2017 Board of Directors Message from Board of Director & Finance

William Reilly, Jr. | President Committee Chair Ed Hostmann
Stephen Shepard | Vice President | Field House
I have the pleasure of serving as the Chairman of the
Douglas Goe | Secretary-Treasurer Finance Committee and am fortunate to work with
a talented Committee comprised of Jim Franzen,
Directors David Alexander, Don Blair, Greg Galbraith, Dean
Griffith, Blake Howells, Doug Kintzinger, Peter
Patrick Becker, Jr. | Tournament Potwin and Mark Rawlinson. The Finance Committee
Walter Evans III | House is responsible for the oversight of financial matters pertaining to the Club and
establishes general policies relating to such financial matters. In coordination
Edward Hostmann | Finance with the Board of Directors and Chief Operating Officer, the Finance Committee
Jeffrey Johnson | Green reviews the financial performance of the Club and establishes specific budgets to
maintain the facility and provide services consistent with the members’ expected
Steven Klein | Membership Enhancement standards. This year, the Board of Directors has asked the Committee to consider
Brian Rice | Long Range Planning its cash management policies and develop a capital funding plan that will help
support future improvements to the facility.
Board of Governors
Historically, Waverley has been able to support an ongoing program to replace
Gail Joseph | President aged equipment and maintain the golf course and physical plant through new
Nancy Dalton | Vice President member initiation and capital fees. Each year approximately $750,000 has been
required to meet this demand. This year, the significant capital projects supported
Kelley Dulcich | Secretary by initiation fee income will include the repaving of Waverly Drive, renovation of
Kathleen Ames | Treasurer the Women’s Locker Room, and improving the entry to the Grille from the parking
Michelle Becker | Assistant Treasurer lot. To meet the capital budget requirement, 18 to 20 new Proprietary members
Helen Langley | Hospitality Chair are required each year. An engaged and full membership is the key; this allows
Susie Porter | Program Chair us to maintain our fine facilities and provide the services that we all so enjoy.
Sue Merz | Assistant Program
Heidi Bell | Junior Activities The Board is committed to approving a “break-even” annual operating budget
Jillian Cain | Assistant Junior Activities fully supported by member dues and departmental income. At times, this can be
Lynn Pratt | 9 Hole Team Captain quite challenging, particularly this year when the winter weather took a toll on
Kris Wilkins | 9 Hole Assistant Team Captain member use of the Club. In recent weeks, the management team and Finance
Charisse Spada | 18 Hole Team Captain Committee have considered several opportunities to manage costs that will allow
DeeDee Cook | 18 Hole Assistant Team Captain the Club to operate within the approved budget. Fortunately, these adjustments
will not interfere with the member experience or curtail any services. Excluding
Senior Staff initiation and capital fees, the annual operating revenue in the 2015/2016 fiscal
year was $7,662,734 with operating expenses at the same level. The graphs below

Message from Chief Operating Officer Table of Contents

Bruce Pruitt, CCM CCE Page 4
Hours of Operation
In early February, I had the opportunity to attend the Club Managers Speaker Series Dinner
Association World Conference and Club Business St. Patrick’s Day Dinner
Exposition in Orlando. 2017 was the association’s Wine by the Glass
90th year of bringing together managers for
several days of education and networking. Over Page 5
2,000 members of the association (of the 4,500 Easter Brunch & Dinner
clubs represented in the association) participated Fat Cork Champagne Tasting
in more than 70 education sessions led by notable History Committee at Work
leaders inside and outside the industry as well as Welcome New Members
attended an exposition spotlighting products and
services specific to the private club industry. I Page 6
joined the Association in 1982 and have had the Brunch Cooking Class
opportunity to attend several of their conferences. Each year, I find Burger Night Wednesdays
it quite interesting that no matter the location, size, or number of Fajita Fridays
members at a Club, most managers and their clubs seem to share the Ladies’ Spring Luncheon
same challenges. Some of the more interesting topics explored this Prime Rib Sundays
year included attracting and retaining staff, the millennium workforce,
and club’s considerations for future growth and stability. Page 7
Guest Suites & Egan Cottage
Relevant to the continued growth of a Club, Waverley has been quite Grille Update
diligent over the years in maintaining a facility Master Plan. In Private Events
2015, a Master Plan Ad Hoc Committee worked to update the Master
Plan; this plan was initiated by the Board in 2009 when Dave Davies Page 8
was Club President. Their primary focus was to consider the Grille Field House Merchandise
renovation in coordination with the use of the riverside and pool Men’s One Day Member Guest
areas. To complete the process of updating of the Master Plan, Paul Message from Head Golf Professional
Breuer has been asked by the Board to Chair an Ad Hoc Committee. Message from Green Superintendent
This Committee will consider the future projects that were rated as a Rules Walk
priority by the members in the 2013 membership survey, as well as
projects suggested by various committees. Page 9
Evans Scholarship Update
Following the renovation of the golf course, the Green Committee and Men’s Invitational Drawing
Board of Directors have been committed to developing long range Shamrock Green Tees Tournament
plans for improvements to the range and practice areas. This process Team Match Drawing
began early last year when representatives for the Green Committee Women’s 18 Hole One Day Member Guest
prioritized the improvements they felt were necessary for the practice
areas, starting with the inefficiencies of the irrigation and drainage. In Page 10
coordination with the Master Plan Ad Hoc Committee, Jeff Johnson 18 Hole | Women’s Schedule of Events
and Brian Rice will Chair an Ad Hoc Committee to continue with the
practice area planning. Page 11

Member participation at Club events and the support of the dining 9 Hole | Women’s Schedule of Events
