Plans have been made for an impactful start to 2022, but before the kick-off, we
are commanded to submit our plans to the Lord (James 4:15). Scripture teaches
us that God knows what we need before we ask (Matthew 6:8) but He delights in
being asked humbly for great movements (James 5:16-17). Since a great move of
God’s Spirit is what we are looking for, we are calling an all-church prayer meeting
and time of worship to kick off the winter semester.

Since we have these promises,
beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing
holiness to completion in the fear of God. 2 Corinthians 7:1
How can a Christian pursue a life that is growing in spiritual and hold tightly to God’s true promises. One day, we will fully

How can we avoid staining our character by gratifying our In 2022, may we say with the Apostle John, “Amen. Come Lord

The answers are not in stoicism—killing off our desires, and
they are also not in the cult of self-love—pampering our
every desire. The answers are in what John Piper has called
Christian Hedonism—taking our desires at full volume to
God where He has ordained to satisfy and bring them to
completion in the joy, pleasure, and beauty of intimacy
with the Lord Jesus Christ.
“…I will make my dwelling among them and walk among

people…then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to
you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the

These promises are worth waiting for. What they
will bring is too honorable to be traded away for
momentary and synthetic versions of what He has
promised us. Jesus promised that while we patiently
wait for those, God the Holy Spirit will be poured out
in our hearts (Rom 5:5), giving to us a small portion
of the real joy, pleasure, and satisfaction of closeness
with God in heaven, while leaving us so that we
still long for Him to come (Eph 1:14). Satisfied, yet
aching for Him, is the Christian life.
This Spirit-sourced pleasure is authentic, so that
even a small drop of the real thing is more rich
than unlimited gallons of synthetic peace, joy,
courage, or love. Is there anything you are
turning to for false peace, or fast-food joy, or a
shallow sense of worth? No matter how much
of it you could ever get, it will never satisfy you
the way the real thing from God will. Let’s listen

Support
The challenges confronting us today are complex. We face issues that can drag us and
our families down. Support groups offer help to move us toward the only real answer—a
relationship with God. Finding a support group for addictions and emotional needs may
be the most important step in your recovery journey. Joining with others in similar
circumstances brings hope and an understanding of the necessary steps to take. Most
importantly, all of our care groups point to Jesus and His power to heal.

GIVING “One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds
what he should give, and only suffers want.” –Proverbs 11:24
We should not be surprised that life itself gets behind generosity and pushes against greed because God is generous and He made
everything. Since the church is God’s household, His values are what we desire and find beautiful. God did not spare giving His only
begotten Son for His household (Romans 8:32); we should respond fittingly. Let us not shortchange ourselves from all the blessings
that flow from generous giving.
