ANNUAL MAGAZINE 2022-23 www.spsbhopal.ac.in Tides

Life is often compared to an ocean, with its calm and still moments, as well as its rough and rigid ones. But no matter what, it is always beautiful. Just like the tides that constantly shift between high and low, our thoughts also ebb and flow within our minds, shaping our emotions and actions. The human mind is vast and inexplicable, with thoughts that can be as small as ripples on the surface of our consciousness or as powerful as crashing waves. Despite the unpredictability that lies beneath the surface, we can still find peace and serenity. At Sagar Public School, Dwarka Dham, we are elated to present our magazine, TIDES. This is our way of expressing various ideas and concepts, while promoting the importance of preserving a healthy and engaged culture. Our aim is to raise awareness about the importance of holistic development in children. We hope that 'TIDES' will serve as a catalyst for even more artistic expression and engagement within our school. We invite you to dive into the pages of our first issue and discover for yourself the richness and diversity of our school. The Editorial Board Sagar Public School, Dwarka Dham. Editorial Patron Ms. Arti Khillan Principal Ms. Saima Siddiqui Head Mistress (VI-VIII) Dr. Arshi Gouhar Supervisor (III-V) Chief Editor Mr. Rahul Raikwar Ms. Sonal Trehan Supervisor (I-II) Ms. Amrita Tople Supervisor (Pre-primary) Support Creatives & Designing Mr. Subodh Shukla

The quest for happiness is a fundamental part of the human life. The need to be happy is the most sought-after human quality at every level, national, organizational, as well as individual. School plays an active role in developing an instinct for happiness in students. The question is, can happiness flourish in the absence of healthy habits? No. And then, what are the ABC’s of healthy habits? Certainly, nourishing food, adequate sleep, quality time with family and the commitment to do something meaningful each day. In today’s age of information overdose, it is also necessary to unplug, to limit news, avoid social media and also practice certain level of austerity. By sharing and reinforcing these tenets in our students, we offer preparation for future. We are the country with the youngest workforce in the world – as much as half the population of the country is under the age of 25. At the same time, the eighth India Skills Report reveals almost half of Indian graduates are unemployable. It is time to wrestle this problem to the ground. With a remarkably high fund allocation to education in the budget of 2023, we get the much-needed impetus to do better and contribute substantially in nurturing India’s future citizens to be highly skilled and competent. As per the reports, India is on track to become the world’s third largest economy by 2027, and much of the onus lies on education. We ought to become more responsive towards preparing our students to be healthy both physically and mentally so that they can imbibe the skills necessary for a meaningful life and make fruitful contributions to the future of our country. Shri Sudhir Kumar Agrawal Chairman, Sagar Group “ e key to happiness lies not in the external world, but rather within your own being.” 01

Time has changed, with that the environment around us has changed too. However, what has not changed are our fundamental values. One book, one pen, one child and one teacher hold the transformational power to change the world. Teachers have been tasked to educate for change and through change. The approach should be to encourage collaboration, negotiation and engagement of the young minds. Just as we have adapted to technology, we should embrace those lessons that are fundamental to living in harmony and social progress, such as tolerance and empathy. Without values we can not create better civil and democratic societies. Shri M G Paranjape Director, Sri Satya Sai School, MP & CG National Advisor, Sri Satya Sai School, India “True education is one that implants humane vibes in the minds of the students.” 02

My Dear Children, You come to an educational institution to lay down a strong foundation for your development to become a useful member of your family, society and country you belong to.This is the most important phase of your life. Your efforts, attention and sincerity for the best education will build your strength and ability to achieve the target to lead a successful life. Human beings have been provided with two rare qualities- Intelligence and Determination. However these will be effective only if they are guided by their vision. Swami Vivekananda has advised that the people themselves should lay down the objectives and vision of their desire to attain success. The example of Lord Krishna is very apt in this regard. He was born in a royal family, he could have lived a very comfortable life. However, due to certain circumstances, he spent the first 12 years of his life in a village where he looked after domestic animals like cows. When he was 12, he returned to his birth place – “Mathura” and helped his grandfather to become the king. Then he left his princely environment and went to Rishi Sandipani’s Ashram and for next 12 years he devoted himself towards receiving education and various expertise. He has set an example that when God takes human form even he has to struggle to achieve success in life. Teachers are to guide you and you should always take their instructions and advice seriously both in your classroom studies as well as in modifying your behaviour. Face the challenges that come to your way, as a student as well as a member of the society. Air Commodore B. K. Nigam (Retd.) VSM Advisor “ rough persistent effort and determination, anything can be achieved.” 03

