HBCU Goals
Promote: Enlighten the community regarding HBCUs as institutions of excellence
with historical and current significance.
Support: Raise $10,000 (Small) $22,000 (medium), $37,000 (large), 42,000 (extra
large) from 2018-2019
TARGET 2 – WOMEN'S
HEALTHCARE AND WELLNESS NUTRITION
Women's Health Care & Wellness: Reach 100-220 (small-medium) women to share
information concerning breast cancer through increased awareness and mammograms
through the AKA Mobile Breast Cancer Screening Unit.
Breast Cancer Awareness & Prevention: Provide 100-220 women with awareness and
educational programs, access to AKA mobile unit, get mammogram screenings, detect
breast cancers, partner with local clinics, host awareness events.
Heart Health: Reach 100-220 women with awareness of heart disease through
community health professionals and engage the community in low impact heart
activities and services and support. Promoting awareness, hosting events, CPR/AED
training/certifications, walking initiatives, chapter steps recorded by AKAfit, wakling with
the Supreme are how the chapter can complete the target programming.
Nutrition for Life: Reach 100-220 women through education, community outreach and
advocacy, in order to raise awareness regarding the importance of incorporating good
nutrition into daily life through awareness, prenatal, childhood, adult and senior
nutrition programs, establishing community/personal gardens.
Care for Caregivers: Reach 10-22 in the community to raise awareness regarding the
impact of caregivers syndrome on the quality of health of caregivers, especially African-
American women, and to increase awareness of resources and support available to
caregives through community awareness activities, workshops, and best practices tips
for reducing emotional and physical health issues.

TARGET 3 – BUILDING ECONOMIC LEGACY –
PERSONAL FINANCE
Personal Financial Planning & Asset Accumulation: The goal is to provide practical
but advanced financial planning information that will increase fiscal awareness and
lead to increased fiscal awareness and lead to increased savings and asset
accumulation in the African American community by engaging African American in
personal financial planning activities, workshops, reporting dollars saved using Pink
AKA App, sorors utilizing AKA savings card, partnering with financial institutions, and
distributing financial planning tool kits. 20-44
Credit Repair and Monitoring: To raise awareness of the impact of credit scores in
personal financial management and overall asset accumulation; to help consumers
understand FICO scores and the importance of reviewing and protecting credit
reports and improving scores. Partnerships with local certified financial institutions,
hosting credit repair workshops and reporting improved FICO scores over a 4-year
period can exercise this target programming. 20-44
Entrepreneuship & Black Businesses: To increase support of black businesses by 5%
while concurrently raising community awareness of strategies that positively impact
African American entrepreneurs an their businesses, thus building wealth in the
African American community by conducting community awareness
workshops/training, tracking money spent with black businesses, patronizing black
owned business, creating black owned direcories, and supporting soror businesses.

Operation AKA Assist: To partner with local and national efforts to raise awareness
regarding homelessness; to supply goods and service homeless individuals and
families. To advocate on behalf of those who are experiencing homelessness by
partnering with homeless shelters, providing goods and services to homeless families
and individuals, conducting advocacy activities, awareness workshops, partnerships
with local schools to identify homeless students. 100-220
SIGNATURE PROGRAM – #CAP
College Admissions Process
The goal is to assist 50-110 high school students with the college
application and enrollment process by walking students through the STEP
process, hosting application boot camps, and college tours hosted for high
school students.

