WINTER 2024 1 SUNDAY worship SERVICES AT 9 & 11 AM Worship is what we were made for and what our weekend services are all about. There is so much about God to worship, and there are so many ways to do it. Our services include music and singing, hearing and learning from God’s Word, as well and thanking God and giving to His work. ASL available at the 9:00 AM services and headphones are available at all services for those who are hard of hearing—just ask an usher for assistance.

FIRST SUNDAY EVERY MONTH 1 PM | GUEST SERVICES January 7, February 4, March 3 It only takes a few familiar faces to make a church feel more like family. Come enjoy a warm brunch, meet some new friends, and hear a little about our church and how you can get more connected. NEWCOMERS brunch SUNDAY, JANUARY 7 9 & 11 AM Services | Worship Center The new year is a natural time to freshly ask the question, “Why are we doing what we are doing? “Pastor Seth will give a special “State of the Church” sermon at both Sunday services. We will come together as a congregation in the evening to seek God in prayer for His blessing and power to pursue His vision for our church. MARCH 31 | 9 & 11 AM BE BAPTIZED this Easter BAPTISM CLASS MARCH 3 | 11 AM | THE BARN Register online Baptism is an old and rich symbol that represents something deep and spiritual. Jesus taught us that to be a Christian is to have something happen to you, to be born again into a whole new way of relating to God. To help you understand all that this means, we’ve designed a class that will help you get ready for your baptism. If you’re a parent and your child has come to place their faith in Christ and is ready to be baptized we have a guide available to help them. To register for the baptism class, please visit myfac.org/baptism. REALIZING OUR Potential I s anybody ready to turn the page on 2023 and go into 2024? I know I am. One of the things that a new year brings is a whole new set of opportunities to experience the transforming and maturing work that the Holy Spirit is doing in our lives. Much of this work happens so deep down that we’re not aware of it until we get little glimpses of how we’ve changed. As a young boy at the start of a new school year, my dad would stand me next to a door frame and mark my height on it. If you asked me on any given day if I felt I was growing, the answer would be ‘no.’ However, after a year the difference was undeniable between where the top of my head was to where it had grown. One of the great things about being part of a large church like Fellowship is the many opportunities we have to learn, fellowship, contribute, and grow. The magazine in your hand is the result of hundreds of people’s efforts and is a wide-open invitation to keep growing in Christ. I wanted to take this opportunity to highlight a few things in this magazine that I see as very critical to God’s work collectively in our church. Although we may not see it while it’s happening, our Heavenly Father could stand us up in the doorway and mark a line to show how He has grown us up as a congregation over the last year. One sign of a healthy and growing church is a natural orientation to face outward. The most natural thing for an immature person to do is to spend most of their time thinking about themselves. Similarly, the path of least resistance for a church is to spend the most time and resources on things that benefit us. A maturing person understands their identity and worth in Christ, and is freed up to pour out their energy, focus, and resources into loving and filling others. In the same way, a mature congregation has a firm grasp on the truths of the message of the gospel, our new identity, and our sense of worth in Christ. That combination of inner maturity and outward facing energy was precisely the combination the Apostle Paul made the thrust of the first of his letters to the Corinthians. Starting in January, I’ll be teaching a series through 1 Corinthians called “Living Next to Unbelief.” By God’s sovereignty, we find ourselves living in a A LETTER FROM PASTOR SETH culture where more and more people we rub shoulders with on a daily basis do not have a belief in God. In this faith crisis, one thing we have an abundance of is a growing target audience for the good news of what God has done for us in Christ. My hope is that God’s teaching through Paul will help to build our inner strength and stoke our desires to see many people who we could never imagine coming into faith be born again by the power of our surprising Holy Spirit. Also in the letter of 1 Corinthians, Paul especially urges the diligent ministry of the church’s men. This semester we’ll be offering for the first time the complementary course for men that many of their wives have already been through in True Woman 101 and 201 (pg. 19). True Man (pg. 18) will be a practical workshop that teaches what a man is, what God designed men to be and to do, how sin cuts differently across a man’s life, and how being born again does not lead to a unisex Christian but to a redeemed and Godly man. If you’re a little fuzzy on those principals or maybe hearing about them for the first time, I urge you to be a part of this critically important study. FELLOWSHIP seasonal magazine 4

