Query Resolution and Corrective Action
Whilst every effort is made to ensure you are given the best possible service ‘first time, every time’, it is essential that contingencies are put in place should things go wrong. DCC have an open book policy with our customers and all complaints are copied back and are used to see where improvements can be made to the service. To facilitate and ensure accountability, it is important to recognise a mechanism for solving problems prior to them becoming disputes. Therefore, a resolution ladder has been established to target any potential queries and also to provide a given time span for their resolution.

Who we are
We are one of the UK’s leading suppliers of uniform clothing and PPE products, supplying many of the country’s largest businesses with all of their uniform requirements. Established in 1999 we are part of a highly successful privately owned £80m turnover group. We are a financially strong business which allows us to hold all of our customers’ stock requirements to mutually agreed levels to ensure we meet their full service and delivery expectations. Our state of the art 72,000 sq ft of warehousing and head office is based in Oldbury, West Midlands and our high quality modern 20 acre factory site is based in Asia.
What we do
From rigorously specified and certified work wear and head to toe PPE clothing, accessories and equipment, to creatively designed corporate wear, the business is at the forefront of the market, supplying many of the country’s largest businesses and brands with all of their uniform requirements – such companies having recognised the numerous strengths that we are able to bring to their businesses in solving all of their uniform needs.
As our business is a truly vertical operation we have a reputation for service, product quality and value. From in-house design and high quality certificated in-house manufacturing to state of the art warehousing and distribution, the business is able to consistently meet its customers’ expectations.
Based in the heart of the West Midlands, the business operates from its capacious purpose built warehousing and office complex from where dedicated customer stocks are held and distributed within 24 hours of receipt of orders.

Head Protection
IDENTIFYING HAZARDS
A safety helmet is required where there is a risk of being injured by falling objects. Bump caps are not a substitute for safety helmets and must not be used to protect the head from falling objects.
IDENTIFYING MATERIALS
Shells are primarily made using UV stabilised high
density polyethylene (HDPE) or ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene). Harnesses are made using low density polyethylene or terylene webbing.
SHELF LIFE
To comply with European Standards, all helmets are marked with the quarter or month and year of manufacture. If helmets are stored in boxes in which they were supplied and do not experience environmental extremes, the
shelf life of a helmet is not limited. However, it is not recommended that a helmet should be in use 5 years after date of manufacture.

Optical class 1
The optical class determines the clarity of the lens. The highest and best optical class is optical class 1. Anything less than that should be avoided. All uvex eyewear is manufactured to optical class 1.

All uvex eyewear has a permanent lens coating that won’t wash off, no matter how many times you clean them. Lens coatings make wearing safety eyewear easier, safer and help prolong the life of the product, saving you money.

The impact strength of the eyewear should be specific to the type of activities being carried out. - Low energy impact - objects moving at 45
meters per second (100 mph) - generally
relates to spectacles
- Medium energy impact - objects moving at
120 meters per second (260 mph) - generally relates to goggles e.g. cutting, grinding, activities with explosive force or pressure; risks of chemical splash.

This is the European standard that personal eye protection must comply with. It applies to all types of hazards as encountered in industrial environments, laboratories, DIY activities etc. which are likely to damage the eye or impair vision.
Lens coatings
Physical work and wearing goggles or close fitting spectacles requires a combination lens coating such as the uvex supravision HC-AF: a high performance anti-mist coating on the inside of the lens, scratch resistant on the outside.

Adjustability
Many uvex frames are adjustable allowing you the wearer to achieve a secure and individual, comfortable fit. The side arms can often be extended to fit behind the ears or allow the lens to be tilted to ensure a good seal around the eyes.

