At Home with Tracy Myers
Bringing People Together
Article Deb Peterson Photography Deb Peterson Styling Kelly Householder-Giuliano
When you dream of your ideal home, what kind of house do you envision? I think I’d love a
small cottage on a beach. For Tracy Myers, it’s an old farm house with wallpaper and lace
curtains, filled with antiques. We both live in homes unlike those dreams, but we live in homes
we love and appreciate, and that make sense in our current lives. Life is like that sometimes.

Tracy’s and Robin’s new home was
the perfect place for people from differ-
ent parts of the community to meet each
other, network, and maybe change the
future of a child. But first, Tracy needed
a little help herself. She feels the same
way about decorating as she does about
throwing parties.
“I learned to ask for help when I
moved here,” Tracy says, “but I didn’t
know anybody.”
She had met Pansy Dimick, a local
decorator, her first week in Mountain
Home, and they discovered that they
had grown up 20 miles from each other
and knew many of the same people. Tra-
cy asked Pansy for help with the house.
“Tracy told me on my first visit to the
house that she and Robin never tire of
neutrals,” Pansy says. “Once we had all
the major pieces in place, it was time to
accessorize with a little color. Tracy’s
eyes lit up when she brought out a re-
tired floral arrangement in poppy red.”
Pansy and Tracy had a new arrange-
ment made for the dining room table,
incorporating that color.
“Tracy enjoyed seeing the rooms come
alive as accessories were added,” Pansy

Tracy and Robin spend as much time
as possible on the spacious upper deck.
They cook out as often as three times a
week. Robin installed a television inside
the lid of a storage bin. The cord runs
underneath the deck. When it’s shut,
it looks like a bin with a flower pot on
it. Open it up, and voila! He can watch
sports on the deck while cooking out
and enjoying a view of the lake. It’s a
perfect example of this couple’s ability
to come up with creative solutions.
For Tracy, who has a lot of nervous en-
ergy, creativity sometimes comes from
her quiet time at home.
“You have to be still,” she says, “and
let things happen.”
Some of those things are starting to
happen. Tracy is slowly mixing different
groups of people at her home, introducing
teachers to the medical community, busi-
ness owners to fundraisers, economic de-
velopment gurus to people in the arts. She
has entertained the Arkansas State Uni-
versity Board of Trustees, the Performing
Arts Council, college cabinet members,
and ASUMH donors, among others.
“I want to network kids into college,”
she says. “When people know each
other in a community, we can help each
other, and then our community is inclu-
sive and thrives. I’m a helper. Robin and
I just want to make sure that any kid
who wants an education can have one.”
Tracy’s home may not be the old farm
house she sees herself in, but when you
visit her, you will feel the gracious, wel-
coming spirit of the woman who em-
bodies that dream. Don’t be surprised
if you leave feeling more connected to
your community.
“Our home is open to anyone who
wants to come see us.”

we are doing it. That is why I am tell-

power to my family and me, and to oth-

Through loss I began searching for an-
swers for how to get through life’s many
challenges. I read several books and ran
across articles written by Martha Beck in
Oprah’s magazine, O. I became interest-
ed in Martha’s story and her career as a
life coach. I knew I wanted to eventually
enroll in her program, but as a single
mom I also knew I needed to wait for
another time in my life.
It took nearly a decade, but early last fall
I enrolled in the Martha Beck life coach-
ing program to become a life coach. The
process of life coaching involves learning
how to dissolve suffering, and it not only
has given me life tools to live my best
life, but also a tool box I can share with
others. If I can make someone feel lighter
with hope, then the life waves that have
hit me, and will likely continue to hit,
will all have been well worth it.
For those of you who are not clear on
what life coaching is all about, I would

36 I marvmag.com I AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2016 had never kayaked before. Heck, let’s
just be honest. Even though I grew up
here, I’ve been in a canoe only one time
in my life. So, yes, I was a little apprehen-
sive, but with encouragement from my
friends, I boarded my kayak with only
minimal trepidation and away we went.
In retrospect, I was totally ill-equipped.
I showed up with my swimsuit and flip
flops. That’s it. Fortunately, my friends
were better prepared—first aid kits,
extra hats, bottles of water, snacks, etc.
Thank goodness! I learned much from
them that I will use in the future.
Long story short—It. Was. Wonder-
ful. I am completely hooked and cannot
wait to go again. It didn’t hurt that we
had glorious weather and the trip from
Spring Creek to Dillard’s Ferry (approx-
imately 4.5 miles) was probably the per-
fect length for my maiden voyage.
While most of the trip I concentrated
on paddling correctly and not making a
fool of myself, the fact of the matter is
that it was a wonderfully calm float. As
a rookie, I really have nothing to com-
pare it to, but Karla had this to say: “It
was such an easy, relaxing float. One or
two areas had some faster-moving wa-
ter, but it was smooth and easy to glide
through. My favorite things about the
Buffalo are the tall cliffs. I love looking
up at them towering over me, especially
when the birds are catching the drafts.
It gives me the feeling of timelessness—
like I’m connected to all the people who
have floated on the river for ages before
me. I feel so serene on this river, one of
the best places on earth.”
Linda agreed with Karla and added
that she especially enjoyed a section of Julee Hopper
bluffs where the reflections of the ripples
on the river danced on the rock face. Owner/Consultant
“Oh, and I saw a ton of snakes!” Karla 870-425-7666
said. “Just kidding! I really didn’t. Just
thought it would be funny to say that.” 848 NE US 62 • Mountain Home

further down river. So while they were
unloading their kayaks, where was I?
Completely turned around on the far
side of the river. I couldn’t figure out
how to get out of the current. I finally
abandoned ship (the water was only
about 3 feet deep), but still I struggled to
get to the other side of the river. I wasn’t
panicked (except I was worried my cell
phone might get wet!). We laughed later
over the fact that they didn’t even real-
ize I was drowning. (Okay, not really.
Just trying to make them feel guilty for
not helping me!)
Anyway, I survived. (Thanks to pho-
tographer/kayaker extraordinaire Kev-
in Pieper for rescuing me. Otherwise I
might still be out there floating some-
where in the Gulf of Mexico!) And I’m
ready to go again. If you’ve never tried
kayaking, don’t deprive yourself of the
opportunity.
Wild Bill’s shuttle driver was there to
pick up our kayaks and gear, and off we
went back to Ozark Outlook Retreat, the
whole way recounting what a wonder-
ful experience the kayak trip had been.
After a quick stop at the grocery store in
Yellville to stock up on “provisions,” we
returned to the lodge. Now we had time
to really explore and fully appreciate all
the amenities of our home for the night.
The only word I can think of to describe
it is WOW.
“Bob and Carol have thought of every-
thing,” Karla said. “A nice place to grill

We invited her to stay for dinner and

1958. Now the resort covers over 400 acres with two miles of river frontage, and has 79 cottages,
a 3200 ft. airstrip, over 70 boats and a massive state-of-the-art dock to hold them all. But the best
reward is the many friends we have made over the years.