“To improve is to change: to perfect is to change often” Metamorphosis is an immutable law of life. We have accepted it as one of the threads in the fabric of existence, yet, we never cease to be amazed by the rate at which the changes are taking place. What seemed fantastic and exciting when we were young, is mundane to the child of today. We have to navigate through this ‘swiftly tilting planet’ with a holistic and responsible approach and a growth mindset. A morass - of new technologies, new inventions and even new languages - threatens to overwhelm us. It is time to strike out in the new directions envisioned by the New Education Policy. At all the six branches of SPS, we are committed to implementing it with genuine intentions. “You must welcome change as the rule, but not as your ruler” Nevertheless, the precepts that are the bedrock of human nature, the basic precepts of kindness, faith and love, continue to guide and govern us like the pole star. In a world of ephemeral truths, another constant that shines through is the relationship between the ‘Guru’ and the ‘Shishya’ founded on the learner’s inborn respect and the teacher’s instinct to nurture, whether that teacher is a parent or an educationist. This is practiced in true spirit at Sagar Public School where teachers and parents live these virtues and guide, support, mentor and nurture the child with utmost care and love. “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” As the roads to learning multiply, we equip our children with the best we can offer in terms of wisdom, insights, ideas and thinking skills. Children learn from everyone, everywhere and all the time, but of all the places where learning happens, nowhere is as safe or as sanctified as the school. For more than two decades, we at SPS have played a significant role in the child’s essential journey and promise to continue making a positive and indelible difference in every child’s character, behaviour and learning. Dr. Jaishree Kanwar Director Sagar Public Schools “Adaptation is a continuous necessity.” 04

Education is never a stagnant process. Its needs are ever - evolving and school should keep pace with the requirements of changing times. The danger lies in turning a blind eye to the need of the hour. School should empower the child with the right skill sets suitable for new generation. Constructive creativity and innovative thinking are of paramount importance now. The framework of education should not be so rigid that the child’s innate creativity is lost. To a child the word spirituality often signifies rituals and prayers. The school can help them realise that healthy mind is the outcome of practical spirituality. With the divine element active in the mind, it is possible to be positive always. A cheerful disposition in the face of life’s vicissitudes is an attitude that needs to be cultivated with the help of spirituality. Optimism is faith; it is faith that leads to accomplishments. We must know that emphasis on pedagogy alone does not provide complete education. A school planner needs to include VHEM that means Values, Humanitarianism, Ethics and Morals. So not only train the mind and body, but simultaneously train the Heart. Shri Kamal Kishore Dubey Director HRD Sagar Public Schools “We can’t change the direction of the wind, But we can adjust our sails to reach the destination.” 05

Nothing illuminates the life of any young person more than knowledge and the capacity to bring about positive transformation. Our students are the optimism of today and the delight of tomorrow. The future holds guarantees and aspirations for the youth that can without a doubt be accomplished. The primary years of a child's life lay the basis for future advancement. Thinking, socialization, and communication abilities are fundamental for comprehensive development that starts early in life. It is essential to reflect on the vital role that parents and teachers play in the education of their children. Parental involvement has a profound effect on a child's academic and social success, and it is essential that parents take an active part in their child's learning. Studies have shown that when parents are involved in their child's education, their child is more likely to excel in school, has better attendance, and has higher graduation rates. Therefore, it is imperative for parents and teachers to provide children with the nurturing and care they need to blossom. In the world of education, one size certainly does not fit all. Each student is unique, with their own individual strengths, needs, and learning styles. To ensure that all students can reach their full potential, teachers must differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of their students. Differentiation in education is indispensable for helping students reach their highest potential. At our school, we are committed to providing a safe, supportive, and stimulating learning environment for all. By working together, we can create a positive learning experience for children that will equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in the future. Ms. Arti Khillan Principal, Sagar Public School, Dwarka Dham “Perseverance leads to a journey of transmutation.” 06

