MEETING/MASKS
In light of the fact the Country is in Code Red to stop the COVID
Omicron Virus from spreading and to protect our Club Members, the
Board has decided that Masks are to be worn during the Meeting with
a one metre spacing except when eating your Meal and having your
drink.
Presidents Report
Hi one and all.
Well, here we are once again in a continuing time of uncertainty due to Omicron.
The spread and speed with which it is moving highlights the need for us all to be
diligent in how we gather for Meetings and conduct any activities that come our
way. We owe it to ourselves and to our members to limit any potential for the
virus to spread through our Organisation. We need to follow the
guidelines/procedures that have been given by the MOH as we manage Club activities. We also need to
accept that for some Members there will be a reluctance to attend Meetings etc due to the Omicron
surge and its ease of transmission. It is important for all Members to understand, accept and support the
decision of those wishing not to attend at this time.
It was disappointing to have the BBQ opportunity postponed although understandable, however the
positive from the conversations Steve C had with both Mitre 10 and Bunnings is the fact that they are
both keen for us to start the BBQ initiative once the wave of Omicron settles down. Thanks to Steve for
just about having us push the go button. It was good news to be told by Ross that the Speedway is
scheduled to return at Anzac weekend with Teams Champs followed by some normal Saturday outings.
We need to keep our fingers crossed that this becomes reality and not become again affected by Covid.
Thanks to Grant the Spirit of Adventure selection process is starting at the school. Again, we need to keep
fingers crossed that the trip will eventuate this year. Speaking of Grant, I ask that people will be
supportive of his recruitment drive for his team to run the ship next year and be willing to give any
opportunity a go.
It is a bit disappointing that now we finally have a uniform kit, the opportunities to showcase our fine
attire will be limited for a while but it is great to have it. Thanks Steve P. Speaking of finally, it is good to
see that Andy now has his Trust Members finalised and they will start in earnest to get the Trust up and
running.
Good to see the My Health Check caravan having a couple of successful outings much to Warren’s
justified delight. Well done.
That’s about it from me. Look after yourselves and your families in these uncertain times.
Cheers for now.
Phil

We have been asked by Feilding Host to run the mini golf for a week during the
April School holidays, Mon 18th (Easter Monday) until Friday 22nd. It is an
opportunity to get some funds if we can cover the week. As Monday is a holiday
it is an opportunity for those who work Mondays to have a go at the golf. I need a quick response to the
roster as Host will need to try other options if we are unable to fill slots. Reply to me and I will update the
roster as names come in and advise you of gaps etc. Phil

Zone One Report 21/2/22
Our annual Zone One Mini Golf Tournament was held on the 19th of February in Feilding.
We are very fortunate in that the Feilding Host Clubs owns and operates the Mini Golf Course so we could
use it as a private function.
Tee off was at 4.00 pm.
One of the rules of the contest is that the winning club has to organize the next year’s event. It soon
became apparent that this encouraged a certain degree of cheating to avoid being the winner.
This very un-like Lion behavior was solved by mixing up the teams.
It was a beautiful warm summer evening. 28 players took part in the Mini Golf but as many again were
observers of just came along for the fellowship.
The Glob (an affectionate name for the MY Health Check caravan) was also in attendance.
Our team consisted of
• several farmers at front of house ( meet and greet and filling in of two questionnaires),
• Clinical measurements by a nurse and a fifth-year medical student
• Wise counsel by a mature bald-headed GP.
A total of 18 Lion members were seen, Remarkably, despite the average age being in the seventies, all
were in good working order.
Some very interesting data has been collected.
• Ages varied from 60 -80+. 4 did not record their age.
• 8 were males, 10 were females. None were confused as to their gender.
• All had seen their GP within the last 2 years. One could not remember.
• weight varied from 52 – 95 kg. One was recorded as “a lot”
• 10 were retired. Those working were a teacher, a farmer, an engineer, 2 support workers, a
community service worker and a research person.
• BP varied from 110/60 to 164/88
• Cholesterol varied from 3.8 – 7. (ideal level is 5)
• Blood sugars varied from 4.2 -25 ( the latter is a known diabetic The normal range is 3.5 -5.6
• All participants were in either the green or yellow zone in the mental health questionnaire. The
most common symptom in the yellow zone was poor sleep and low energy.
• It was recommended that 4 see their own GP. One for high blood pressure, one for high blood
sugar, one for a high cholesterol and one for anxiety/depression
Everyone was very grateful for their check up and fully supported the project.
After the mini golf we all enjoyed a lovely BBQ provided by Feilding Host.
The overall winner was Chris Bell from Feilding Host. He did admit he was in charge of the score card so
this result could be a bit ‘ dodgy ‘.
My thanks to everyone who helped make it a very successful day and for the wonderful fellowship we all
enjoyed.

Lions International - District 134 Ukraine
Please spare a thought for all the Lions Clubs
throughout the Ukraine, once this Conflict/War is
over I would say that Lions Clubs throughout the
Ukraine will kick into action to support the people
in their community.
Here is a Romanian Lions Club on the border between Romania and the Ukraine delivering
essential items to the Ukrainian refugees crossing the border.
Even in a time of War
Lions are still SERVING
Fellow Lion, You can help.
When a humanitarian crisis of this magnitude strikes, we, as Lions, are ready to help. Right
beside us is LCIF, our global foundation. LCIF is mobilizing funds and awarding grants that will
enable Lions to help provide relief in the area to ensure Lions in countries receiving Ukrainian
refugees will be able to assist them with their immediate needs.
TGIF Thank Grant its Friday
TGIF Friday 11 March – Murray’s Irish Bar
Due to being in Code Red, numbers are limited to a 100 at Murray’s Irish Bar so

the Restaurant

NEW Board 2022 – 2023
Ist VP Grant is assembling his Board for his year as our Club President. If you feel a tap on your
shoulder, no its not a COVID Needle, but a friendly smiling face inviting you to be a Member of
his Board. Please say YES, it’s not an onerous task, its an opportunity for you to help in the
running of our Club. Say YES
Almoners Report
• Clint has been talking to the stay at homes and reports that Ron Peters is alive and well.
• Clint and Arjen have volunteered for lawn mowing duties at Muntz Reserve.
Some of our Members are receiving treatment for Cancer, we wish them all the best in the
journey ahead.
LOOKING AFTER OURSELVES:
o An unescapable fact: we are all getting older, and there will be health issues. We need to
continue to keep an eye on each other, keep in touch with our mates, some of whom may
be struggling with a range of issues.
o Any sniffles: STAY HOME!
Meeting Protocol
It has been reported that many members have difficulty hearing what is going on. They ask their
neighbour “what did he say?” and the Meeting becomes unruly. The Board decided that we will
pursue a sound system and as a matter of Meeting etiquette. All speakers to speak from the
lectern. If members still have difficulty hearing they should say so and may wish to relocate
closer to the lectern. We don’t want anyone missing out on what is being said. W.I.P
DON’T FORGET YOUR MASK AND VACCINE PASS
