Welcome back, football! The Road to the John Denver Trophy
begins August 24th. Who will hoist it this year?

Welcome in to the Mountain Mommas Famous FFL as we enter our 7th year of
existence. We’re a 10-team league with owners from Washington, Washington,
DC, and West Virginia with all 10 guys with ties to the Mountain State. We’re not
just your typical fantasy football league you see your co-workers in, we’ve got
some different rules here. This is a 1-man Keeper league, ½ PPR scoring, no
Kickers, a different way of determining our draft order (keep reading), and we’re
implementing our first live draft this season.

No one really knows their season outcome at this point but one thing we all do
know is that it all starts on August 24th as nine of us come together (1 on the
phone so we’ll count it as 10) for Draft Night with the end goal being to hoist the
trophy at the end of December. We haven’t had a single owner win the John
Denver Trophy twice so be prepared for some stiff competition this year as this
hopes to be the best year yet.

Don’t get too high and don’t get too low, just enjoy the ride this season.

Good luck!

Mountain Momma’s Famous FFL 2018 Year in Review

By Bryson Butcher:

1. Dillon 2018 Champion
2. Nick 2018 Runner-Up
3. Bryson Third Place
4. Dave Fourth Place

The 2018 season saw Dillon defeat Nick in the Championship Game and
secure his first ever John Denver Trophy behind Tight End Travis Kelce,
and Wide Receivers Mike Evans and Robert Woods. On his way to
winning his first Championship, Dillon defeated the reigning Champion
Bryson in the first round of the playoffs and Nick defeated Dave also in
the first round.

The league introduced a new member, Chris in 2018 as he took over for
Nathan. In his first season, Chris finished as respectable 6-6-1 and was
led by star Running Back Christian McCaffrey.

In 2018 Bryson became the fourth owner to hit the double-digit win
mark and the first owner to do so since 2015, and also finished with the
second-best record in league history (11-1-1), trailing only Nick’s 2015
team that finished 12-1. Bryson’s team was anchored by Running Back
Alvin Kamara and Wide Receiver Davante Adams.

The 2018 season saw the rise of star Quarterback Patrick Mahomes of
the Kansas City Chiefs, who will earn himself a spot in the Fantasy
Football Hall of Fame after accumulating 405 total points (5,097 yards
and 50 TD’s) in his first seasaon. Mahomes will most likely require an
early round pick to secure his service for the 2019 season, unless Eric
chooses to keep him with Ezekiel Elliott’s holdout looming.

6

2018 saw the full season holdout of Running Back Le’Veon Bell, who
was Tyler’s keeper for the season. In his place though arose James
Conner, who finished as an RB1 for the 2018 season and played a key
role for Bryson’s team before being traded mid-season to Dillon for
David Johnson. Unfortunately for Dillon, Conner missed the fantasy
playoffs due to an injury, but nevertheless Dillon still managed to win
the title.
Ryan’s 2018 keeper Kareem Hunt got off to a blazing start, cementing
himself as a true workhorse and a fantasy stud…until he was suspended
and later cut by the Chiefs after an assault. On the bright side for Ryan,
he did secure himself arguably the best Running Back in Fantasy,
Saquon Barkley, via the draft last year, and will rely heavily on him for
the 2019 season.
2018 was a forgettable season for former League Champion Braden,
who just really couldn’t get it going and finished 3-9. Braden’s team
looked promising with star Running Back Melvin Gordon, Wide Receiver
A.J. Green, and Tight End Rob Gronkowski anchoring his lineup, but
unfortunately for Braden, Green missed the majority of the season with
an injury and Gronk looked like a shell of himself and didn’t live up to
his ADP. Braden will look to turn it around in 2019, but with a Melvin
Gordon holdout and possible trade out of Los Angeles looming, Braden
might want to second guess his options.

Draft-Olympics

2019 brings a new and very competitive format to the table in deciding
the Draft Order.
The MMFFFL was original from 2013-2018 as our draft order was
decided by the inverse order from the standings form the year before,
boooorrrrring. So in our competitive nature, we decided to spice things
up a notch and make the offseason more bearable. We chose the
biggest sporting event from each month from December-May and in 2
of them, each owner was responsible for their picks and outcomes but
the other 4 were given out by Vegas Odds from the inverse order of last
year’s standings. The events were as followed:

- NCAA Bowl Season on ESPN
- NFL Playoffs
- Daytona 500
- NCAA March Madness on ESPN
- The Masters
- The Kentucky Derby
Stage wins for Dave and Chris proved important as they had two apiece
leading to a top-3 pick for both owners. However, Eric would have
something to say about that as he went winless in the stages so
consistency was what he rode on the way to a #1 pick in the first ever
Draft-Olympics.