At the outset, we express our gratitude to the Almighty God for all the mercies we have experienced over the scholastic year 2022–2023. ACADEMICS We strongly believe that Excellence is not an accomplishment, it is a spirit, a never- ending process Therefore we strive for Excellence and near perfection in areas of School Education i.e Human Excellence, Academic Excellence and Environmental too. As far as Academic Excellence is concerned, Sagar Public Schools have been stepping from success to success all through the years since its inception in 2001 and the past year has been no exception. We have done excellently well in academic areas. At this juncture, I wish to put on record the outstanding performances of our students in CBSE Board Examinations. Siddhi Gothi from SPS Saket Nagar from Biology stream is a city and State topper scored 99.2% in class XII. Yashna Badiye from class X scored 99.4% and was the city topper. Cash scholarships of more than one crore are awarded to the meritorious students for excellent results in X, XI and XII. Those who excel at National, State and District level in performing arts and sports are also eligible to get these scholarships. The name SPS Dwarka Dham is synonymous with Continuous and Regular Assessment of students learning outcomes and best teaching practices. Instead of learning solely through tests, students’ evaluation is based on their exploration of the world around them and their mastery of fundamental Mathematics and Scientific ideas through various creative projects. Asset Diagnostic Test was conducted right in the beginning of the year and then during summer holidays, an Academic camp for bridging the learning gaps was organised. End-of-term exams, extra classes, revisions, unit tests, class assessments, assignments, project work, Mock tests and remediation have always held students' attention. Annual Report 07 “The future belongs to those who prepare for it today and education is the passport to a glorious future.” Ms. Arti Khillan Principal 2022-23

CO-CORRICULAR ACTIVITIES Human Excellence is achieved through plethora of school assemblies, activities, and celebrations which lay a strong emphasis on life skills education including role plays , health education, like skill assemblies, meditation, Yoga, and community service. Every Friday is our vocabulary day. We as teachers emulate the behavior which we want to manifest in our students. A multitude of hands-on Science activities result in the development of higher order thinking abilities, and promote participation of students and parents in our initiatives for water management, energy checks, and the reduction of air pollution through Go Green initiatives. We at SPS constantly strive to achieve the ideal balance between academic and extracurricular pursuits, preparing and nurturing our youngsters for the future. In addition to helping children excel, learners are given the opportunity to learn through debating, quizzing, singing, as well as Artificial Intelligence. Modern society abounds with complexities and challenges. Through expert advice and counselling programmes, the Counselling Cell hopes to equip the students to handle these behavioural issues successfully. It focuses on helping students realise their individual potentials, which are both hidden and ingrained in them. Talking about environmental excellence, quite obviously SPS has struck a resonant chord among citizens of Bhopal with an aggregate enrolment of 11,000 students. The newest of the six Sagar Public Schools but with an experience of 22 years, has received high praise for offering challenging extracurricular and academic environment. Each classroom is equipped with a smart board, with capital-intensive Science, Computer, and Math Labs, and a well-stocked library with books in every imaginable genre and a huge auditorium. A complex of sports includes State of the art Badminton Courts, Table Tennis, 3 Swimming pools, basketball courts, soccer field, Judo and Yoga halls. Futsal and Skating rink is in the offing. The mess facility of our school is very close to the heart of our parents and students. A fleet of School buses, wingers and travellers with lady attendants ensure safe and secure travel of our students and teachers. Innovation is the shift that reveals new value, resulting in advancement and success. The school is committed to innovation, and it constantly incorporates the most recent pedagogical techniques. Thanks to Tata Edge for making Robotics, Automation and Drones as the integral part of the classroom. Entab is one such communication platform between school and parents At SPS, we think that winning depends more on the calibre of the competition than final result. The glory of competitions comes from dedication, determination and desire. However, our school students ignited their splendour in all directions. 08