TARGET 4 – THE ARTS
The Arts program is to significantly increase opportunities for youth
engagement and community wide awareness of visual and performing arts
during the Harlem Renaissance and the Blacks Arts Movement, and their
influence on the contemporary African American art and culture.
Salute to the Harlem Renaissance: To celbrate the contributions of African
American artists during the Harlem Renaissance through student research
ad chapter sponsorship of student talent show cases by exposing 20-44
students to the 2 movements and sponsoring talent showcases.
Salute to the Black Arts Movement: To celebrate the contributions of
African American artists during the Black Arts Movement through student
research and chapter sponsorship of student talent show cases by
identifying and celebrating African American artists and contributions of
members to the movement.
TARGET 5– GLOBAL IMPACT
To implement collection and distribution programs that gather usable
items supplied by chapters and community members and send the items
to children and adults in less developed countries through partnerships
with international organizations
Soles 4 Souls - Collect gently used worn shoes and transport to specified
locations (Collect 500 - 1100)
Lions Club International - Participate in eyeglasses initiative designed to
prevent blindness, help restore eyesight, and improve eye health. Collect
50 - 110)
Pillow Cases Project - Use Pillow cases to make dresses for girls and
shirts for boys. (Collect 50-110 dresses, 25 - 55 shirts)
Refugees in America Assistance Program (RAAP) - Focus on Refugees of
color in the US by partnering with organizations engaged in support
activities that assist refugees and their families to integrate into
American life. Assist 10 - 22 refugees with integration into the US, create
resource directories, and awareness workshops.

updates are accurate prior to chapter meeting in the event the roster is due for
a re-print. This is to include: change of name, address, telephone number or

Per ESO Standing Rules: Sorors must forward a copy of their Certificates or
registration for all conferences and trainings to ensure this is accurately tracked.
At your earliest convenience; any Soror who has already registered for NARC is
asked to forward their confirmation.
Chapter meeting attendance: Sorors are encouraged to review the chapter
meeting sign-in sheet prior to departure from the meeting to ensure you are
signed in. Sorors are also encouraged to review the meeting minutes distributed
prior to chapter meetings. This document lists all Sorors in attendance. In the
event of a discrepancy, this will allow you to email me to print a copy of the sign
in sheets for your review.

This newsletter is a vital communication tool to help keep our members
stay informed on the business of the sorority/chapter; encourage
attendance/participation in chapter events and local events of the
community that we serve. Tips for Submission: Try to be clear and concise
in your submissions and use bullets, lists and short sentences and
paragraphs where appropriate. Be sure to answer the five W’s and H (who,
what, where when, why and how) in opening paragraphs of your article or
flyer. If the topic is complex, consider suggesting additional sources or
offer a contact for more information at the end. Cite sources and provide
references to quotations and facts when used.

OPERATION AKA ASSIST
The goal of Operation AKA Assist is to address the plight of the
homeless in our community. To that end, ESO supports the
following entities and programs:
1.Bethesda Mission Women’s Shelter
2.Brethren Housing Association Transitional Living Program
To that end, we ask the you bring to EACH Chapter
Meeting: Soap,Toothpaste, Deodorant, toothbrushes, Mouthwash, pads,
combs, shampoo, body wash, razor blades, socks and women’s