HEARING PROTECTION
The ear is a very delicate part of
the body and some of the damage
that noise can cause is often non- recoverable. The latest figures from HSE show that during 2010/11150 instances
of work related hearing loss where diagnosed. However, as hearing loss is cumulative over a period of years, many individuals will not realise that their hearing is being affected.
To try and reduce the problems from work related hearing loss, the European Physical Agents (Noise) Directive 2003/10/EC came into force in 2006. In simple terms, the Directive requires that noise has to be eliminated and that if this is not possible hearing protection should be available at 80dB, and mustbe worn at 85dB.
JSP supply a full range of hearing protection to meet the needs of industry. To the requirements of to EN352 -1, EN352 -2, or EN352 -3,: 2002 as appropriate.
When selecting hearing protection it is essential to be aware of national laws, regulations, customs and practices. The following points should be considered:

Ear Muffs EN 352-1
Ear-Muffs consist of two ear cups that are filled with sound absorbing foam. Each cup has a soft pad that is eitherfoam or foam and liquid filled. The earcups are held in place by means of a tensioning headband.

Ear-Plugs are inserted into the ear canal to seal the entrance.
Helmet Mounted Ear Defenders
EN 352-3
These ear defenders are specifically designed to be mounted on industrial safety helmets. They are adjustable, so they can be positioned over the ear when required, or ‘parked’ away from the ear at other times.
Performance is assessed by attenuation testing. This requires a wearer to sit in an anechoic chamber and be exposed to various frequencies and decibel levels of noise. From this testing the detail
of howa particular ear protector performs is established. Hearing protection should be selected by comparing this information and the results of a noise survey.
However, typical noise levels are shown in the adjacent table which can give guidance for selection. When selecting hearing protection, the wearer shouldbe aware that, unlike in many forms of PPE, it is possible to have too much protection! The wearer still needs to be able to hear warning sirens and approaching vehicles for instance.

HEARING PROTECTION
SNR [Single Number Rating]
This rating number is used by the European Union and affiliated countries. Tests are conducted at independent testing laboratories, using test frequencies which are slightly different than those used for the NRR rating (USA Standards) . In addition to an overall rating, the SNR further rates protectors in terms of the particular noise environments in which they will be used – H for high-frequency noise environments, M for mid-frequency, and L for low-frequency. Note that the HML designation does not refer to noise level, rather the spectrum of the noise. For example, a protector might be designated with SNR 26, H=32,M=23, L=14.The estimated attenuation changes according to the noise spectrum of the environment in which the protector is to be worn.
An easy way to calculate the effectiveness of hearing protection is to use the SNR data supplied by the manufacturer. The SNR is subtracted from the overall sound level measurement to calculate the sound pressure level at the ear when wearing the hearing protection.
80 Decibels is the level at which hearing protection should be provided, 85 decibels is where hearing protection should be enforced, as an example if an environment had a decibel level of 110 you would require a product with an SNR of 30 (110 Decibels – 30 SNR = 80 Decibels) this a general rule of thumb and won’t always provide an accurate level.

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION REQUIREMENTS
Respiratory protection is required where the wearer may encounter one of the following six forms of hazard in the workplace:-
Dust: Formed by the breaking down of solid materials, normally when materials are altered. For example, sanding, cutting, grinding and brushing. In general the smaller the dust particle the greater the hazard that it presents. Fibres from materials should also be treated as dusts.
Mist: Formed by processes that involve atomisation (such as spraying, cleaning and cutting/grinding using coolants) and consist of tiny liquid droplets rather like steam in a bathroom.
Fume: Formed by the vapourisation of a solid material by the application of intense heat. Extremely fine particulates are formed as the fume cools and condenses. Many processes form fume; such as smelting, pouring metals and many welding applications.
Vapour: A gaseous state formed by evaporation from substances that are normally either solid or liquid at room temperature. Generally released at room temperature (petrol, methalated spirits), many industrial processes, used in degreasing vapourise particularly quickly once heated.
Gas: An air like substance at room temperature. Gases can travel far, very quickly.
Oxygen Deficiency /Enrichment: When an atmosphere is likely to contain less than 19% oxygen (or where conditions may exist in the future to cause this to happen); and in certain circumstances where the
risk may be oxygen enrichment, which can lead to explosion and severe impairment of operatives.
NOTE: Conventional respirators DO NOT protect the wearer from these hazards.
ASSIGNED PROTECTION FACTORS
To determine the required APF it is simply a matter of dividing the measured level of concentration by the Workplace Exposure Limit (WEL) that the local legislation allows. This calculation will give a required protection factor, selection is then just to ensure that the APF for the RPE selected is above the Required.
