Alhamdulilah, I am most grateful to Allah, the most gracious and most merciful for his
blessings. His Excellency, En. Muddin Beting Timbalan Pengarah JPN Sabah, Education
officers, respected principals, teachers and participants.

Good afternoon. This year, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the virtual debate
competition, for the first time, is done via online, over our digital platform. On behalf of Kota
Marudu Education Office, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome and thank all of
you for taking time off to attend this historic debate competition virtually. I would also like to
congratulate and thank the organisers, accompanying teachers and participants for all your
hard work and efforts throughout this competition.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Debate competition is an excellent platform that provides participants to show their talent
outside the classroom. This competition is not only to boost the participants confidence to
communicate in English but to motivate them to enhance their English competency. However,
it is worth noting that a salient feature of this competition is to strenghthen unity among
students from diverse background as it is serves a great platform to indirectly bolster national
unity.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

To sum up, I hope everyone has learned something from the Virtual Debate Competition.

I wish all of you productive and joyful time ahead. Once again, I would like to congratulate
and thank the organizers for inviting me as well as ensuring this event to success. Lastly, I
would also like to congratulate all teachers and participants who have put their hearts and soul
into the competition.

Good afternoon to distinguished guests, teachers, participants, ladies, and gentlemen.

Alhamdulilah, first and foremost, I am most grateful to Allah, the most gracious and
most merciful, for his blessings in giving us the opportunity to organize Tan Sri Datuk Seri
Panglima Dr. Abdul Rahman Arshad Challenge Trophy English Language Debate
Competition 2021.

I would like to express my utmost gratitude and appreciation to all committee members of
Virtual Debate Competition in ensuring the success of this event amid a pandemic, for
inviting me to this wonderful occasion. This year, the Debate Competition was held in
according to the new norm. It was challenging but I hope that the preparation and hospitality
shown by the committee members have made this programme more enjoyable and smooth
sailing. I would also like to congratulate and thank all accompanying teachers and participants
for all your hardwork and efforts throughout this competition.

I am happy to note that Debate Competition is an execellent time for participants to showcase
their talents and further improve their English. Of course, everyday during teaching and
learning sessions, they have chances to improve their English through reading, writing,
speaking and listening activities conducted. However, activity like debate competition can be
an important medium to promote the use of English outside the classroom contexts. In short, I
hope that Debate Competition has given more opportunities to the students to participate in
using the language.

As mentioned before, this carnival has the goal of increasing students’ chances to use
and improve their English. By being in English language surrounding, students will be
motivated and encouraged to use English too. Besides that, the activity conducted also aim to
improve participants’ confidence level in using the second language. I wish that after this

competition, participants will continue to improve their English at home with friends and
family.

To all the participants it is indeed your responsibility as a students to make sure that
your English Language learning goes beyond schoolbooks and homework. It should be a
lifelong process. The opportunities are there for you, so make sure to not take it for granted.

Before I conclude, I once again would like to congratulate and thank the organisers for
inviting me as well as ensuring this event a success. On this final note, I would also like to
congratulate all teachers and participants who have put their heart and soul in the competition
held.