Epsilon Sigma Omega Chapter is pleased to welcome newly reactivated or transferred Sorors!
Soror Dr. Ashley A. Adams, is a big sister, seasoned higher
education professional, and founder of Schoolin Life, a weekly
podcast, blog, lifestyle brand and 1:1 career development
mentoring for women. She has worked in higher education for
over 10 years and in her current role, supervises a team of
student affairs professionals that provide career counseling,
student conduct and advocacy, mental health, student clubs and
organizations, student leadership programming support to over
20,000 students through Penn State’s World Campus. When
she’s not supporting Penn State students, Soror Ashley leads a
different “classroom” through her podcast and lifestyle brand,
Schoolin Life. Schoolin Life exists to bring women together
through thoughtful, impactful and affirming conversations
conversations, with the authentic mission of helping women
“School Life” a little better. Soror Ashley is from East St. Louis, IL
and in her free time enjoys traveling, cooking for friends and
liking Beyonce’s pictures on Instagram.
Soror Chastity Johnson, is originally from Rochester, NY and
attended college in Buffalo, NY where she was initiated into the
undergraduate chapter, Gamma Iota of Alpha Kappa Alpha,
Sorority, Incorporated®. Soror Chastity is a student affairs
professional, currently working at The Pennsylvania State University
in State College, PA. Soror Chastity holds a Bachelor’s in Sociology,
and a Masters in Higher Education & Student Affairs Administration.
Soror Chastity’s commitment to higher education surrounds her passion for providing
underprivileged students access to higher education. Soror Chastity also has a passion
and commitment to servicing those in need and since relocating to Pennsylvania has been
involved with Habitat for Humanity, Bethesda Mission, Prairie Fire Farms Horse Rescue,
Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Grace House Soup Kitchen, Ronald McDonald House,
and Hershey Gardens.
Soror Stacey Roberts Stroud, is a native Philadelphian and relocated
to Carlisle, PA in August 2019. She attended Slippery Rock University
as a scholar-athlete earning her BS in Information Systems with a
minor in Accounting and later received her MBA from Eastern
University. Upon graduation from Slippery Rock, she married George
Stroud (member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.) and relocated to
Pittsburgh. On November 14, 1999 she was initiated into the Alpha
Alpha Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc where she has
served on various committees and was also as Epistoleus. In 2003,
Soror Stacey and George relocated to Philadelphia and after their three
children were born she became active with Jack and Jill of America Inc.
In August of 2019, Soror Stacey and her family relocated to Carlisle, PA
and the family was warmly welcomed by Sorors Nichole Purcell and
Chavonne Nelson. Soror Stacey is a Sr. Project Manager, Carlisle Victory
Circle Board Member, West Oak Lane Charter School Executive
Leadership Committee member, and Fundraising Tri-Chair and Tech
Committee for Jack and Jill of America, Montgomery County Chapter.
She enjoys spending time at her boys' travel baseball tournaments,
daughter's dance recitals and traveling.
Soror Brandi Jennings, is a native of Hempstead, New York and comes
from a very loving and active family that consists of 8 blood sisters, 7
blood brothers and over 52 nieces and nephews (and counting). She
graduated from Hempstead High School and later attended Central
State University in Wilberforce, Ohio until its closing. Soror Brandi
transferred to Bowie State University where she earned a Bachelor of
Science in Business Administration, as well as a Master of Public
Administration Degree. In the spring of 1995, "Eta" (H) Chapter blessed
the Disappearing Acts with the opportunity to become ladies of Alpha
Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® and Soror Brandi served
as Tamiochus and Anti-Basileus. Soror Brandi was a Boule
member until joining the fabulous Epsilon Sigma Omega
Chapter in Harrisburg,Pennsylvania. This year, Soror Brandi
and her line sisters will celebrate their 25th Anniversary and join
the ranks of the shimmering Silver Stars.
Soror Brandi has been married for over 20 years to Demetrius
Jennings and they have two really kind and nice daughters,
Kennedy and Daphne. They also have two loving and protective fur babies named Bandits and
Dallas. Soror Brandi is a Christian and enjoys traveling, gardening and spending time with
friends and family. She teaches children’s church at Stillmeadow Nazarene Church in York on
Sundays and during the week, teaches MDS (multiple disabilities support) with The School
District of City of York. While working at The School District of the City of York, Soror Brandi
obtained a Master of Science in Education degree with ELL certification. Education and
teaching students are important to her because it allows her opportunity to educate the entire
family and provide resources to grow, develop and give back to their community.
Soror TaWonda Williams, was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, the
only girl and eldest child of three siblings. She graduated from
Kentucky State University with a B.A. degree in English, and a master’s
degree in Public Administration from the University of Pittsburgh,
Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA). While
matriculating at GSPIA, she concentrated on policy analysis and
financial management. During her college years, she excelled
academically while participating in extracurricular activities and received several honors.
Most notably, memberships in the NAACP Youth and Young Adult Chapters and in the Beta
Zeta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated fashioned her disposition.
Soror TaWonda relocated to Harrisburg in 1989 and has spent the bulk of her career in
Pennsylvania’s Department of Human Services, Office of Children, Youth and Families in
various capacities. She is currently Chief of the Division of Fiscal Policy in the Bureau of
Budget and Fiscal Support. Soror TaWonda is responsible for managing the policy
development, implementation and technical assistance for child welfare funding streams.
Even though this work has been rewarding, she is very excited about the next chapter in her
career. Soror TaWonda was recently offered an opportunity to move to Pennsylvania’s
Department of Health. Beginning in March 2020, she will head a newly created Division in
the Bureau of Family Health as a Public Health Program Manager.
Soror TaWonda has been active in the Harrisburg community in various organizations,
such as Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, the Greater Harrisburg Area Chapter of Jack
and Jill of America, Incorporated and Epsilon Sigma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Incorporated. She is married and has one daughter. In her spare time, she enjoys
her dog Petey and loves writing, reading, supporting all forms of the Arts and fantasizing
about interior design and decorating.
Soror Linda Matthews, was born on March 13 and is the younger
of two children. Soror Linda holds her BA in Social Psychology
(Lincoln University); MSS, with a concentration in Program Planning
and Administration (Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work
and Social Research); and EdD in Educational Leadership
Wilmington University). Soror Linda’s professional career spans
over 40 years in higher education administration, corrections,
public housing, and social service. Soror Linda is currently semi-
retired while she and her brother are caring for their 95-year-old
mother. She is celebrating 40 years of marriage this year and is the
mother of four children. Soror Linda was initiated in the Epsilon
Sigma Omega chapter in 1987. Some of Soror Linda’s favorite
things to do include, mentoring young girls, listening to oldies,
reading little known black history facts, and she particularly enjoys
spending time with her family. Soror Linda often shared this
saying with her former students: “Define yourself… so that others
don’t do that for you.” It is a mantra she exudes –and holds dear.
Soror Gwendolyn (Gwen) Hoover, hails from New Orleans,
Louisiana. She graduated from Denison University in Granville,
Ohio where she was initiated by the Alpha Sigma Omega chapter
of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, as there was no undergraduate
chapter at Denison University. She attended Widener University
School of Law (currently Commonwealth Law School) in
Harrisburg, PA where she met Soror Dianne Nichols. Soror
Dianne graciously served as a mentor during Soror Gwen’s law
school tenure, assisting her in evaluating employment options.
Soror Gwen graduated from Widener in 1992 and began her 24-
year careeras a civilian attorney with the Department of Defense, being stationed in PA
and Ohio. She left the DoD in 2016 to become an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) with the
Social Security Administration’s Office of Hearings Operations in Jackson, Mississippi. She
returned to Central PA in 2019 to assume the position of Chief ALJ/Judge in the Harrisburg
Hearing Office.
Soror Gwen has two incredibly creative daughters, one brilliant granddaughter, and one
“smarter than your average” rescued dog. She is a die-hard New Orleans Saints fan, and
regularly attends games. She also is a Bourbon aficionado and has an extensive
Bourbon/Whiskey collection. Soror Gwen also loves to travel, considers herself a foodie,
and cannot go a day without listening (and singing) some sweet, soul music. Soror Gwen’s
community commitments include volunteering at local food banks, mentoring youth, and
mentoring law students.

