing and

Click the Done button or press the Esc key to exit the QC Test Screen.

Chamber Selection
If the Calibrator is connected to the PC and data has been downloaded, the current
chambers will be activated and their types shown.

If the Calibrator is not connected, or no data has been downloaded, all the chambers will be
activated and their types will not be shown.

Select the chamber whose history is to be viewed as shown in Figure 36 QC Chamber
Selection Frame.

Printing
The displayed QC History data may be printed. To print a report of the displayed data, click
the Print button.

Save to File
The displayed QC History data may be saved to a file. To save the data to a file, click the
Save to File button.

Delete History
Note: Before deleting the history, the database should be archived.

This button is only active when Daily, Well or Beta is selected. It is not active when Accuracy
is selected.

To delete the selected history, click the Delete History button.
• When Daily is selected, the Daily Test and Accuracy Test data for the selected
chamber will be deleted.
• When Well is selected, the Well Test data will be deleted.
• When Beta is selected, the Beta Test data will be deleted.

Exiting QC History
Click the Done button or press the Esc key to exit the QC History Screen.

ARCHIVE

From Figure 10 Main Screen, click the Archive button. Figure 37 Archive Screen will
appear.

Archive is used to save the current database and to access previously saved databases. All
archived databases are in the sub-folder Archive.

Archive should always be performed before deleting all patient data, QC data or all wipes.

Creating an Archive
To create a new archive (save the current database) click the Create Archive button.

The previously archived databases will be shown.
The file name will default to the word “Archive” followed by the current date in format
MMDDYYYY. The filename may be changed, but the folder cannot be changed.
When the correct file name is displayed, click on the Save button.

displayed on the top of the screen.

Opening an Archive
To open a previously archived database, click on the Open Archive button.
The following dialog will appear.

The previously archived databases will be shown. Click on the database to be opened. The
selected database’s name will appear in the File name text box. Click Open to open the
database.

Figure 37 Archive Screen will re-appear with the name of the opened archive displayed on
the top of the screen and the Wipes, Patients and QC buttons will be enabled.

Viewing / Printing Archived Data
After an archived database is opened, you may view and print the archived data by clicking
on the Wipes, Patients or QC buttons.

The screens will be the same as the report screens listed below with the exceptions noted:
• Patients – Figure 20 Patient Report Screen
o Selection of Today’s Measurements/History and the Delete History/Delete
Selection buttons will not be available.
• Wipes – Figure 27 Wipe Test History Screen
o Selection of Today’s Wipes/Wipe History and the Delete History/Delete
Selection buttons will not be available.
• QC – Figure 34 QC History Screen
o The Delete History button will not be available. All of the chambers will be
activated and their types will not be shown.

Exiting Archive

NEW PRODUCT WARRANTY

Conditions and Limitations

CAPINTEC warrants its products to be free from defects in material and
workmanship for a period of 12 months after delivery to the original
purchaser. During the warranty period, our liability is limited to the repair
of the product at our service center at no charge for parts and labor,
provided the examination discloses that the affected parts were originally
defective and have not been subjected to misuse or abuse. This
warranty extends to every part of the product except fuses and batteries.
We shall not be liable for any expenses incurred for transportation or
installation of our product.

This warranty is expressly in lieu of any other express or implied
warranty, and we make no warrant that the products sold herein are
merchantable or are suitable for any particular purpose. The benefits of
this warranty shall extend only to the purchaser and to none other. We
shall have no liability of any nature arising out of the use of or application
of the product in conformity with this warranty. If the product shall fail to
perform in conformity with the warranty made herein, we shall be liable
solely for the repair and replacement of the product as provided
hereinabove, and shall have no other liability in respect of such failure or
performance or any consequences therefrom including, without
limitation, business impairment or loss, personal injury or property or
property damage.

No agent, employee, or representative of ours has any authority to bind
us to any representation or warranty concerning the product sold herein.
No representation or alteration or modification of the foregoing conditions
shall be valid unless made in writing and signed by an executive officer
of our corporation.
