How to do I become a Corporate member? LET’S GET YOU STARTED. YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING: - Articles of Incorporation. - Certificate of Incorporation. - Notice of Address of the company desiring to join the COB. - Notice of Directors of the company desiring to join the COB. - The by-laws of the company desiring to join the COB. - Proof of address of and copies of government issued identification of all directors. - A letter from the company addressed to the COB indicating their desire to join the credit union. - A statement of purpose for which the entity is seeking to become a member of the credit union (Included in the Due Diligence Questionnaire). - Written confirmation from the corporate body that the person(s) acting on the applicant’s behalf is duly authorized to act in that capacity (Included in the Resolution). - Signed resolution of the directors. - A copy of our completed due diligence questionnaire. - Banker’s reference.
Merchant Services It’s a first for the Credit Union and we are absolutely thrilled to introduce COB’s Merchant Services to our members and businesses in Barbados. Now transactions between you and your customers are now faster, easier, more convenient and safe. Before you take a tour of our suite of services let’s define Merchant Services. MERCHANT SERVICES The term "merchant services” refers, first and foremost, to the various services and equipment businesses rely on to accept and process payments from their customers via credit cards, debit cards, and electronic payment methods. So, let’s get you started with a COB Merchant Account today. WHAT IS A COB MERCHANT ACCOUNT? A merchant account is a business account that enables businesses to accept and process any electronic payment or card transactions. It allows businesses to accept card payments and thus allows for more convenient and safe transaction for both the business and its customer. It especially reduces the risks for the business when it comes to issues such as dishonored checks or any security risks that can occur when a business has large sums of money on the owner or business premises.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF A COB MERCHANT ACCOUNT? It will empower your company to accept money via credit cards and debit cards on-site and in real time. It is safer than having a large sum of cash on the premises and reduces the risk of theft or robbery. It enables your business to facilitate online payments and e-commerce solutions. HOW DO I GET A COB MERCHANT ACCOUNT? Many financial institutions provide this service, however, what is required may differ based on each entity and the type of company requesting to open the merchant account. While there may be some small variations among financial institutions we will ask for one or all of the following documents: - SOLE TRADER - Copies of Certification of Registration and valid Government issued identification. - PARTNERSHIP - Copies of certification and valid Government issued identification for each partner. - LIMITED LIABILITY COMPANY - will have to also provide the documentation associated with the opening of a corporate account (Articles of Incorporation, Certificate of Compliance/Continuance, Notice of Directors, Notice of Secretary and any other relevant documents. C.O.B CCCU Convention Award (CCCA) Hosted each year at an all-inclusive Caribbean resort, two members will be awarded an all-expenses paid, member education journey. You will benefit from attending the annual Caribbean Confederation of Credit Union Conference. This exciting and rewarding event provides tremendous learning and growth opportunities to members. You will benefit from workshops, seminars, visits to credit unions of the host territory and other networking events. SO HOW DO YOU QUALIFY? In order to be considered members must meet the following criteria: - Must hold membership for at least five (5) years. - Must have a minimum of $150.00 in savings. - Must have the full range of our electronic services. - Any loan held by a member must be in good standing. - Must have attended all meetings called during the previous financial year. - Must not have received a convention award previously. - Must not be a board, committee and staff member. - Must not have served as a former staff, or committee member within the last six-year years. - Must have valid passport and visa. If you meet this criterion then you will be automatically eligible for the COB CCCU Scholarship for both under 35s and over 35s. The C.O.B C.A.R.E.S Maxine Mcclean Scholarship & Awards Programme WHAT IS THE C.O.B C.A.R.E.S MAXINE MCCLEAN SCHOLARSHIP & AWARDS PROGRAMME? The C.O.B C.A.R.E.S Maxine McClean Scholarship and Awards Programme is the premier benefits initiative for junior savers. The Programme is designed to recognize and reward our youthful savers at every major developmental stage as they pursue their dreams. As a caring organization we are also pleased to recognize those who also excel in the arts, sports and culture. Our Programme has no parallel and continues to meet the expectations of all our members. WHAT ARE THE MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS? Applicants must be current C.A.R.E.S account holders under the age of twenty-six (26). Applicants are required to be a member of the C.O.B Credit Union for a minimum of one year and have demonstrated a willingness to save. The minimum account balance required is contingent on the category of award to be applied for. IN WHAT AREAS CAN APPLICATIONS BE MADE? Applications are open to students who would have pursued studies during the recently completed school year. The categories are as follows: 1. BARBADOS SECONDARY SCHOOLS' ENTRANCE EXAMINATION (COMMON ENTRANCE) 2. CARIBBEAN SECONDARY EDUCATION CERTIFICATE (CSEC) 3. CARIBBEAN ADVANCED PROFICIENCY EXAMINATION (CAPE) 4. BARBADOS COMMUNITY COLLEGE (ASSOCIATE DEGREE PROGRAMME) 5. SAMUEL JACKMAN PRESCOD INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY 6. CARES CREATIVITY, INDUSTRY, ARTS AND ATHLETICS (CCIAA) 7. SPECIAL NEEDS (DIFFERENTLY-ABLE STUDENTS) 8. UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES HOW CAN I APPLY? Applications normally become available in July each year. Application forms can be downloaded from our website or collected from any branch of the C.O.B Credit Union. WHO IS AWARDED? Outstanding students are awarded in each category having met the minimum eligibility requirements and based on their performance. HOW ARE THE AWARDS ADMINISTERED? Awards are monetary and credited directly to the member’s account. The scholarship/grant is a one-time disbursement to the account.
THE ADRIAN GRIFFITH FUND WHAT IS THE ADRIAN GRIFFITH MEMBER ASSISTANCE FUND? The Adrian Griffith Member Assistance Fund is a special programme that provides practical and financial assistance exclusive to COB members and their immediate family. WHO QUALIFIES? If you are a member of COB credit union in good standing, but in dire financial need because of an urgent health or humanitarian issue, then you may apply. WHAT ARE THE AREAS THAT IT COVERS? The fund aids with medical expenses, urgent home repairs, funeral expenses, living expenses and house fires to name a few. Last year we assisted 40 members to the tune of $114,451.00. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET AN ANSWER? An independent review committee meets at least once a month to consider all applications. In the event of an urgent need, the committee may elect to meet as needed. Once an application is approved the member is notified within one business day. HOW CAN I APPLY? Members must complete the application form in its entirety and provide supporting documentation before making their submission at any of our branches. Incomplete applications cannot be considered. DOES THE FUND COVER EVERY EXPENSE? No. The fund is designed to provide relief and assistance to those members whose may be classified as vulnerable or disadvantaged. The fund will not cover expenses associated with personal pursuits or projects that a member may choose to undertake. Each application will be vetted to establish its authenticity and the need presented is both legitimate and meets the established criteria.