Protocol is the responsibility of all members of Alpha Kappa
Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Adherence to protocol enhances
the Sorority’s operations as well as aids in the creation of a more
sisterly environment. Furthermore, the image of the Sorority in
the larger community is greatly enhanced if each member
demonstrates a command of protocol.
A Chapter Member maintains proper decorum in business meetings.
Dresses appropriately in business attire.
Arrives before the official start time.~Silences all electronic communication
devices.
Speaks only when recognized by the presiding officer.
Projects voice or moves to a microphone when speaking so everyone can
hear.
Addresses the presiding officer before speaking.
(Example: Madam Basileus, I move that...)
Keeps remarks brief and concise.~Accepts the decision of the majority.
Avoids individual conversations during meetings.

March Hodegos Report
March, the third month of the year is known at the first month of
Spring! This is our first glimpse of a new season. Coming out of the
dark days of winter, March offers greater sunlight and improved
abundance. As daffodils begin to bloom, they symbolize a new
beginning and optimism. We begin to enjoy longer days, sounds of
birds chirping and the excitement that summer is on the horizon!
March is also the month we enjoy SPRING BREAK, and many enjoy
vacation during this time. (We all know vacation means stress free, so
March can also be synonymous with Happiness!)
Whether you are planting flowers, enjoying SPRING
BREAK, Or enjoying lighter & longer days...
March is the time to BLOOM!
Spring Forward’ and Share Some Sunshine... Did you know? Those born in
March tend to be affectionate, creative, and have a good since of humor.