Another first time offering is a special Sunday on January 7 that I’m calling the “State of the Church” sermon. It’s the first half of a two part Vision Sunday. In that sermon, I’ll be sharing my sense of where we are as a congregation, and what I think is an area of growth and focus for us as a church in 2024. Vision Sunday (pg. 2) will culminate with an evening of prayer and worship where we dedicate our church’s life in 2024 to God’s purposes, asking Him to guide us and to make our efforts fruitful. Unless the Lord builds a house, the laborers labor in vain. This is His church, He’s the foreman and we’re on His work crew. The last thing I want to highlight is a part of our year that is one of my favorites— our Unashamed Conference (pg. 8). Here I have the opportunity to address current social and theological issues in a more robust way than I can do in a Sunday sermon. Given the intensity of our times, it makes a lot of sense to me that the cry from within Christianity is for a supernatural move from God that would transform the church and redirect the momentum of our culture. Given this hunger for a move of God, I see our enemy counterfeiting a real move of God with many versions that are waterless clouds (Jude 1:12). This means they have the appearance of refreshing rain, but once they’ve passed by, people were just as dry as they were before. If you call Fellowship home, I want to urge you to set aside February 23 and 24. Be there as I address the false ideologies of movements and high-profile leaders operating under the umbrella of Christianity, but whose philosophies and message are off course and unbiblical. At the same time, I’ll articulate historically what had been the common elements and evidence of a true supernatural move of God so that we can pray for God to do it again in our day. With all these opportunities ahead, my desire for you is to experience God growing you and changing you through these events and ministries. Remember, the events and ministries are not the things that change your life, they are tools in God’s hand as He accomplishes in your life what only He can do. To Him alone be all the credit, all the thanks, and all the glory. For His Glory, Pastor Seth ONE SIGN OF A HEALTHY AND GROWING CHURCH IS A NATURAL ORIENTATION TO FACE OUTWARD. WINTER 2024 5

This class will help you learn the core doctrines of our faith as you seek for God to make His presence known in your life, grow in your affection for Him, and hunger for a deeper knowledge of His Word. Light refreshments will be provided. *$10 | Purchase a workbook at the café Contact: Chris Rose, [email protected] Wednesdays, Starting January 10 6:30 – 8 PM | Café Today, people are frustrated and confused because no one knows whose version of truth they can trust. The bold claim of Christianity is that God Himself told us the history of Heaven and Earth. In 66 books, over thousands of years, men were used as God’s own pen to write the Bible. Is there anything more important? If you want to know the Truth, and what it means for you, join us as Pastor Seth takes 10 weeks to break down the Bible into episodes of divine history. However, the devil is also at work, so the wicked parts are getting darker and darker too. This means that every year we require more courage and clarity to side with the Holy Spirit. A primary strategy the devil uses to try and erode the truth is through teachers who masquerade as sheep, but inwardly are ravenous wolves (Matthew 7:15). Do you know how to spot them? Pastor Seth will look to God's Word for the genuine marks of a true move of God and show the differences between that and the groups that negatively influence Christianity today. God’s work in our lives is too big to be accomplished only on Sundays. To build on what God is doing in our church through Sunday worship, we have networks of smaller groups called Fellowship Groups. These groups meet for worship, Bible study, prayer, friendship, and service. We grow stronger in true spiritual friendships where we can experience the presence and power of Jesus together and be taught by Him through His Word. ABOUT One way God does His maturing work in our lives is by taking us through problems. Some problems we have been the cause of, others we had no hand in. In both cases, God has authored every day of our lives, so He grows us through our troubles. He accomplishes His good purposes for us even through really hard  days—giving us unshakeable hope. GIVE GIVEN IN FAITH “NOW FAITH IS THE ASSURANCE OF THINGS HOPED FOR, THE CONVICTION OF THINGS NOT SEEN.” Hebrews 11:1 WORSHIP THROUGH GIVING Why does God require an offering? He doesn't need the money, Jesus tells us that we are generous to the areas in our lives that captivate us. Nothing is worth more of our love and affection, our first and our best, than the Lord. He created everything, revealed Himself to us, and gave His life so we could enjoy Him forever. We know this to be true in our minds, let our treasure reveal that's where our hearts are found as well.
