编者的话

2017-2018 年度，欣欣信箱项目进入的第二年。参与通信交流的学校由一所小学变成了三所小学，几十名中美同
学结为笔友。它们分别是吉林省镇赉县新兴小学，陕西省咸阳市城关街办张家堡完小，陕西省洛川县交口河镇中心小
学。去年的笔友很多成为了朋友，现在还在继续通信。他们从新星小学毕业后如今已是初中生了。本期杂志也收录了
他们的通信。

这一年来成百上千封的通信无法全部呈现。透过我们截选的部分信件，字里行间仍然清晰可见同学们正直，乐观，
努力向上，朝气蓬勃的精神风貌。孩子们每天的生活虽然主要被学习填充着，他们好强，希望把学业完成得好。每人心
中都有自己的理想，不论将来要当老师还是艺术家，每天都在朝着自己的目标迈进。这一对对笔友，也是真心的朋友。
他们不仅帮忙修改对方通信里的语言错误，学习之外也讨论一些做人做事的道理。比如看到古建筑被有些游人刻字就觉
得很不好和应该禁止，要善待动物等等。当然除了一些严肃深刻的话题，朋友间也绝对不会忘记去分享观光旅游的所见
所闻，还有玩游戏的快乐。

当我一遍遍翻看中美两地同学的通信时，心中总是默默地感叹着：“学生们太优秀了！”美国的同学竟然可以写那
么好的中文信件，中国的学生可以写那么好的英文信件。他们不仅学业好，有爱心，有领导才能，还多才多艺。希望读
者细细阅读，也能和我一样被感动。同时期待中美两国学生在学习和交流中不断茁壮成长，未来对社会有所贡献，为中
美两国的发展和中美关系的推进添砖加瓦。

Letter From the Editor

With the passing of the 2017-2018 school year, the Shin Shin Mailbox Project completes its second year in success.
Our program has now expanded to include three Shin Shin elementary schools with several dozen pairs of pen pals participating
in this project, giving each other insight into their lives and learning from each other. Some of our Chinese students from last year
have even continued to write to their pen pals even after graduating from elementary school and entering junior high school,
maintaining the relationship that had been developed through dedicated writing.

We have received thousands of emails in our Mailbox, and it’s delightful to see some of the things our students are
writing about. Of course, it’s impossible to share with you everything that we’ve seen and read, but we’ve chosen a few of our
most outstanding letters to showcase in this magazine. As students, much of their time is spent studying, and we’ve seen that in
many of the emails. They’ve written about their struggles and successes in school, about their concerns regarding their grades,
and about how they strive to do well. However, they also write about so much more, ranging from the joy of playing games to
their hopes and dreams for the future. The bright personalities of all the students shine through their emails, and we can
appreciate the drive and potential each person has.

Through my experience in helping to manage this program, I have been both impressed and inspired by the letters
being written through our Mailbox. Students from the Bay Area can write letters so well in Chinese, and students from China can
write so well in English. Seeing these students talk about their dreams also makes me want to reach a little higher and dream a
little bigger, like they are all trying to do. I hope through reading this magazine you feel the same way.

Hi Alan, I have never heard of killers of the three kingdoms. I googled it, and it seems like an interesting game, except
its pretty much exclusively sold in China. I know that Werewolves of Miller's Hollow is based off Mafia, and I don't
really like that game, so I don't think I would enjoy Werewolves of Miller's Hollow. I think that you should try to learn
Magic: the Gathering. It's a really fun game and I definitely recommend it if you like Math. Competitive Magic: the
Gathering players all have to be very good at Math because of all the statistics required to be good at the game.