Thank you to our staff, parents, and students for their support and co-operation. At our school, we believe that education is not just about textbooks and grades. It is about developing a well-rounded personality, acquiring life skills, and preparing for the challenges that lie ahead. In this academic year, we are placing a special emphasis on the logical development of our students' mathematical skills. We recognize the importance of mathematics in today's world and the need for our students to develop strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. To achieve this, we are implementing innovative teaching methods and providing ample opportunities for our students to hone their mathematical skills. To our parents, I would like to reiterate the importance of your involvement in your child’s education, especially in developing their mathematical skills. We value your support and co-operation, and we encourage you to work with us in fostering a love for mathematics in our students. As we navigate through another academic year, let us work together to create a safe, inclusive, and inspiring learning environment that fosters intellectual growth, critical thinking, and creativity, especially in the field of mathematics. With a collective effort, I am confident that we can achieve our goals and aspirations and make our school a beacon of excellence in the field of education. I wish you all a productive and successful academic year ahead. Saima Siddiqui, Head Mistress VI-VIII “Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think.” We, at Sagar Public Schools emphasise experiential learning where students are provided with ample opportunities for active participation in varied activities. We always work towards the all-round development of all our students, and to achieve it in a real sense, we encourage maximum participation in intra and inter school activities. Educational trips and practical activities are incorporated into the curriculum to satisfy children's curiosity while also fostering an attitude and approach to creative and critical thinking. As a Section Supervisor of Classes III-V, I, together with my team of dedicated, qualified, and trained teachers, always try to facilitate the holistic development of our students. Students of this age group are in an important phase of their development, and we always try to help them achieve not only academic excellence but also good moral values and a sense of responsibility towards society and humanity. We are in a continuous process of getting feedback from our parents, who are our partners in education, in order to improve in all the areas of nurturing, training, and development of our children. With the guidance and motivation of our Principal and Management, we will continue to strive for instilling moral and social values as well as academic progress in our children. Dr. Arshi Gouhar, Section Supervisor III-V I feel a real sense of privilege in having the opportunity to be an integral part of the educational fraternity. It was very rightly said that "Education is a shared commitment between dedicated teachers, motivated students, and enthusiastic parents." Sagar Public Schools have made a mark of educational excellence based on firmly embedded values, a passion for learning, and an environment that inspires through its sheer diversity. In keeping with our school motto, "Child is Supreme," we at SPS Dwarka Dham foster outstanding relationships from which students, parents, teachers, and staff draw their ambition to do well and make a lasting contribution to school life and society at large. At our school, we aim to nurture students, work for their holistic development, and recognise the importance of early childhood education to help children grow and develop through age-appropriate experiences. Learning may be expressed in a variety of ways through language, play, drama, art, music, and movement. We help the children develop their innate curiosity about the world around them. Children are encouraged to cultivate their imagination and knowledge in order to be in charge of their own learning. We groom our students from a very early age to foster respect for diversity that prepares them for participation in a complex and changing world. We strongly believe in the importance of parents, teachers, and administrators working in unison, thereby ensuring a happy and fruitful academic year ahead. Parents Forum PTM Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) play a crucial role in promoting effective communication between educators and parents. This collaboration ensures that we all work closely together to enhance the child's educational experience. Assessments are an essential tool that provides teachers with valuable feedback on how effectively they have delivered the curriculum. These assessments also help identify students' weaknesses or challenges, prompting the necessary interventions to address them adequately. These meetings provide an opportunity for parents and teachers to exchange ideas, share concerns, and work together to create a supportive learning environment for our students. PARENTS’ ORIENTATION When parents, teachers, and students work together, learning becomes a sport. Sagar Public School, Dwarka Dham organized a Parents' Orientation Program to inform parents about the school systems and its unique features. The school Principal, Ms. Arti Khillan, provided an overview of the school's vision, mission, and core values. TRIATHLON COMPETITION A Triathlon Competition was organized by the sports department, specifically for parents. This was a unique opportunity for them to demonstrate their commitment to health and fitness, while also setting a positive example for their children. 34

However, his most memorable moment came when he was asked to perform the opening puja for the school. Rajni Darda (Mother- Arham Darda VI A) Who am “I”? A Parent or e Smart Parent? Being a good parent requires honesty and introspection to understand the difference between in uence, involvement, and interference. In uence is the ability to positively in uence your child's behaviour and decisions, whereas involvement is the time and effort you invest in their life. Interference is when you try to control or micromanage their life, which can damage their self-esteem and hinder their development. Good parenting involves providing guidance and support without interfering with their development and setting a good example to help them grow into responsible adults who are capable of making their own decisions and achieving their goals Respected Principal Madam, I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for all that school has done for my son during the session. As a mother, I can't thank you enough for the tremendous impact Razi had, especially in enhancing his oratorical skills. Continuous Teacher Training has a crucial role to play in the overall framework of quality education and the Teachers’ Training Cell at Sagar Public School, Bhopal, is committed to this fact. Subject Enrichment The quality of a teacher is estimated based on how much the students understand from his/her teaching. The pedagogic skills for teaching can be acquired only through more structured faculty training techniques, a requirement for which various micro teaching sessions are organized by the teachers during their weekly subject meetings. The mainstay of the session is to apprise the teachers how a little add-on video, audio or graphic can impact the quality of their teaching content. INTER SPS TRAINING These subject enhancement workshops held every three months by our trained and experienced faculty across SPS branches, are an amalgamation of PPTs, video presentations, fun filled activities and discussions, aiming at upgrading our teaching skills. OUTSOURCED TRAININGS The current workforce needs new skill sets to fulfill the job demands successfully. Eminent resource persons from diverse fields are invited to train the teachers by offering more extensive offerings than traditional teaching strategies can impart. A motivational session by Ramon Magsaysay Awardee, Dr. Kiran Bedi was organized on the topic, How to be a great leader for teachers of all the branches to strengthen their leaderdship qualities.
